Is it possible for the Sikh Fed to also promote 400 Years of Guroo Arjan Dev Jee's Shaheedi?!

It's an amazing seva to raise awareness about '84 but we also need to raise awareness about Guroo Saahibs Shaheedi.

No cannot be doing that or even be remembering the shaheed of the wadha gallughara.

Ask a youngster these days about the biggest violent singular attack in Sikh history and they will claim bluestar. They know nothing about the biggest hollacaust the world has ever seen the Wadha Gallughara of 1762.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji's Shaheedi will definitely be covered in the FREEDOM RALLY in Trafalgar Square on Sunday 4 June and Kurtas you may be pleasantly surprised if you attend - the Wadha Gallughara may also be mentioned - however 1984 will be the main focus.

Flag burning in Trafalgar Square will be a COMPLETE no no . . .

There's a rumour that one of the speakers may be Monty Panesar!

He has been asked to speak about what 1984 means to him

Ken Livingstone is also expected to make an appearance:

Should Guru Arjan Dev Ji's shaheedi be the main focus ?

I have attended previous protests / rememberance events and to be honest with you get a bit peed off when complete idiots (mostly youngsters) shout abuse and vulgar words whilst paath is being recited. The stewards stand back and do nothing. It is time these young idiots were taught to curb their vulgar language and respect the environment whilst Gurbani is being recited.

I doubt the Wadha Gallughara will be mentioned. It rarely gets a mention. Maybe you could give it a mention on your flyers so some of these youngsters can learn how in the face of the biggest holacaust the world has ever witnessed the Sikh quam rose to military power and helped destroy the backbone of the mughal empire and put a stop to Abdalis annual looting raids.

lol

this is why people take da p*** outta sikhs making em out to be jokaz. Singhs nowadays cant even sort out the internal threats, never mind the external ones. We seem to be here there and everywhere and no one seems to be winning battles they are trying to face. Instead, we all splitting to up. Ya need ekta, unity - imagine AKJ, AKJi, GNNSJ, Nihangs, Taksaal, Nanaksaris etc all getting together to organise the rally?

WE wont get Khalistan like this. Yeh, i'll be at the rally IN REMEMBERANCE for my brothers, my sisters, my mothers and fathers who have been shaheed since times began and for a nice stroll through my home city... thats my reason for going. For others, their reasons will be to spit on dolls of indira gandhi, burn some flags, make some noise, check out "da talent", link up with some mates and the rest.

There are the rare few who do have a passion for Khalistan, deep down. And there are those who will be there for those who were martyred in '84.

Basically ONE voice is clearer to hear than hundreds of little ones. We are currently hundreds of little ones...

sorry if my opinion offends any of u.

10-point plan for Gurdwaras for Sunday 4 June 2006

1. Please make arrangements in the next two to three weeks, by around the middle of May, to show to the Sangat the 25-minute preview of the 'Sikhs in the Square' DVD. This will generate considerable interest in what is planned for 4 June.

2. Following the preview of the DVD please organise an appeal from the Sangat for the Sikhs in the Square event and future projects as part of Campaign 84. Alternatively, the Gurdwara Management Committee may itself wish to make a donation on behalf of the Sangat.

3. Speak to your local contact point or 'distributor' (see overleaf) to ensure the 2-hour DVDs are available at the Gurdwara for purchase by members of the Sangat.

4. Put up the posters for the 4 June event on the Gurdwara notice boards. More posters and postcards will be available for distribution to the Sangat. Around two weeks before the event a 'programme' for the 4 June combined with a fold-away A3 poster to mark the 400th anniversary of the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji and dedicated to our Shaheeds will also be made available. The 'programmes' should be targeted at those that will definitely be attending the 4 June event.

5. Make regular (weekly and then daily) announcements from the stage at the Gurdwara about the 4 June event.

6. Encourage families and young people in particular to attend the event in Trafalgar Square as this will be an educational experience.

7. If the Gurdwara operates a Panjabi school it should encourage as many youngsters as possible to attend with their parents and teachers at the school. This event should be seen as an annual 'field' trip as there will be many learning opportunities with the activities planned by Young Sikhs (UK) for Trafalgar Square. Therefore, where Gurdwaras have Panjabi school on Sunday, youngsters and teachers should be given the time off to attend this 'field' trip.

8. Display the poster via PowerPoint and plasma screens at Gurdwaras, where this is possible.

9. Arrange sufficient transportation from the Gurdwara for the Sadh Sangat to attend the event on 4 June. The mini-raIly in Hyde Park starts at around 11:30am. Those using the M1 need to be aware that there will be road works so they must leave early to allow more time to get to London. In some towns the coaches only leave after the bhog of the Akand Paath Sahib at around 10am, where this is the case it would be advisable to try and have the bhog of the Akand Paath Sahib some 30 minutes or one hour earlier if at all possible.

10. We would like to see as many banners and placards as possible, therefore it is suggested that each coach organised by the Gurdwara should try and bring two banners (one possibly with the Gurdwaras name) and 10 placards. Each minibus should try and bring one banner and 5 placards.

The 10-point plan for Gurdwaras for Sunday 4 June 2006 has been sent to around 100 of the largest Gurdwaras in the UK. In the next few weeks please ask your local Gurdwara about their plans.

See below for 8 suggested wordings for banners/placards. 7 more to follow.

It would be good if others could be suggested.
