The Shaheed are particularly pleased with the lighting of a Jot and burning of incense

Can you tell me where I can find out more info on this, where did you get this knowledge? On Jots and Shaheed Singhs, I do feel a great energy when I light a jot, I am almost mesmerised by it.

There is maryada to follow with lighting Jot, not somehting to mess around with. Shaheed Singh's can also get angry if marayda of even Jot is not followed correctly.

waheguru ji this is correct.....that's why mahapurkh's doesn't prefer "jot" to be lightened at home unless it's a house of very high state gurmukh.....because jisde naam di jot lagdi hai, he has to visit the house at least once a day and we, ignorant people doesn't have that kind of respectful and spiritual environment (tv going on whole day with movies, daily soaps, vulgar songs etc)....we just do it as a formality on daily routine....which is not right.......

and just a point....when there is sehaj path going on or we are doing path and the smell in the environment is not good, it's better to light up some agarbatti or perfume or air freshener....just to get rid of bad odour.......

on Singh shaheeds........once Dhan Dhan Baba Nand Singh ji was residing at the border of some village (don't remember the name).....small muslim raje /lootere used to loot the villages........the sangat came to baba ji and did benti that they have come to know that their village will be looted next morning.....please do something.....Baba ji said Guru ji bhala karange.........then villagers left........that night baba ji did ardas to dasve paatshah.........Guru sahib came himself and gupt faujaan wearing while colour bana.....Guru Sahib and baba ji were together at Baba ji's place and in the morning Baba ji saw shasterdhari Gupt fauja on the paharhi and the looters did come but backed away when they saw armed hundreds of armed men on the top of the paharhi that they had to cross to attack the village...........

waheguru ji .....one person not a very high spiritual being, but just a common sikh, told me once that we should not do ninda of any mahapursh or gursikh....because if there are 100 gurmukh's...99 fake and one real.....ik sache gurmukh, sant di kiti ninda ne sare kite karaye te paani pher dena.....and we'll be back to zero........so....if we don't know anything....we should not point out on them.........because of our lack of spirituality..........we should play safe.......

waheguru ji I heard the same thing from Giani Thakur Singh ji, if you want to know more....listen to his kathas...especially Sukhmani Sahib katha........which can be downloaded from any sikh site......

As far as I have seen (we do this at our house to), it is lighted in the room that we do our nitnem in, with agarbatti. Usually in the evenings during rehraas sahib. Most people don't particularly light it in memory of shaheed singhs (I don't think), it is just done in remembrance of the Lord as the "jot or God". I have also read in other places that even during the Guru's times it was lighted in evenings during rehraas and sikhs were told to keep a sehaj paath going aswell.

""""that's why mahapurkh's doesn't prefer "jot" to be lightened at home"""

Most mahapurshes I have met have always encouraged lighting of the jot, I have never heard what you are saying before.

Do you know in which in particular katha Gyani ji talks about jot lighting?

OT but I completely agree. Sometimes we develop a herd mentality and start laying into someone just because everyone else is doing nindya, etc. It's tough to curb this habit but as normal folk we really do have no idea what the heck is going on behind closed doors. So best to keep it zipped and keep your own house in order. That's what I'm beginning to realise anyway. :biggrin2:

    • the whole 'your husband/wife is chosen for you'/sanjog thing is real, it's just that a lot of people end up marrying the wrong person. they did not end up with the person that was meant for them. my friend, you should marry someone who you feel a connection with and love. there are millions of sikh girls, i'm sure you can find someone who aligns with your sensibilities and who you can truthfully say that you love. sikhi does not say anything against love marriages. you can also be in a loveless arranged marriage which is a safe option b/c both families are more inclined to keep the union intact. i was one of those people who was like meh, i guess i'll just get arranged to some sikh. well i finally started dating for the first time this year and i'm getting married to someone that i love and cannot even imagine leaving. i think it's better to have lost & lost than never loved at all. unfortunately, a lot of people confuse love w/ looks & lust. a lot of men go for the fittest girl they can find and think they won the jackpot or something. in reality, your partner should be like an extremely loved best friend. there's a reason why it's a fact that the most stable and long-lasting relationships started as friendships.  i also think a lot of women are petty and divorce over small reasons, but there's other terrible things like high cheating rates as well. that's why the divorce rate in the west is high. be careful out there.
    • andrew tate praises sikhi too & likes sikhs. his brother also donated to sikh families iirc. they just like any "alpha" religion and tbh islam is the most "alpha" in their eyes. islam is very good at promoting that image. but imo a real alpha man doesn't command respect by beating up his wive(s) or forcing them to wear a burqa. a real man will have his woman listen to him w/o raising a hand or his voice, and command respect by being respectful. he leads by example and integrity. that's true masculinity. you get the idea. + yes, it's definitely true that islam is growing rapidly and making massive inroads. strength in numbers + belief will do that. but rlly it's just because of the birth rate. a lot of them are muslim b/c it's their "identity" just like how a lot of young sikhs will say they're "culturally sikh" or whatever. there just aren't billions of sikhs who lambast their identity everywhere and have strict and linear rules like in islam. besides, the reality is that islam and its followers are some of the most morally bankrupt. you can see all the weird trans rules in iran, bacche baazi in afghanistan, visiting brothels, watching p*rn, p*dophilia what goes on behind the scenes in countries like uae & qatar, etc, and come to your conclusions. you can google all the stats yourself and see which countries do the most of these ^.
    • stop associating with hinduism, that's the absolutely worst thing you can do as a sikh. not sure if you noticed but the entire world looks down upon and spits at india & hindus, literally no one respects them and considers them weak and cowardly. literally 1+ billion of them but not perceived as a strong religion commandeering respect.
    • you wrote a whole lot but told us nothing. what exactly did you do wrong to make you feel this way?
