Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

The Campaign has received confirmation from the Paddington Green Police Station, Sergent Holyoke that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is not being brought to Royal Lancaster Hotel on 23rd October 2005. The Police confirmed that the Anand Karaj will take place at Shepards Bush Gurdwara.

The Sangat thanks everyone for their help to get this resolve. We managed to educate & stop the need to protest on the day. The Police have also confirmed that the Hotel will be issuing an Official Statement shortly.

Sikh Community pressure rearranges Sikh Wedding from London Hotel to Gurdwara

A Sikh wedding (Anand Karaj) was planned to take place on the 23rd October 2005 at Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

A number of local members of the Sikh community expressed their concerns to the families (from Essex and Hampshire) regarding the offensive act of taking Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to hotels, which goes against the hukamnama from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sikh principles.

The resolve of re-arranging the Anand Karaj to a Gurdwara was offered to the family; the availability of Gurdwaras in Essex as well as Shepards Bush Gurdwara (10 minutes away from the hotel) was confirmed.

The families did not agree to the suggestion and were determined to continue with the Anand Karaj at the hotel. The family were also wrongly advised by a Sikh priest, from Gillingham, Kent, that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji could be kept overnight at the Royal Lancaster Hotel so that the wedding arrangements would not be disrupted. This suggestion was put forward to the Hotel Management & Security.

Hundreds of individuals decided to take it on themselves to ring and email the Royal Lancaster Hotel to educate them on the hukamnama and Sikh principles. The Sangat explained that hotels are not an appropriate environment for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Sikhs across the world would be deeply offended.

After three days of intense discussions with the venue director, Craig Robertson, and the wedding caterers, the board of the Royal Lancaster Hotel decided that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji should not be allowed onto the premises. They realised that this was no ordinary issue and was very distressing for the Sikh Community.

The Anand Karaj has now been re-arranged to Shepherds Bush Gurdwara. The Sangat wish to thank all that helped to resolve this issue and ask for guidance from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
