He asked a legitimate question..

Why are u so defensive?

Its the duty of all sikhs to keep a close eye on all dereh. Infact, in the wake of recent events and whats been goin on for many years, I think its imperative to do so. This is how beadbi at some dereh can be identified in the early stages. Then awareness can be created, also action taken.

Infact u might find this hard to believe, but even as I type this post, im watching a news report on an indian channel about a dera and a rape allegation against a baba.

Im not saying this dera in windsor is bad, I dont know anything about this dera. But im saying I simply encourage people to become aware of every dera.

I would like more information about this dera in Windsor and all dereh in the UK.

Especially if they have a saroop there. If they have a saroop there then its the duty of all sikhs including YOU and ME to ensure that the highest level of respect is being given to Guru.

However, If there is not a saroop there, then its none of our business what affairs people conduct there. Everyone is entitled to their belief.

Bearing this in mind, i'd like more info please.

Here some well researched information why Deras prosper:-

Social neglect leading to growing influence of sects: Experts

By Alkesh Sharma

Chandigarh, May 29 (IANS) Punjab came to a grinding halt for nearly two days after followers of Dera Sachh Khand protested violently against the attack on their leaders in Vienna. Experts feel that the growing influence of such sects is owing to the social neglect of people from lower castes.

Some of the sects like Dera Sachh Khand, Dera Sacha Sauda, Divya Jyoti Jagran Sansthan and the Bhaniarewala sect claim to have millions of followers and have been involved in one controversy or the other in the recent past.

The biggest of the sects - and the only one not to court any controversy till now - the Radha Soami sect of Beas near Amritsar, claims to have more than 100 million followers.

Experts and social researchers say that the spontaneous outbreak of violence after the

attack on Dera Sachh Khand leaders in a gurdwara in Austrian capital Vienna could be linked to pent up feelings among the sect followers, much of it owing to subjugation of people from lower strata by the dominant Jat Sikh community in Punjab.

“Followers of Dera Sachh Khand had perceived the attack on their sect leaders as an attack on their principles and identity that they have constituted after years of struggle,” said Ronki Ram, a Panjab University faculty member, who has done extensive research on Guru Ravidass Deras in Punjab and stayed in one of them to gain first-hand experience of their life.

Dera Sachh Khand is called a Ravidassiya sect because it follows tenets laid down by 14th century social reformer and spiritual reformer Guru Ravi Dass. Many of his teachings were included in the Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib.

“It was the anguish and resentment of the followers that came out in the form of extensive violence in Punjab. They wondered why anybody was harming their leaders or trying to intrude into their territory,” Ram told IANS.

Three people were killed and dozens injured as the state witnessed widespread violence Sunday and Monday with followers of the Dera Sachh Khand sect damaging public and private property to protest the attack on their leaders in Vienna.

While sect head Niranjan Dass is recovering from the attack, his second-in-command, Sant Rama Nand Dass, died of gunshot wounds.

Ram, who is the head of political science department in the varsity, has also presented research papers on Ravidassiya Deras and social protests.

“The number of deras in Punjab and other parts of the country is increasing. They are the group of those deprived people who had faced societal wrath at some time. Lack of freedom and opportunities largely led people to join these deras,” Ram said.

S.R. Heer, general secretary of Dera Sachh Khand, told IANS: “It was natural and the unrest was an outburst of expression of our followers. But we ourselves went to the affected areas and appealed to them not to adopt any violent means of protest. The protests became subdued after Monday.

“Now the situation has become normal. We have crores (tens of millions) of followers spread all across the world and certainly our whole community was hurt by the Vienna incident but still we condemned the use of any kind of violent means for protest.”

The sect is headquartered at Ballan village near Jalandhar, 150 km from here.

It is in the Doaba belt (the area between rivers Sutlej and Beas) where the sect has the maximum number of followers comprising Dalit Sikhs and people from other communities.

“The recent mayhem in Punjab is testimony to the fact that the increasing number of deras in Punjab have overshadowed the mainstream society,” said Satnam Singh Dhillon, a historian and a research scholar at Punjabi University, Patiala, around 60 km from here.

“In Punjab, 40 percent of the population belong to the Dalit community or downtrodden sections and that is maximum in any state of the country. We are sitting on fire and a little provocation is enough to bring unrest in the whole state and these deras can easily hold the whole state on ransom anytime,” he said.

Harmanjit Singh Deol, a student of Punjabi literature here, said: “Punjab is always divided between the dominant Jat Sikh community and other Dalit Sikhs, who are the followers of one sect or the other. Due to this disorder some self-styled godmen and spiritual leaders have taken undue advantage of the circumstances.”

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
