Gunman shoots two men in car park

A gunman has opened fire on two family members as they left a funeral.

The uncle and nephew, aged 49 and 28, were driving out of a car park in Smethwick, West Midlands, on Monday when they were approached by the man.

Police said the attacker, an Asian man, fired six shots before leaving. The uncle was shot in the leg and the nephew in the shoulder and pelvis.

The pair remain in hospital where their condition is described as stable. Two more people in the car were unhurt.

Forensic tests

The victims were driving out of the Tollgate Shopping Precinct car park in Churchill Park on Monday evening when the gunman, carrying a handgun, approached.

The victims, in a black Bentley Arnage car, had been to a funeral at West Bromwich Crematorium followed by a gathering at the Sikh Gudwara in High Street, Smethwick.

Det Ch Insp George Tracey, from Smethwick CID, said: "It was after they had left the Sikh Gudwara and were leaving the car park in the vehicle when the shootings occurred.

"There were a lot of people who attended the funeral and I'd like to appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of the car park between 6 and 6.30pm to contact us with any information they may have."

The car park has now reopened after forensic tests.

The gunman was aged about 30 and wore a black turban, black trousers and jacket and a white shirt. He may have been wearing a false beard.

Its not clear yet whether the shooters were Sikhs or not. Police believe the guys to have been wearing a fake beard. [it was a black beard Harmeet Singh, so i think that means Santa is in the clear.]

Asian doesnt mean they are Sikhs. They could be Hindus, Muslims, Chinese whatever. So lets not jump the gun just yet.

As for driving a Bentley... thats coz they have probably worked hard for their money...?

Nama Singh, would you or anyone else be surprised if it was related to the Gurudwara dispute? As for the false beard, the police said they were not sure if that was true or not --- could be a witness in denial who doesnt want to face the fact that Sikhs can act like the worst kind of murderous violent gangsters to each other.
