why did the british have such an easy time recruiting sikh soldiers right after fighting a war with us, was it the money that drove sikhs to join the british army

it was thirst for revenge against those who helped the british. dont forget the indian mutiny- the indians tried to restore the mughal empire, and the remnants of the khalsa knew that they had to do everything to stop them, even if it meant joining the british indian army.

le me tell u a new fact.. First indian war of independence was faught in 1845 by sikhs of punjab(history of india by S. Mazumdar).. in which other indian provinces helped the british to supress the sikhs.

war of 1857 was a mutiny by the section of indian army, who revolted due to religious dispute(cow fat on the bullets).. and other indina rajas.. like quen of jhansi, tatya tope, etc joined the revolt not for india but their own states.. whom british wre acquiring by a new law which forbids the minor to be a head of the state, and both jahnsi and tope had minor kings.(2 yr old son of rani jhansi was made the king!!!) .

so it was nothing sikhs being loyal to the british .. but later sikhs did most of the work to make india a free nation, which the hindi ***** neva acknowledge..

sorry veer..can d MOD edit it??

You shouldn't let frustration get d better of you bhai sahib ji even though it is hard not to become frustrated.

D India machine along with its sympathisers will always downplay, ignore, manipulate acts of brave feats/sacrifices done/made by the Sikhs and normal Punjabis, in their favour. Leading to misinformation about Sikhs...

It is Hindustan after all, naturally the Hindu majority will be its most sort after, brave, fearless, civilised and valuable community. They will not have it any other way...

im talking about sikhs joining british army right after the second anglo sikh war, before 1857, why did so many sikhs join the british army right after 1849 right after the second sikh anglo war?? and why did we stay so loyal up till 1947

Read above replies.. some of the replies answered this question of yours in details...

Once the British East India company's armed forces had annexed the punjab, it was virtually impossible for the soldiers in the Khalsa army to survive and feed their families so they were compelled to join up and serve in order to feed their families and themselves. So that is one of the reasons why many joined up as it was a choice to serve the british...get paid to put food on table or go without with no job and starv to death.

not really, the above answers say they joined to get revenge on the soldiers who attacked the sikhs in the 2 ango wars, but alot of those british soldeirs stayed loyal not all of them joined the mutiny, plus im asking why sikhs joined the british army before 1857 before the other hindu and muslim's soldiers rebelled against the british.
