Abortion/unprotected Sex

Recommended Posts

OK, so I found a few guidelines on these issues for those who are in doubt, like myself. The question I'd like to ask is, in my professional manner, is it a sin for me to give to others contraception medication? :

Finally there is this quote from the following website:

http://www.nsouk.co.uk/education_item.asp?EducationID=13

Marriage, sex, contraception, abortion, divorce, euthanasia

"Marriage is regarded very highly in the Sikh faith. All Sikh Gurus were married (except one who died at a very young age). Sikhs are taught that sex should be enjoyed within marriage and any acts before marriage or outside marriage is disapprove. It is up to the couple to decide to use contraception or the method of it, there is no religious reasons for or against it. Abortion is not encouraged, but is allowed in certain circumstances such as in case of a rape or the ill health of the mother. Marriage is a life long commitment and divorce is discouraged. Couples are encouraged to look to the needs of their partner. However, divorce is allowed if there is an irrevocable break down of marriage.

Euthanasia (mercy Killing) is not allowed. Sikhism teaches that life and death are in God’s hand, and human beings should not take it upon themselves to end life. However, in case of prolonging life by artificial means and putting a person through unnecessary suffering, the close relatives have the right to decide."

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

Sorry for going slightly out of topic, but i found these quotes in Gurbani which sort of relate to the topic:

maath pithaa sa(n)jog oupaaeae rakath bi(n)dh mil pi(n)dd karae ||

Through the union of mother and father, the fetus is formed. The egg and sperm join together to make the body.

Page 1013 in Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

jal kee bheeth pavan kaa thha(n)bhaa rakath bu(n)dh kaa gaaraa ||

The body is a wall of water, supported by the pillars of air; the egg and sperm are the mortar.

Page 659 in Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

paanee mailaa maattee goree ||

The water of the sperm is cloudy, and the egg of the ovary is crimson.

In My view

Sex is allowed number of times, its all up to you that how much time you want to do it ,If we see that we are men and a sikh and think that we should not do,then it may (or may not) hurt the feeling of ur wifeand i think that its nowere mention that it is not allowed or is allowed x number of times, but it is said that it should onluy be in the boundries of marriage and not outside marrige, and as per my view we shouuld also take care of the feelings of ourself and our wife,as per my view we are ordered to l;ive a family life which should include naam simran ,paath and remembering of., gods name, but this dosent mean that we should not have sex, life is just a Stage, its a play, everything is controlled by him,its true and every one will agree ,but we are here and to l;ead a family life so according to me Sex is allowed any number of times ,And Contraception is also allowed as if some one doesnt need a child then they can use it

Well, 14 is around the age when youths start to think about these kinds of things and ask these kinds of questions. Better to share information in this sort of sangat rather than with ones school peers, imho.

let me put in another way....TO ALL GUYS ON THIS FORUM: would you be okay if your little sister was talking about this sort of stuff? Would YOU feel comfortable if your 12 year old sister was talking about the quote above? Would your parents approve of young children reading about this sort of stuff?

My 12 year old nieces are very sensible and have sex education as part of the curiculumn in school.

Infact they are able to talk about such matters in a more mature manner then some of the KAAM obsessed people on this forum!!!

I would say do not dismiss such topics, so lng as they are not trivialised and lampooned and handled in a sensible maaner they can be discussed.

    • Definitely the Guru Sahibs would be a heavier Scriptures to handle. Dasam Granth is more towards Bir Rass, Guru Gobind Singh showed his Greatness (of course, they would never say this) by separating his own Baania.  And the BIGGEST test of all?? Do we try and read Dasam Granth, Understand n show respect like we do to SGGS? Or... Do we QUESTION it? Guru Gobind Singh Ji is testing us.
    • My wife will be going for an MRI scan next week but her Kara won’t physically come off.  Is there any way the mri scan can be done with the Kara still on?  The alternative is we will have to try to saw it off before the scan.
    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
