Please do add your input, if we even try to understand one akhar from this shabad, I think we've made a huge step.

pehilaa pooth pishhairee maaee ||

First, the son was born, and then, his mother.

ermmmmmm im guessing its either

The son being born first is in backward order.

We're not the architects of destiny. Sometimes we expect things to happen in a certain sequence but only Vaheguru has the ability to change destiny, not mere mortals.

Or spiritual enlightenment is not associated with age. We have to look at the bigger picture and not just limit ourselves to the context of this one life and spiritual progression here and now. For instance a 4yr old child, as a result of bhagti in his past lives and higher avastha could be closer to God than his mother who has not done any bhagti in her past lives.

This is what I think it means. Like you could touch the flame of a candle and feel its coldness (ie you don't burn yourself). It's like a way of showing the Lord's ultimate power.

haha, we all have our interpretations, but true gyaan comes from simran and not some internet forum.

Waheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa

Waheguroo Ji Ki Fateh

Aasaa

aassa basically translates to hope

First, the son was born, and then, his mother

son translates to god, god hismelf was born. (well he wasnt, he was just formed somehow someway). this world is known as dharti maa, or in india "bharat maa" sadh di hune si. the line can be translated to god came first, then the world. some people back in the day once thought the world came first, and from the world god came...load of crap yes.

The guru falls at the feet of the disciple

guru can mean god in this case. but my interpreatation of this is maharaj falls at the feet of the true sikh who is gurmukh.

Listen to this wonderful thing, O Siblings of Destiny!

Maharaj says listen to this beautiful shabad

Thats true to an extent, you have to define gyaan, there's aatmic gyaan and then there is gyaan/knowledge. You can only gain aatmic gyaan with alot of kamaaee, which only rare people attain, but I feel you can gain gyaan from views of gurmukhs/gursikhs on gurbani, which is gyaan or knowledge of guru's baani, because most of us don't have a clue of what Guru Sahib is saying, but we always try to put in our two cents, I don't think we should bash internet forums, because there are some very knowledgable gursikhs on this board and on others alike.

The punjabi translation tries to give a sense of what the shabd means, but there are countless definitions, and there's never a wrong answer.

Actually, Khalsa jee,

The last line of the explaination of The Shabad in Punjabi by Prof Sahib Singh JI, tell su it's not about having the understanding of that SHABAD, but of that 'halat', and starts simran-ing, THAT will give the understanding of everything and free you from maya.

THe English translation is off here
