Care needed with Online Gurbani

Sangat Ji, just thought id point out something which i heard recently.

A young lad decided that becuae his dad did a lot of gurbani that for his birthday he would give him an extra special birthday present.

What he did was... :) he printed out the whole of Guru Granth Sahib Ji at home on his printer on paper and gave it to his dad to read. :@

Obviously the young lad didnt know what he was doing, he thought he was doing something nice for his dad, but gurbani is gurbani and having all of the bani from Guru Granth Sahib Ji together in that way constitutes Guru Ji as Guru Ji, and thus needs to be respected with the full care. The father fortunetly knew that his son had made a mistake and brought Guru Ji to the Gurdwara Sahib, where they are sending Guru Ji to somewhere in Punjab where proper saskar can be undertaken.

Just thought id ask any people with websites which host Gurbani to please put up some kind of notice to advice people that Gurbani is Gurbani even if printed on paper as oppossed to in a gutka sahib, and that they should not just print it out and keep it lying about. Also advice specifically not to print out the whole of Guru Ji!! If they do print any Gurbani please treat with respect!

thank you, sorry if this is already done on most sites, but since it happened to this boy im guessing that not enough of a notice is put up! maybe you guys ca

n programe something that when they click print a message pops up or something!??!

thats one reason i never downloaded SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB even on my computer...i had it in my hard drive in college but deleted it coz bani is after all bani and the utmost care has to be taken to avoid any kind of be-adbi...so yes i fully support your concern...and i must add just as u did that even the nitnem banis or other banis that are printed or are in gutke shud be treated with utmost respect ^_^

good point :)

waheguru jio!

I know wher eyour coming from singh ji.. but its not like how it use to be where there was guru sahib teaching us the way and what bani meant and directing us. We are on our own now and as you can see, you see some people going to the left, right north all directions. All can be different paths but different ways.

But anyway .. my point is .. on the internet .. anyway who is not on the rite track .. i think its good way to get them back on track. I can talk on my behalf cuz if it wasnt for online kirtan, gurbani, online downloadable scripts of bani, i wouldnt be in sikhi dat much. I think i learn somethin new everyday.

Hmmm.. just my two cents. But i totally respect where your coming from veerji ... keep posting :e:

bhul chuk maph!

I think we should also have respect for audio tapes, CDs, videos and DVDs with Gurbani contents. Sometimes it's easy to place a Gurbani CD on the floor without realising.

Bani is available for PDAs, I also think we need to be very careful about downloading and carrying GurBani on a PDA. How many people carry their Nitnem Gutkas around with them??

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
