He confirmed everything was fine at the moment, and that youth at already reached there.

Black youth walked past the Gurudwara, and the Gaini said they didnt show any interest in it.

PLEASE DO NOT TRAVEL TO THESE AREAS FOR THE TIME BEING

There has been rioting in the Lozells area of Birmingham tonight by black youths after tension rose in Birmingham over the alleged rape of a black girl by a gang of 'Asian' men in Perry Barr. One man in his twenties of African Caribbean origin has been stabbed dead. Massive Sikh population in this area and Soho Road is close to the trouble and there are a couple of Gurdwara's in the general area.

Take care all Birmingham people - be careful and stay safe.

Plea for calm after city clashes

Burnt car

The disturbances have been linked to tensions in the past week

Police and community leaders in Birmingham have appealed for calm after a man was stabbed to death in disturbances in the Lozells area.

Three other people were stabbed, and a police officer was hit in the leg with a ball bearing fired from a gun.

The violence on Saturday is thought to have involved rival groups of youths.

It was reportedly linked to tensions in the past week over the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old-girl although no offence has been reported.

Extra police are on duty in the area and there is damage on a number of streets.

The disturbances broke out after a public meeting at the New Testament Church of God over the alleged assault.

Two senior police officers, the Labour MP for Perry Barr, Khalid Mahmood, and church leaders had addressed the meeting.

Police say the violence was not a reaction to the meeting.

Extremist elements

Mr Mahmood said there appeared to be a link between the violence and the alleged assault but the "vast majority" of people who attended the meeting were satisfied with explanations given by himself and police.

I think the small number of people who were involved were predominantly from outside

Residents' fear at violence

The MP said the majority of the community was close.

"I think the small number of people who were involved were predominantly from outside," he said.

"Today is going to be an important day. We need to make sure no other people come in from the outside to escalate this tension."

Bishop Joe Aldred from the Council of Black Led-Churches appealed for calm in the area.

"There's a clear condemnation from me and others in this community of the violence that's happened," he added.

He said "extremist elements" in the community seemed intent on using the incident "for their own criminal aims".

He told BBC Radio Five Live there were also underlying community tensions.

"At the root of it are primarily young people, but not just young people, from the African and Caribbean community.

"Their anger seemed to be directed in the first place at elements of the Asian community because they feel that it's Asian men who are the butt of the allegations here."

Arrests

The confrontation between rioters and police began on Saturday evening and saw cars burned, property damaged, missiles thrown and groups of people wearing masks, or covering their faces with hoods.

2130: Reports of a man being shot and another man being stabbed at the Uplands pub in Oxhill Road

Assistant Chief Constable David Shaw denounced the violence.

"I can't really begin to describe how our sense of sorrow that we have lost someone from our community, that innocent people in the area have been attacked and injured, and that one of our colleagues who was out there trying to protect the public has been shot," he said.

"Over many years I've worked very hard to make this part of Birmingham a better and better place to live.

"We haven't been affected by some of the tensions that other parts of the country have seen and we are in no sense complacent when we say that."

Police say its investigation into the alleged sexual assault has been held back because no official complaint has been made.

A police spokeswoman said the dead person - a black man in his 20s - would not be named until next of kin had been informed. A number of arrests have been made.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said at least 12 people had been taken to the City Hospital.

I been reading on other forums that some blacks have been looking for an excuse have a go at asians because of their jealousy and hatered for their success in business so they made up those allegations and openly began to be racist towards all asians leading to the riots.

Anyone know if any sikhs or gurdwara sahib was attacked?

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
