Flag Of Your Country Next To Nishan Sahib?

Recommended Posts

People i was using UK as an example. The topic is not restricted to UK only. As for can an American put forward his views on situtation in uk? Well why cant he/she. If that was the case then you would have to be in Iraq, Iran to talk about those countries.

So finally, please keep the posts following this post realted to the topic.

Guys stick to the topic, no pakistani and muslim bashing.

Yeah, so i was thinking that lets say we do put the flag a bit lower than the union jack. Then people will have problem with the union jack being lower in height than nishan sahib.

Does it matter if they are of same height?

I dont really know but it just doesnt feel right.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Vaheguru Ji Ke Fateh!

Piri - Saint

Miri - Politics

So Nishan Sahib Ji should be higher

At Amritsar there are 2 Nishan Sahibs one is higher to represent Piri the Other is lower to represent Miri

Naam Japu :umm:

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Vaheguru Ji Ke Fateh!

no no NO!

Miri is NOT politics!!

its temporal rule.

temporal: Pertaining to time or tense, not eternal.

ie: The rule that is limited by time. That is not politics, its everything in this physical world.

Politics is "Vote for me!"

Temporal Rule is "Let's sort this out"

Spot the difference..

I'm proud of being british and all that, but our guru deh khar, shouldn't be associated with any other organisations, like recieve money from the government, they are always usually formed by the kinds hearts of the sangat. so to put the union jack and the Nishan sahib, it wouldn't sit comfortably with me.

not to pick on you, but you have a khanda with an overlay of a union jack. what's the difference between that and flying a british flag along side the nishaan sahib? nishaan sahib is religious, not political like the union jack, and vice versa. It should be lower, but I don't see any real problem with it. I know there's a situation out in california where they wanted to put up the nishan sahib, but the county or something had an ordinance that said that the u.s. flag had to be the largest flag on a property, so they can't legally put up the nishan sahib. In that situation, I can see that it's wrong to do that, but if there's no ordinance saying that in British law, what's the problem? Just fly a lower one underneath.

Sorry for the late reply, when I posted my post, I know I was gonna get asked that.

The khanda has the british flag within it, to represent british people, the Khanda is a one symbol for sikhi, with deeper meanings. This represents the people or the sikhs, rather than a gurdwara, Which is a Guru da Ghar, We have nationalities, weather it comes before religion or be nationality is another arguement but since when did Guru ji have a nationality, never, which also brings on another arguement should we have nationality, isn't our nationality the Khalsa, i'm getting confused

Bhul chuk maaf karni ji!

Guest Narinder Singh

Im sure most of our opinions of having a national flag hoisted right up with the Nishan Sahib would change if it came to the flag of India.

But the Union Jack seems to be accepted amongst most of us, i find that strange since both governments and nations have killed our people and raped our land.

Fateh.

You're not wrong when you say this is confusing, but I still believe that this can be approached with some kind of rationale. By placing the U.J. flower than the nishan sahib, aren't we kind of saying that Sikhi trumps all?

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
