The thing is that hindu kings such as krishan, vishnu, inder, etc. were womanizers so to put Guru Ji on same level, the writers wrote Guru Ji had multiple wives. Another reason was because people wanted to have multiple wives so they wrote Guru Ji did it so no one Qs them. Their point that if Guru Ji did it, they can do it too. Most recent exmple is Jathaydaar of Takht Patna Sahib.

taken from sikhawareness.com.

Here are the references to suggest sri guru gobind singh ji had more than one wife, people who think otherwise please post your credible sikh ethahisik source instead of your "personal mindset of sikhi". ie- I don't agree with this, therefore Guruji definately never did it'!

refs used for the below:

Kahn Singh Nabha's 'Mahan Kosh'

Giani Ishar Singh Nara's 'Safarnama te Zafarnama'

Dr. Ganda Singh 'Hukamnamae'

Parvinder Kaur 'Kar Sewa: Historical Gurdwaras'

1) Kahn Singh Nabha (a Singh Sabhia) has three entries, for each of Guru Gobind Singh ji's wives.

2) There is historical evidence for each wife's existence such as a smadhi for Mata Jeeto, now called Gurdwara Agampur at Sri Anandpur Sahib (she is recorded to have died while Guruji was there). She was cremated by Guru ji himself.

3) Mata Sundri was the mother of Baba Ajit Singh ji. The haveli where she lived and died in Delhi is recorded in Mahan Kosh is now Gurdwara Mata Sundri ji in Delhi.

4) According to the 'Kar Sewa' and 'Hukamname' texts, both Mata Sahib Kaur and Mata Sundri issued hukamname to the Khalsa after Guruji from the haveli in Delhi.

5) Nabha's kosh records Mata Sundri as being the mother of three of the Sahibzaday, Baba Jujhar Singh ji, Baba Fateh Singh ji and Baba Joravar Singh ji.

6) Mata Sahib Kaur's samadhi is near Sri Guru Harkirshan's.

7)Sant Gurbachan SIngh Bhindranvale's Gurmat Rahit Maryada: he says that Guru Harigobind had three wives, Guru Gobind SIngh had three wives and Guru Hari Rai had eight wives

8) Interesting to note that the Damdami Taksal also consider the concept of multiple wives amongst the Sodhibans Sikh Gurus to be true...

from: http://www.damdamitaksal.com/his_gurus.htm

Satguru Hargobind Sahib Jee (Sodh lineage) wives: Mata Damodari Jee, Mata Nanaki Jee, Mata Marvahi Jee

Satgur Har Rai Sahib Jee (Sodh lineage) wives: Mata Krishan Kaur Jee, Mata Chand Kaur Jee, Mata Ram Kaur Jee, Mata Kaut Kalyani Jee, Mata Thoki Jee, Mata Anokhi Jee, Mata Ladho Jee, Mata Prem Kaur Jee

Satguru Gobind Singh Jee (Sodh lineage) wives: Mata Ajit Kaur Jee, Mata Sunder Kaur Jee, Mata Sahib Kaur Jee

i thought his whole multiple wives thing was this.

guruji only had anand karaj with one. but since in old times if someone brought their daughter to a king n the king said no then no one would marry the daughter n she would become the laughing stock of the community.

so outta compassion guruji let them live in the same mehal as them. :umm:

Thanks everyone....especially namstang...who provided evidence...but i guess im still baffled! I mean since i heard he had 3 wives i was quite shocked and have tried to research it but interpretations all tell different stories so its difficult to get to the facts over the opinions.

Someone told me that he didnt live with more then one at a time, and that they would pass away and then he would marry the next one...although i read that he married his second wife about 10 years before the first wife passed away...so this just confuses me more!

Bhai Kaan Singh Nabha wrote everything that was around during his time. It didn't mean he believed it. As for the 8 wives thing, it doesn't make sence. However, it could be true that Mata Jito Ji died and then Guru ji married again. Howver, it is said that Jito's name was changed to Sundri because she was beautiful. As for marriages of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. It is Gurbilaas Pt. 6 which says Guru Ji had 3 wives. This book is garbage and writes a lot of crap so it isn't a credible source. As for Guru Gobind Singh Ji having multiple wives, if you read chariters, it mentions wife of Guru Ji and not wives. If there were multiple wives, then the writer would have said wives.
