Patiala, Oct 11(PTI) Two suspected "suicide bombers", including a woman, were today arrested for allegedly plotting to kill controversial Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, police said.

With the arrest of Bagicha Singh and Gobind Kaur, police prevented a "suicide attack" on the Dera Chief, Senior Superintendent of Police SK Asthana told reporters here.

He said that former Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) militant Bakhshish Singh along with his accomplices were plotting to eliminate the Dera chief.

"The two procured mobile numbers on the basis of fake identity and were in touch with Bakhshish Singh," the SSP alleged.

He said that the conspirators had formed a new outfit 'Bhindrawala Action Committee" and the two arrested had earlier visited the Dera at Sirsa and stayed there for a few days.

"Bagicha Singh was the mastermind along with Bakhshish and they were planning to eliminate the dera chief inside his dera and one of these accused could have been used as a suicide bomber," Asthana said.

"We are further interrogating the accused but preliminary investigations have revealed that Ram Rahim Singh was on their hit list," he added.

Bakhshish Singh was earlier a member of Bhindranwale Tiger Force and later joined KCF. He was out on bail since 2003 but following the 203 ttack on the sect's head he went underground.

Bagicha Singh and Gobind Kaur have been sent to police remand till October 15.

Patiala, October 10 The city police have foiled an alleged bid by “human bombs” to attack Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and some other dera members, following the arrest of two persons, including a woman, suspected to be the alleged “human bombs or suicide attackers”.

Police officials said former Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) militant Bakhshish Singh was the mastermind behind this plot, and together he and his accomplices were planning to eliminate the dera chief. Police have arrested Bagicha Singh and Gobind Kaur. Sources in the police told The Indian Express that an FIR under Sections 419, 420, 465, 471, 153-A, 108 and 120-B has been registered against four persons at police station Samana and more sections would be added in a few days after preliminary investigations are over.

“The accused in the FIR are Bagicha Singh, Amarjeet Singh and Gobind Kaur, who procured mobile numbers on the basis of fake identity and were in touch with the fourth accused, Bakhshish Singh, through these connections,” reads the FIR.

A senior police official confirmed that Bagicha Singh and Gobind Kaur had visited the dera at Sirsa and had stayed there for a few days, apparently to get inside information on the working of the dera. “Bagicha Singh was the mastermind along with Bakhshish and they were planning to eliminate the dera chief inside his dera and one of these accused could have been used as a suicide bomber,” he added.

Investigating officer, SHO (City), Samana, Shaminder Singh confirmed that Qeorah village resident Gobind Kaur was actually used by the conspirators as the main tool that would actually lead them inside the dera in the near future. “We are further interrogating the arrested accused to ascertain their real motive but preliminary investigations have revealed that dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was on their hit list,” he told ENS.

When contacted, Patiala SSP S.K. Asthana said it would be too early to comment on the entire matter as it is very sensitive. “I would talk to the media tomorrow,” he said. Bakhshish Singh was earlier a member of Bhindranwale Tiger Force of Khalistan and later joined KCF. He was out on bail since 2003 before the attack on the sect head, after which he went underground.

DIG Patiala PS Gill confirmed that the arrested accused were planning a suicide attack on the dera chief.

Plan to kill Dera chief unearthed

2 ‘human bombs’ held, remanded in police custody

Varinder Singh

Tribune News Service

Patiala, October 11

Amarjit Singh and Gobind Kaur held by the police here on the suspicion of being “human bombs” to kill the Dera Sacha Sauda chief, had visited the Sirsa-based dera headquarters a number of times to execute their plan.

Amarjit Singh of Marori village, who worked as a farm hand, and Bagicha Singh of Ratta Khera, who owned a photo studio at Samana bus stand, had also allegedly obtained two mobile phone connections on fake identity proofs for communication with Bakshish Singh. Bakshish of Nizammiwala village was wanted by the police for more than a year for attempt on the life of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in Haryana. He was also said to be the brain behind the formation of the “Bhindranwale Action Committee” in Samana subdivision.

“Since Bagicha had close links with Bakshish and had been following his ideology, he somehow persuaded Amarjit Singh and Gobind Kaur to be part of the plan to eliminate the dera chief. Bagicha asked them to get baptised as dera followers. Subsequently Amarjit had partaken of “Naam Daan”. The objective of their becoming dera followers was to monitor security aspects like frisking, checking and underline the possibility of carrying explosives, arms and ammunition into the dera,” said SSP S.K. Asthana, on whose directions Amarjit and Gobind were nabbed from Samana on Thursday under the supervision of SP (D) Gurmeet Singh Chouhan.

Bhindranwale panel has police, Centre on alert

Bipin Bhardwaj

Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, October 12

The “revival” of Bhindranwale’s ideology in the state has sent alarm bells ringing in the Police Department. Not only the state police, but also the union home and defence ministries have taken it quite seriously.

The police is on a high alert, but is not taking any chances to make the facts public. It has got sufficient clues and evidence regarding the active involvement of members of Bhindranwale Active Committee (BAC) in different parts of the state.

The revival of the committee came to light after suspects having contacts with Bakshish Singh, underground kingpin of a bomb attack on Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, were arrested in the state.

The records of cellphone calls made by the suspects to Bakshish Singh has been giving the clear picture of the current situation. Moreover, their mobile phones had ring tones of compositions on Bhindranwale’s messages.

After the arrest of Harjant Singh, alias DC, a resident of Vijliwala village of Batala in Gurdaspur district in September, the police has been working on theories that if “Khalistan Zindabad Froce” (KZF) chief Ranjit Singh Neeta, a Jammu-based hardcore terrorist, was the mastermind behind the revival of the BAC, besides supplying arms and ammunition to its members from across the border.

Apprehensions are there if Neeta was preparing youths as suicide bombers. Highly placed sources in the police disclosed that the Neeta had been hiding somewhere in Jammu on Indo-Pak border.

The Patiala police yesterday arrested three persons, including a woman, for hatching a conspiracy to eliminate Dera Sacha Sauda chief in a suicide attack.

Acting on the disclosure of Binder Singh, an accomplice of Harjant Singh from Muktsar, the policed arrested Harbant Singh and Mukhtiar Singh of Tarn Taran and Ferozepure, respectively. Amarjeet Singh of Samana in Patiala district was also taken into custody for his association with the group. It is also learnt that Amarjeet Singh was prepared to carry out a suicide attack.

Didar Singh, alias Dari, an aide of Harjant had reportedly surrendered before the Jalandhar police sometime ago. The district police authorities, however, denied the fact.

The police has launched a massive hunt for the BAC members through the state.

Ram Rahim will have to go soon or later... they are still practising the Naam thing, baptized and everything is happening in his deras like it did before... but the khalsa fauj have to stop him... Ram Rahim already have disrespected Sri guru gobind singh ji... so he will get his punishment for doing it.. if the goverment of India don't take any action on Ram Rahim... then we will have to do something, cuz enough is enough... this thing is goin on for years now and it will be the same in future if we don't do something...

this is my view.. please try to undersatnd whats happening in punjab.. the govement is trying to do the same thing whut they did it with nirankaries and sikhs in amrtisar... this is the reason the goverment is not taking any action, because they want one of the singhs to get up and kill him, so they can have a reason to kill Sikhs.. like they did it in past...
