waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh

just wondering, how much is little?

i could live off less than a thousand calories a day, im not really a food person. but that would mean that im starving and would slow my metabolism down a lot possibly leading to weight gain. the guideline for women is 2000 calories per day and 2500 for men. so how much should we be eating? how much is little? i know this question is a bit stupid, but please try to take me seriously (if possible).

i hope someone can help, thankyou!

Homie, I am not too good at math man, so I won't tell you in numbers, but remember one thing always eat a little little often, because that keeps your body in check, and it helps you with calories.

For E.G. Instead of eating 4 rotis eat 2 rotis for breakfast, than at 12 have a sandwich, than at 6 have dinner (nott HUGE dinner) and sleep with drinking one glass of milk.

For you that should be good. Each person has different routines, but its' reccommended to eat small portions quite often rather than eating huge portions less times. On a side note, I am a milk person, I drink milk like 3-4 times a day, and I not really into eating a LOT as well, I like to eat rice a lot because it digests fast, plus they go with everything, you can even eat them on their own, just my preference. Try hitting the gym too, if your worried about calories that way even if you end up eating too much, you can always burn it off, plus having a good physique is really good not for showing off but for self-esteem, and being a tyar par tyar SINGH!

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

Well it depends based on how much activity you do... if you're really active, then 2000 calories may not be enough, but if you arn't, it could be too much.

The only way to really tell is by looking at weight gain/loss over time. If you start losing weight when you're a pretty healthy individual (the real definition of healthy, not the brown version where healthy means fat and weak means skinny), then you are probably not eating enough.

The meaning of little is adequate in my eyes.

Ie: dont eat so much that you get attached to food... more like only eat the minimal requirements.. as much as you need. Not as much to make u fat.

Fact: If you eat 100 calories more than you burn it off (1 bar of kitkat) everyday.. then in about 30 years you'll gain 40 stones - ouch

waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh

please forgive me for not making myself clear. this isnt a post about gaining weight. sort of the opposite. i had an eating disorder since i was thirteen and eventually it got to the point where i was not eating enough to keep my body going. with guru sahibs kirpa that is now under control, but i need to know how much i should be eating each day, as guru sahib tells us to eat little, sleep little and talk little. i know i should eat little but i dont wanna starve myself and fall back into old ways. im guessing my calorie intake should be over 1000 calories but under 1500. something like that. thanks for all the help!

it is simple. it is not about being attached to food or anything.

It is about filling your stomach and then stopping. Don't overeat. I assume, this is so sikhs stay healthy and fit, not overweight or obese.

Eat as much as you want, but don't make it unhealthy, keep a balanced diet, etc.

Agreed. Eat enough to keep your body going. I remember a calculator online that showed you how many calories your body would need for its daily functions. And that's before you start to put in your own requirements.

Eating less that 1000 calories is generally meant to be for overweight people who eat too much, as a means of diet control. For you, aim for 2500/2000 depending on whether male/female and then tailor to your needs. If at 2000 calories you are still losing wieght.tired etc, eat more.

1000 calories is dangerously low, and if you do go on a extremely low calorie diet of 1000, it should only be done for a short period of days. Its easy to be healthy at 1500 calories if you eat good quality nutrient filled food, but i would aim a touch above that at 1700.

Once you start calorie counting you get a nack for it, and you will be able to guess how many calories are in each food item. Split your meals, eat 5-6 small meals during the day, this will keep your metabolism high, and you wont have the sickly feeling of eating too much.

    • Definitely the Guru Sahibs would be a heavier Scriptures to handle. Dasam Granth is more towards Bir Rass, Guru Gobind Singh showed his Greatness (of course, they would never say this) by separating his own Baania.  And the BIGGEST test of all?? Do we try and read Dasam Granth, Understand n show respect like we do to SGGS? Or... Do we QUESTION it? Guru Gobind Singh Ji is testing us.
    • My wife will be going for an MRI scan next week but her Kara won’t physically come off.  Is there any way the mri scan can be done with the Kara still on?  The alternative is we will have to try to saw it off before the scan.
    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
