Stay In Hamandar Sahib For A Week

Recommended Posts

If you are staying at the serai, don't place took much hopes on your advanced booking. Unfortunately it is easily "misplaced" etc etc.

This is particularly so during Gurpurabs and major events - where people with connections (politicians etc) are given priority over the Sangat.

Try Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Niwas and if somehow you do not get any rooms, there is one hotel directly opposite and another nearby.

Personally I prefer Le Golden Hotel as it is very near to the Clock Tower. It belongs to a Gursikh and advanced booking can be done. Also, if you have hotel booking, your vehicle is allowed to travel right up to the hotel (Roads nearby are closed during peak hours and you have to WALK with your luggage if you get there during those hours or transfer to a rickshaw - Policemen on duty actually called the hotel to ask if there is a booking under my name).

Carry your passport with you at all times.

If your stay doesn't cover any Gurpurabs, celebrations then you don't really need to worry about advance bookings. If Guru Gobind Singh Jee NRI niwas is fully booked, then you can stay at Mata Sahib Kaur NRI niwas for 300 rupees per night. This niwas is near SGPC Guru Arjan Dev Jee Niwas and two blocks behind Gulati tailors. Both of these niwas's are cheap and have AC. Other than that, theres loads of hotels to stay at but they are pretty expensive.

The NRI Niwas is good but as someone mentioned rooms are reserved for Badal's people and it is quite political. Also, they often limit the number of days you can stay. They don't seem to like shardawan GurSikhs who want to stay a few days sad.gif

The bigger hotels that are opposite the NRI Niwas and near the Akal Takhat Sahib are quite expensive (approx 1000 rupees per night). If you have trouble getting a room in a Niwas then I can recommend 'Sher-e-Punjab' Guest House which is towards the other side to the Akal Takhat Sahib, near the Guru Arjan Niwas. I went there about a year ago and they charged 300 rupees a night. There was also no limit on the number of days you could stay and it was walking distance from Harimandar Sahib.
