Does God incarnate?

Yeah, but is God the human body, or the Jyot inside the enlightened person which does not die and take birth, but was realised and shall ever be?

ms514, but the essence in both the drop and ocean is the same, would you call a drop of water a different name to the water in the ocean? Sagur mein boond, boond mein sagar...Vaheguru.

Kaur_1,

saying that Waheguru "comes down as avtaar" is wrong! as the Shabad says above.

I agree that there is no difference between Waheguru and Guru Sahiban and Saint/Gurmukhs who have become Jeevan Mukhta. As they have killed their ego, they have no Maya that makes a hinder between them and Waheguru.

Originally ALL of us are part of Waheguru...but the Maya is a division between us and the Divine. this is the Sikh concept of God and mukhti.

However Avtaarhood as is defined in Hinduism and some other faiths is not the same. Avtaar is both psycially and spiritually said to be God....as God is in human form. my question is whether Sikhism believes in this theory from Hinduism. some people do mean that the Sants they believe in are God themselves. As in punjabi it is said: "Sant ji taan aap Akal Purakh san" and these people do therefore believe in avtaarhood of God. However as the Shabad above tells; saying Waheguru jee will "come down as avtaar" is wrong.

That i think because in Gurmat God is present everywhere...all the times. In other faiths this is not the case. there they say God lives outside it's creation. and when there is trouble on the ground...God "comes down" to enlighten beings. But as Gurmat says Waheguru is everywhere....why should God come down as avtaar, when God is everywhere all the time....

this paradox i don't understand....and when some people start talking about Sant ji being God and also quoting Gurbani...i fall out.

Thanks for the link veerji, i listened to it and got great info. rolleyes.gif

I read Dr. Gurcharan Singh's Sri Guru Granth Kosh, from Gurbani-CD.

it says that the word Avtar has been used in three different forms in SGGS:

1. when a deity (Hindu religion) comes to earth (as incarnation)

2. simply birth, as of a human.

3. to enter, to step down, to come down...

very simple God can incarnate and does so in 6 different forms (avtars) however he/she does not go through the cycle of life and death.

the six types of avtars are as follows;

1. Ansa Avtar- his is the avtar taken by rightious kings such as Raja Janak

2. Aveshya Avtar - this is avtars with spiritual powers

3. Kala Avtar - this is avtars with extrodinary powers usually 14 or 16 powers

4. Nit Avtar - This is the Avtar taken by Sants and Mahatmas Such as Babab Ishar Singh Ji Rara Sahib Walae

5. Namit Avtar - This is where God comes to earth for a short time and does not take birth then dissappears following what work needed to be done. Examples of this are Narsingh and the future avtar of Kalki

6. Pooran Avtar - This is the most powerful Avtar of God before guru Nanak Dev Ji. It was a form which contained almost all powers. Examples of this are Ram and Krishan

However there is one Avtar Higher and that is Guru Sahib. There will never be a greater avtar that will take place.

Please listen to the first part of the Japji Sahib Katha by Giani Thakur Singh Ji on Gurmatveechar.com where this is all explained and also the divans by Sant Baba Jagjeet Singh Ji Harkhowalae which are in my folder on the gurseva hub.
