1947: Whose Independence?

73% of Indians killed in atrocities by the british were SIKHS (1550/2125)

80% of Indians deported for life to the Andaman Islands were SIKHS (2147/2646)

80% of Indians sent to the gallows were SIKHS (92/127)

61% of Men Women & Children Slaughtered @ the Jallianwala Bagh were SIKHS (799/1302)

60% of the Indian Liberation Army were SIKHS (12,000/20,000)

60% of Indians Executed during the freedom struggle were SIKHS (73/121)

AND YET SIKHS ONLY MADE UP LESS THAN 2% OF INDIAS POPULATION

(Figures provided by Maulana Abul Azad, President of the Congress Party at the time of Independence)

"No Constitution would be acceptable to the congress which did not satisfy the Sikhs."

(Collected works of Mahatma K Gandhi Vol.58 Page.192)

"The brave Sikhs of Punjab are entitled to special consideration. I see nothing wrong in an area and a set up in the north wherin the sikhs can also experiance the glow of freedom" (Jawaharlal Nehru, congress meeting, Calcutta - July 1944)

The Partition meant that the SIKH homeland was divided. Sikh shrines, the Sikh capital city of Lahore and 70% of the most fertile land owned by Sikhs was given to Pakistan 500,000 Men Women and Children also lost their lives during the partition.

1950: The Broken Promises

Despite protests by Sikhs, the Indian constitution was adopted, which failed to even recognise the Sikhs as a separate religion instead Sikhs were recognised as Hindus. The British recognised Sikh marriages under the Anand Karaj Act 1909 howe

ver this was replaced by the Hindu Marriage Act 1951. Punjab was a state utterly broken and totally ruined both economically and socially by the partition with Pakistan. Instead of govt. help, the Sikhs began facing economical, social and religious discrimination.

Farmers in Punjab paid higher prices for their agricultural inputs, but were offered lower prices for their produce in comparison with neighbouring states. The central govt. assumed full control over prices and farmers were not allowed to cross state boundaries to get higher prices for their labour in the next state.

Electricity Generated by the Hydroelectric Dam Bhakra on the panjab border was more costly and was provided in smaller amounts to Panjab than its neighbouring states.

75% of the water available to the Panjab was being diverted to other states.

70% of revenue raised by Panjabis, for the development of Panjab was sent to the other states.

The Central Govt. investment in panjab was less than 1% the lowest amongst all the states, however panjab was the most highly taxed state in India.

Restrictions on the recruitment and promotion on the Sikhs in the armed forces was applied. This was a grave insult as Sikhs being 2% of India’s population counted for the majority of sacrifices in the freedom struggle against the British.

All this after Nehru’s own declaration that states would be “autonomous units” the British “transfer of power act 1947” also provided that: “the Indian govt. will be a federal, loose-centre Government exercising power on only three subjects, namely communication, defence and foreign affairs.” So why is it that the Indian central government has control over how Panjab is run and its natural resources but no control over any natural resources in any other state in India. Why then does it take revenues raised for the development of Panjab and send them to other states. Each state should only share the costs of communicat

ion, defence and foreign affairs.

June 1984: Operation Blue Star; Genocide

“One of the darkest chapters in India’s half-century of independence.”

(The New York Times - USA)

“Eye-witness accounts to the Amritsar massacre talk of women and children being shot in cold blood, and the Sikh prisoners being tied with their own TURBANS and then shot in the head.” (The Guardian - England)

“Hospital medical staff said today Indian Soldiers have threatened to shoot them if they gave food or water to Sikh pilgrims injured last week in the golden temple” (New Strait Times – Malaysia)

“…the sad fact is that the place where so many people met a tragic death is a temple where men gather to pray” (Pope John Paul II)

“the attack by Mrs. Gandhi’s troops on the Golden Temple, The shrine of the Sikh religion has shocked and appalled us all . We need to say loud and clear that the business of government is not to crush religion”(Michael Ward, Chairman Industry and Employment of the Greater London Council)

“for five days the Punjab has been cut off form the rest of the world. There is a 24 hour curfew. All telephone and telex lines are cut. No foreigners are permitted…all journalists were expelled. There are no newspaper, no trains, no buses…ORDERS TO SHOOT ON SITE WERE WIDELY CARRIED OUT. THE WHOLE OF PUNJAB WITH ITS 5,000 VILLAGES AND 50 MAJOR CITIES , WAS TURNED INTO A CONCENTRATION CAMP” (Christian Science Monitor, 8th June 1984)

November 1984: The Delhi Massacres

“Since 1984, some 180,000 Sikhs have been killed by India’s security forces.” (Politics of Genocide by Inderjit Singh Jaijee of the movement against state repression, p41 quoting three human rights groups and three advocates)

Police officers “stood by and watched arson, rape, looting and murder, without making any attempt to intervene to protect citizens belonging to the sikh minority, without attempting to dissuade the at

tackers to call for reinforcements or other support, or even to inform the fire brigade.” (Independent Report)

"Many people complained that in some cases the police were not merely hanging back, but giving active support"

The Future

In 1999 Sikhs were brutally gunned down in Chattisinghpura in Kashmir. Whilst the Indians blamed kashmiri militants there was evidence to suggest that Indian paramilitaries were infact responsible for the massacre. Mysteriously all of those allegedly responsible were shot and killed by the Indian army. The Indian army not kasmiri militants or pakistanis kill innocent kashmiris everyday. The killing of muslims in gujarat was orcastrated by the people but organised by the BJP and Congress. The Nagats, Dalits and Assamese have also suffered similarly at the hands of the indian goverment.

How can you help, you could sign a petition online at http://www.PetitionOnline.com/sikh1699/

here you would also find out more about the 1984 genocide and what the petion is about.

I would like to end this informtive e-mail with a promise mad by congress before independence

"Let god be the witness of the bond that binds me and the congress to you. Our Sikh freinds have no reason to fear that it would betray them. For, the moment it does so, the congress would not only therby seal its own doom but that of the country too. Moreover, the Sikhs are a brave people. They know how to safeguard their rights, by the exercise of arms, with perfect justification before god and man, if it should ever come to that"(Young India 19th March 1931)

!!!!! IT HAS COME TO THAT !!!!!

"Sir Jave ta jave mera sikhi sidhak na javae" if i die then so be it,but may my faith in sikhi remain firm (Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale)
