Setting your beard

Why gel is that bad..?? oh no another gell discussion tongue.gif .. But in reality there is no difference between gel and oil or shampoo or conditioner..

I have one thing to say.. Don't change urself just that u think that it might be a wrong.. Try to change urself when "Real YOU" tells u to make or suggest a change in you..

Well i tie my darhi, been doing that since i got it. I have noticed that people judge those who Cut their darhi,Tie it or keep it khuli. I personally think that we should respect the way someone wants to follow Sikhi as long as it doesnt break any rules.

Example

I am sure in the past, In Guru ji's time there were GurSikhs who really wanted to see the Guru ji. So someof them would go and see the guru, travel great distances and face many difficulties to get Guru ji's Darshans.

There are also sakhis of Bhagats, whose only wish was to get Guru ji's Darshan, So they would wait for the guru. They would constantly do ardas to the Guru ji's to give them darshan.

Now we got two different methods shown here by Gursikhs. We could say that the first one is better than the other but who are we to judge.

I guess what i am trying to say is, that Keeping the Darhi khuli or tied is personal, It should be left between the Sikh and the Guru. Let them Work it out between themselves. :e:

I TOTALLY agree with what you say. Even another example is bana. THere are many chardi kala singhs who are not in bana, but in regular street clothes or other. But again, lets leave it all too guru ji.

Don't muslims trim their dhari's? Or don't they trim their moustaches?

Could you imagine a Singh with a huge Dhari and no moocha?

hee hee! :umm:

I was just thinking the other day... Why is that I have never heard of any Muslims tied their beard? I guess sikhs must be more smarter and advanced than them.. even tho we are nothing compare to their population. But I have heard not one tie their dhaRee up out of millions of them who keep dhaRee

I look at my father and grandfather's generation here in the UK and I would say that atleast 70% tie their daras with either nets or gels.

Some older relatives have come up to me and asking why I don't tie my dara.

Bravekhalsa is right, muslim men walk around with their daras open, OK they might trim their moustaches. At least they are not ashamed of their bana.

None of our Gurus tied their daras, none of the Puratan Singhs or Sants tied their daras.

GuruFatehJi.

I used to tie my beard from the day it began growing (I had cut hair for two years, owing to health reasons . . . but one day, Guruji did such Kirpa on me and encouraged me to maintain my bana once again because we could not remain separated from each other any longer). Over the next two years, I began having some serious trouble as it used to take me ages to tie my dhaari and then it used to be all over the place because of the wind and heat (hehe!) and the hair spray just couldn't hold it any longer. I was so fed up. I did not want to trim even a single string of hair, so I decided to do a bold thing, quite uncommon in Kenya for a Sikh youth to do . . . . to leave my dhaari open. Majority here trim their beards and I get so sad looking at them. Anyway, I became much more relaxed and peaceful, leaving my dhaari open. Everyday, when I tie my turban and I look in the mirror, I see my Guru stand right infront of me. By granting me His roop, I have His darshan everyday.

My elders sounded alarmed (including my parents) when I suddenly decided to go everywhere, work, socialising, Gurudwaras . . . and leaving my dhaari open. But I didn't even care 2 cents about the looks I was given by the rest of the world too. I feel like a Sikh. I'm proud of my heritage. I am my Guru's Sikh. Through His Kirpa, He has made me his own.
