why is it that alot of MOD EDIT - young Sikhs go around acting like gangster sikhs?

baba jarnail singh bhindrawale is like god for most of them, and they can't get over fantasizing about ak-47s and jagowale rap tracks, but have no jeevan at all its just so frustrating to see that some youth are heading into that direction.

This really baffles me. How can you tell people to do anything when you don't even have respect for yourself? If you didn't think you were "worthy" to begin with, then please don't put yourself in the spotlight where your motives for saying something could be questioned.

peacemaker, i think he was joking haha

But, it's true... There's so many of these younger kids who can name off just about anything pertaining to 1984 and Sant Ji, but who probably dont know the first 5 pauris of Japji Sahib... I love that they're inspired, but it just seems like it doesn't seem to inspire them to become more bani-imbued, it seems to inspire them to become "hardcore" and "militant" and unfortunately, increasingly filled with hatred

like I understand the need to commemorate and remember June 1984, but maybe i'm alone in this, but it totally bothers me that we forgot one of the reasons that made BlueStar such a big deal. There was that many people on the complex becuase of Guru Arjan Dev Ji`s Shaheedi Gurpurab.....

Again, i'm in no way trying to marginalize everything the shaheeds of 1984 gave us. They laid down their lives, they spilled their blood and they took a stand against an oppressive government, and we probably can never thank them enough, or do enough ustat for them... BUT here's my disappointment:

Guru Arjan Dev Ji's shaheedi Gurpurab came and went, and in comparison to the number of threads on hatred being spread for hindus and other people, it was a bit surprising... Because it seems the 1984 threads all turn into some sort of hate mongering for one grou of people or another..... Our shaheeds laid down their lives because the love in their hearts was so intense, that they saw that as a way to express themselves to Guru........ as professor puran singh writes:

“I have come away now, My bosom throbs. The Guru has called me to the service of the Khalsa; I am offering my heart’s blood, only a few drops they are, for mixing it with the cement with which one more marble slab is to be laid today on the floor of our Hari Mandir"

THAT'S THE SPIRIT OF OUR SHAHEEDS, but we turn most of these threads into absolute bullcrap... absolute waste of time, and then young kids read this junk and think "oh wow, i need to be angry if i wanna be guru gobind singh's sikh"

and meanwhile, in the process, we're forgetting the sacrifices of our Gurus themselves... Guru Arjan Dev Ji's shaheedi was largely forgotten on this site... but hopefully everyone remembered it for themselves and commemorated it within their hearts....

again, not trying to say that we shouldn't remember and commemorate June 1984... so don't assume i'm spitting on the legacy of the Sikhs who lost or had their lives dramatically altered from the events.

gangster sikhs lol, last week i loved it when i went to a vaisakhi mela,i saw so many many apne with cut hair, smoking and wearing Bhindranwale shirts, the ironic thing being that if sant ji could see them he'd be telling them how badly they have failed!!!!

I think the important thing to perhaps remember, in regard to the khalistan problem, is "pehla sant, pher siphai".(first saint, then soldier

    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
    • All of these are suppositions, bro. Linguists know that, generally, all the social classes of a physical area speak the same language, though some classes may use more advanced vocabulary. I'm talking about the syntax. That is, unless the King is an invader, which Porus was not. When you say Punjabi wasn't very evolved, what do you mean? The syntax must have been roughly the same. As for vocabulary, do you really think Punjabis at the time did nothing more than grunt to express their thoughts? That they had no shades of meaning? Such as hot/cold, red/yellow/blue, angry/sweet/loving/sad, etc? Why must we always have an inferiority complex?
    • I still think about that incident now and then, just haven't heard any developments regarding what happened, just like so many other things that have happened in Panjab!
