Mocing along, i need more info, like a name for what is going on, etc.. and even more info

Moving or moving does not matter. What matters is your state of mind and devotion, and meditation on God. if you are into the meditation enough to move around, well.. enough said.

But ii don;t do ti for show, and i'm sure the others don't either.

thhir ghar bait(h)ae prabh apanaa paavahu ||2||

Remain steady and stable within the home of your own self, and find God. ||2||

I think here the reference to remain steady and stable is related to the Mind. We tend to think many things as the mind has a tendency of wandering. Hence our mid sould be stable and steady. It is that I am presuming. I am giving below some tips on controlling mind. I am sharing with you as I find this useful on many occassion.

Some Guide-lines in Mind-control

Mind is so framed that it runs to extremes. Through Sadhana or spiritual practice, it should be brought to a balanced state. It is one-sided by its very nature. It is through mental drill or training that integral development must be achieved.

Make a vigorous and earnest search within. Do not trust the mind and the Indriyas. They are your enemies. Lust and wealth are your bitter foes. These are two great evils.

Mind exercises its sovereignty over man through the force of attachment, craving. It does various tricks. When you once know its ways, it lurks like a thief. It will no longer trouble you.

In controlling the mind, you have to do seven things:

1. You must get rid of all desires.

2. You must control your emotions. You must control the temper so that you may feel no anger or impatience.

3. You must control the mind itself so that the thought may always be calm and unruffled.

4. You must control the nerves through the mind so that they may be as little irritable as possible.

5. You must give up Ego. Ego strengthens the mind. It is the seed of the mind. When you have become an Egoless, how can criticisms, taunts and censure affect you?

6. You must destroy all attachments ruthlessly.

7. You must give up all hopes and prejudices.

The following will bring you peace of mind undoubtedly:

o Avoid the company of evil persons.

o Live alone.

o Reduce your wants.

o Do not argue. Arguing creates sense of hostility. It is a sheer waste of energy.

o Do not compare yourself with others.

o Do not lend your ears for public criticism.

o Give up the idea of name and fame.

I've done it a few time myself, as with the motions of the naam simran being said and the "sound" of it.

Can anyone give me more info, like that is it called, if theres a better term, etc...

thanks

Surinderjit Singh

There is a difference between you making the movement and the movement happening on its own.

Simply the act of movement does not create more 'Anand' it is what causes the body to move is when you surrender your body and mind to the beat of the Music/Sound/Vibrations/Words.

But when movement does happen, get out of its way and allow it to happen and the truth of the matter is when it does happen on its own, you won't be able to stop it. You'd become an observer to the movement not the creator of it.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

If someone is enjoying doing naam/simran it doesnt matter how or if they are expressing them self, just let them enjoy. But on the other hand if it becomes nothing more than a habit then it could become a method in which you could lose concetration.

good reply.

Sometimes it does happen by itself, other times its your body moving in rythm with the beat/music, and at other times its pure pakhand.

Either way, you would assume that the 'anand' which causes bodily movement is not somehow connected with the beat of the tabla. Unfortunetly for many of us it is ... the moment the fast table and fast vaheguru vaheguru stops, the heads also stop swinging and people return to their normal seated position, in a calm and collected manner .. until the next round of fast table that is!! Is this anand? or is it something else?

if maharajh says that sitting like a crane in water, or with your eyes closed etc is a pakhand if there is nothing inside, then equally jumping around and swinging your head is equally a pakhand if there is nothing going on inside.

In sri dasam granth maharajh describes how a bhagat should focus his dhiaan on vaheguru just like a hunter focuses on his prey. Once he has his target in sight of his arrow, no noise, no wind, no smell, no movement or anything will shift his attention, his whole being and mind is focused on the prey and the prey alone. But for fools like us, we sit eyes closed but they pop open every time a door opens or someone walks past us, and for the body poppers they snap out of their anand as soon as the tabla stops taking a beating or a kirtani that they dont 'like' starts doing kirtan.

How far are we from true samadhi!!

I came across this video; I would request that people please reply with sensible answers, what does the Sangath feel about this video? these actions? Is it any different from the AKJ Kirtan/venue/smagam?

It’s not a question about being right or wrong; the person in the video has reacted according to what emotion has built up within him.

    • I'll leave it at this Hanji. You need to contemplate precedent and slippery slope. I mean your mindset could be applied to anything.  Still have made no comment about covid immune people.  I mean why not mandate everything we deem beneficial? You're talking about signing up not only you, but everyone, for mandatory jabs for decades? And you don't think there's any room for error in that? Or malfeasance? In Kalyug? I don't want you have to close the thread or anything, we both want Sarbat Da Bhala, we just don't agree on this issue, and all other aspects of covid aside, mandatory anything, and the types of tactics we see being employed are not okay.
