Bhagat Singh...Uneducated about Sikhism?

I was just reading the description of Bhagat Singhs atheist views on allaboutsikhs.com

And he was bashing his belief in all types of religion, and said he could not believe in any religion with the mystics and doctrines of sikhism.

Across his reports and letters, i came across his writings of :

"Within a week it is to be pronounced. What is the consolation with the exception of the idea that I am going to sacrifice my life for a cause ? A God-believing Hindu might be expecting to be reborn as a king, a Muslim or a Christian might dream of the luxuries to be- enjoyed in paradise and the reward he is to get for his sufferings and sacrifices. But what am I to expect? I know the moment the rope is fitted round my neck and rafters removed, from under my feet. that will be the final moment-that will be the last moment. I, or to be more precise, my soul, as interpreted in the metaphysical terminology, shall all be finished there. Nothing further. A short life of struggle with no such magnificent end, shall in itself be the reward if I have the courage to take it in that light. That is all. With no selfish motive, or desire to be awarded here or hereafter, quite disinterestedly have I devoted my life to the cause of independence, because I could not do otherwise. The day we find a great number of men and women with this psychology who cannot devote themselves to anything else than the service of mankind and emancipation of the suffering humanity; that day shall inaugurate the era of liberty. Not to become a king, nor to gain any other rewards here, or in the next birth or after death in paradise, shall they be inspired to challenge the oppressors, exploiters, and tyrants, but

to cast off the yoke of serfdom from the neck of humanity and to establish liberty and peace shall they tread this-to their individual selves perilous and to their noble selves the only glorious imaginable-path."

(He's talking about the day he will be hung etc..)

Is he just uneducated about his own birth-religion, or is this not what the establisment of the Khalsa was supposed to do?

Arent sikhs students of life, serving humanity?

We dont believe in paradise or after-life joys in a material world.

He states that the moment the rope hangs around his neck, its all over....isnt that what sikhism states also? You leave this world when you die. We dont beleive in burying because we know the human will never come back alive again, there is no "Judgement Day" where we rise out of our graves and come back.

Guru Nanak stated humans were the highest life form, and to not worry about after-life. Sikhs are supposed to live for today, not for the after-life. We're supposed to be realists.

I dont understand his arguement and how it can destroy sikhism?

His statements make sense, but they seem to go more along with sikhism then against it.

Or was he just raised practicing sikhism with alot of hindu-influence? (Which was very common in his time period).

Someone please clarify what Sikhism states on those issues for me.

Either I've been intrepreting sikhi wrong, or Bhagat Singh was wrong.

bhagat singh was an athiest, but on meeting bhai randheer singh je, he was firm believer in sikhi and in god and amrit.

in case u dont wanna read the whole article, here is the part i m talking about

I have myself had a chance to read his

article entitled Why I am atheist. Although Bhagat Singh makes a

brilliant attempt in clarifying why he was an atheist, I have a feeling

that his atheism was more circumstancial than a strongly held notion.

The reason I call it circumstancial is because from this article of his,

he seems to have been frustrated at the way the British were treating

Indians in their own country. He questioned the existence of God by

demanding the Almightys intervention in giving the British a sense to

leave India. That never happened on its own, resulting in his becoming a

disbeliever. Now since I call it circumstancial, I beg to be apologized

for putting but one question here : What if India wasnt under British

rule? Even if it was, what if independence was achieved before Bhagat

Singh lost his faith? Would he still go on to become an atheist? The

answer most probably would not be yes, even though I dont rule out its

possibility. But hey, this is just a personal opinion. Even though I am

not an atheist, I can still be wrong and dont hesitate to stand

corrected.

anyone have solid proof on what happened on the meeting with Bhagat Singh and Randhir Singh.

What was discussed? When did it happen? Why did he come a beleiver again?

Seems like his [bhagat's] train of thought couldnt have been shook.

Rochak, I talked to you on msn before, thru "Khalistani Singh"...if you remember, we were discussing the concept of "God." And I brought up the same facts that Bhagat Singh brings up about God.

And about it being circumstancial, I think Bhagat Singh would have reached that train of thought regardless of the British controlling India. He would have seen the other problems mankind faces, and their attempts to get out of it.

Yep, I just skimemd thru Bhagat Singh's bakwas on allaboutsikhs.com, it's pretty funny, cause I can see where his nonsense derives from.

I strongly agree with what you said Hareet...Sikhism is a religion that believes in acting, doing sewa, etc etc, not just sitting on your "bum" and doing paht all day.

I do believe in a creator, but from my perspective on doing paht, is not for to like "PRAY TO GOD," but for rather bringing us peace, and humility. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, made Sikhs into solid beings who will fight for whats right.

I certainly think, Bhagat Singh had no idea what he was talking about. Sikhi has so many perspectives, thats why I love it. There's no strict way of following things, its your very own interpertation. And usually, we refer to the Guru's teachings more than God's.

Sikhi allows "athiest-minded" folks to be part of the panth, sad to know Bhagat Singh's ego didn't allow himself to see the Light.

come on people dont bash him now ...he sacrificed his life for a noble cause...its debatable if he died for Sikhi or not, but nonetheless he died for a noble cause, agreed?...also, we know that he wanted to take amrit before he died, meaning he died believing in Sikhi, although it may again be debatable if he died a Sikh or not. So end of story

like i said, after meeting bhai randheer singh je he was a firm believer in sikh, amrit, god. Check bhai randheer singh jes autobiogrpahy, i think its in there, not sure.
