Tiananmen Square/operation Bluestar Media Coverage

Recommended Posts

How come yesterday while watching bbc news, i heard plenty about the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre but didn't hear one thing about operation bluestar where the sikhs religious centre was attacked by the indian government and many died?

Shouldn't we be pushing the bbc and others to cover such stories? Hopefully something can be done for 25th anniverasary of delhi riots?

Fateh.

i completely agree...does anyone have any ideas of what proactive steps that we as individual that may not be affiliated to any organisation can take to ensure that:

a) 25years since the 1984 Genocide against the Sikhs commenced, is getting coverage on BBC

b) that news coverages on Sikh related issues are not bias and well researched ie 'Sikh' Guru shot in Vienna...because they clearly aren't given much importance, therefore have articles full of misinformation

c) that Sikh events/tragedies are getting covered in media ie the Arson assault in Bow & June Rally etc. Had a Mosque or a Church burnt down, it would be a different story

Yes, all the above has not been occurring because of our own faults, the faults of our jathebandiya/organisations that would rather stay away all together or prefer to work alone and not work as one for the betterment of tha panth and finally we must acknowledge that there are some external anti-Sikh elements that ensure the above isn't occuring too.

But ultimately we are ALL to blame for not being proactive...

...if we see some misinformation about Sikhs say on the BBC website rather than contact the author we 'hope' that someone else will.

So please list any positive steps we as individuals can take to ensure we get sufficient as well as accurate media coverage..

into the light

and ragiwanabe

this has all been dicussed soo many times, but thanks for raising it again as sikhs, the media dont give a <banned word filter activated> about us. SIMPLE

solution to this

start our own media mediums

TV - SIKH CHANNEL

RADIO - Amrit Bani / ?

Web/Internet -

Wed Radio

on a mass scale which is colaberated internationally then we are talking, then we can voice opinions such as why the BBC keeps taking our tax money but when it comes to showing equal / even coverage we are always the LAST ONES, sometimes let alone last we are not even mentioned..... UNTILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

U GUESSED IT

.....its something the media can protray negatively to make us look bad.
