A new political party, Shiromani Akali Dal (International), headed by Mr Atinderpal Singh, a former MP from Patiala, was launched here today.

While addressing a press conference, the party president said the aim of his party would be to achieve Khalistan. In the same breath he said they would get the party’s working, formation and constitution registered with the Election Commission of India. He said they would contest the forthcoming SGPC elections.

On a query, he said they would contest elections under the Indian Constitution but eventually would work towards the establishment of Khalistan. When asked if Khalistan would mean a separate Sikh state, he skirted the issue saying that they had no connection with Mr Jagjit Singh Chauhan, the Khalistan ideologue. Instead, he said, the formation of Khalistan would be within the jurisdiction of Punjab with a democratic, socialist and secular set-up. On apprehensions of return of violence that shook the state for a decade, he assured that they condemned those who indulged in violence.

The list of members of the party included two hijackers of 1984, Karam Singh and Harinder Singh, who he claimed had enrolled themselves as members of the party on telephone from Switzerland. The party members also included family members o

f slain militants.

Mr Atinderpal Singh, who had faced serious charges of having a hand in the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, actively participating in struggle towards a separate Sikh state of Khalistan and being the mastermind behind the fortification of Darbar Sahib, he said they would strengthen their party at grass-roots level in four years and emerge victorious as a ‘Panthic’ party to bring about significant and positive changes in the state.

I think the mood in Punjab is changing big time.

Here are some of the parties in Punjab

Khalsa Raj Party -- Jagjit Singh Chahuan, he wants to see a Khalistan made by democratic means

Shrohmani Akali Dal (Inder) -- Panthic party, headed by Ravi Inder, and Baba Sarbjot Singh bedi

Shromani Akali Dal (Mann/Amritsar) - Freedom of Rights for all people, and spearheaded by khalistanis

Shromani Khalsa Panchyat -- Wants to get rid of bhaiyas, and is against Ashtosh

Dal Khalsa -- Wants to see Khalistan made.

Lok Bhlai Party -- Ramowallia, and Harbhajan mann [son in law], not to sure of the mandate, except trying to help girls who were hurt by marriage lies from NRIs.

I think if all of them are united, then there is a good chance of seeing Khalistan.

i was thinking bout this a while back

say khalistan was made...would sikhs have to face another 1947 or 1984 as far as bloodshed was concerned? i have heard hindus say that they wont repeat the mistake of 47 of letting muslims stay in india, and so wud make sure that all sikhs left india...if that happens, what about the historic gurdwaras that stand in other indian states? in such a case, even if khalistan is achieved peacefully, any possible catastrophe is possible!

one way to try and counter this threat is to encourage sikhs in other indian states to move with their business to Punjab (i know this may sound absurd), thereby ensuring their safety in the event of khalistan being born...and have a batallion of the Sikh regiment guarding all historic gurdwaras in other indian states (another absurd thought) if possible.

i think it will b ecivilized because i think when khalitsn is free it will be a time, when the whole subcontinent will celebrate with the Sikhs, people of all faiths in india will rejoice that the Sikh people are finally getting justice because the truth will be exposed about government tyranny against the panth......my dream :T:

The Lok Bhalai Party is a joke. The guy who set it up is Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, he was an Akali leader in 1984 and one of the those who made a vow to defend the Harmandir Sahib in case of the army attacking. He was one of the first to raise his hands up and surrender !

His party is into petty gimmicks. In the 90's he spread some BS about him being the guy who stopped Sikhs from being harrassed in Delhi airport. Now he uses girls who have been hoodwinked by NRIs in order to get some political mileage. Ramoowalia is a political opportunist. His main election plank is that his party is an alternative to the Akali-BJP and Congress against their corruption. He claims that his party is against corruption in npolitics but during the Punjab assembly elections in 2002 his party candidate vowed to clear the telephone bills of all the people in my village if they voted for him. His chumchas collected all the bills off the people. The views of the villagers were that if Ramoowalia can renege on his vow to the Guru he

made in 1984 then how can he be trusted to keep the vows he made to us ! When his candidate didn't win and even lost his deposit as no one voted for him they returned the bills back to the people and refused to pay them !

Like I said, Lok Bhilai party is as corrupt as all the others
