India News: Andhra Pradesh: One killed in sectarian clashes

By Mohammed Shafeeq, Hyderabad, Dec 4

A man was killed and five people were injured in clashes between Muslims and Sikhs here Thursday, police officials said.

The clashes occurred in Kishanbagh neighbourhood in the old quarters of the city after unidentified people burnt a Sikh religious flag.

Armed Sikh men then started attacking houses and shops of Muslims, suspecting their involvement in the incident.

Residents of the area alleged the violence continued for almost 90 minutes but the police did nothing to stop the mob.

The mob attacked people and damaged a dozen houses and shops.

Police said they had taken 15 people into custody and seized some swords. Additional police forces were deployed in the area as tension was still simmering there.

"The situation is now under control. The elders of the two communities sat together and expressed their regret over the incidents," said Additional Commissioner of Police A.K. Khan.

The situation was brought under control after former legislator and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader Asaduddin Owaisi intervened and persuaded the crowd to disperse peacefully. Owaisi got the Sikh religious flag restored at its original spot.

Khan said trouble began Thursday morning when the Sikhs found their Nishan-e-Mubarak or religious flag lying burnt on the ground at Kishanbagh, which is home to about 10,000 Sikhs.

A large number of Sikhs, armed with swords, gathered in the area and attacked the houses and shops of Muslims.

The mob stabbed and killed Mohammed Afzal, 25, an auto rickshaw driver.

Five peo

ple were injured in separate incidents of violence.

Ghan Singh, a Sikh, was critically injured when some Muslim youths retaliated. His condition was described as critical.

A Sikh woman intervened to save the life of one Mahmood Ali, a daily wage labourer who was returning home on not getting work for the day.

The armed mob surrounded and attacked Ali, who was injured on the neck and back before the woman came to his rescue.

Sat Sri Akal:

Can people really be such IDIOTS???

What gain would Muslims in Hyderabad by suddenly resorting to burn a Nishan Sahib?

Me thinks there are Khaki shorts behind this!!!

Some effort should be made to apologize to the Muslim family whose mamber was killed and punishment should be sought against EACH AND EVERY individual of that mob.

Talk about giving Sikhs a bad name...

Two killed in flag clash

Hyderabad, Dec. 4: Two persons were killed and 15 injured today in a communal clash here, reports our special correspondent.

Early in the morning, Sikhs in the Kishan Bagh area found the burnt Nishan-e-Mubarak (religious flag) of the local gurdwara lying on the ground, police said. Suspecting the involvement of Muslims, armed Sikhs attacked houses and shops belonging to the community.

A 25-year-old autorickshaw driver, Mohammad Afzal, was stabbed. Ghan Singh, who was critically hurt, succumbed to his injuries. A sub-inspector was among those injured.

Residents alleged that the violence continued for one-and-a-half hours but the police did nothing to stop the attackers who were armed with swords.

Mahmood Ali, a daily wage labourer, said he was returning home when a group of Sikhs attacked him. A heavily-bandaged Ali said he was attacked by sword- wielding men. “I was hit on the left hand and on the back,” he said. A Sikh woman saved his life, he added.

The situation was brought under control after local legislator Asaduddin Owaisi stepped in. He also got the Sikh flag restored.

“The situation is now under control. The elders of the two communities sat together and expressed their regrets over the incidents,” the police officer said.

The police have taken 15 people into custody and swords were seized. Additional police personnel have been deployed.

Kishan Bagh is an outlying area of Hyderabad with a Sikh population of about 7,000.

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Let's not all jump to conclusions. We all know that even when Muslims are in a minority, it still doesn't stop them from doing mischief. We don't know what has been going on in the last few years there and Sikhs are the last people to riot or attack others for no reason. If Sikhs in the area faced Muslim BS in the last few years then believe me this will now stop. Old saying 'Hindu noon dhamki nal Muslay noon Dhanday Naal'. Deal with a Hindu with threats and a Muslim with a stick.
