This is becoming quite disturbing.*EDITED* We must step up and condemn them and not let these *EDITED* take control of our gurdwara. I seriously hope these people get charged. I don't care which group you are from- anti or pro sri dasam granth or committee or anti committee. No one has right to fight within gurdwara, infront of maharaj. What do we think we are? *EDITED* As i said before, we need to realize, we are not living in times of monarch...where we can settle differences by dhaka sahi..we live in soceity where we must follow law of the country. Otherwise we be labelled as criminals..sikh outlaws and ultimately may be even deported depending on your status and our temples would be shut...Today by the way was vaishakhi program in the afternoon....sickening. I am sure these idiots put off lot of people who happen to be monaie may be in verge of getting inspired and taking amrit..

Five people are in hospital after two opposing groups clashed inside a Brampton Sikh temple Sunday afternoon.

The fight broke out at the Guru Nanak Sikh Centre at Glidden Rd. near Hwy 410 and Steeles Ave. when one group tried to break up the other group's meeting. It started as a fistfight but witnesses say turbans soon flew and hammers, machetes and construction knives were brandished as a group of about 100 people clashed at about 3:45 p.m.

The fight spilled outside as Peel Regional Police scrambled to take control, said witnesses.

"It was quite chaotic," said Jagdish Grewal, editor of Punjabi Post, a newspaper published in Brampton, who arrived minutes after the fight broke out and saw two men lying outside with a bloodied hammer between them. Others were being given first-aid and taken to hospital.

Inside the hall, where the scuffle happened, Grewal said knives and machetes were still lying on the floor along with torn blood-soaked clothes. "There was blood too on the tiles," Grewal told the Star.

At heart is the control of the temple but no one will say that openly.

The management was not available to comment on Sunday's violence but members of the temple said trouble had started brewing a couple of days earlier when the group opposing the management announced that it would hold a meeting inside the temple.

"All we wanted was to have a meeting to discuss matters of the temple," said Rampal Dhillon, who was inside the hall when the fight broke out. "We started the meeting at 3 p.m. and it was going smoothly when about two dozen people stormed inside."

They were wielding hammers, machetes and construction knives, said Dhillon, who lives in Dundas, near Hamilton. There was screaming and yelling as people shoved and pushed to get outside, he added.

"It's an ongoing dispute among the board members," said Const. George Tudos of Peel Regional Police, adding that police had been called in earlier. "There was indication that there might be some trouble here."

This fight comes two weeks after Manjit Mangat, a prominent Brampton lawyer, was stabbed outside the Sikh Lehar Centre, a Sikh temple located barely a kilometre away from the temple at Glidden Rd. Witnesses had said at least two men brandished unsheathed kirpans, the ceremonial dagger worn by baptized Sikhs, triggering a fresh controversy about Sikhs' right to wear it.

The brampton Sikh sangat should all try to convict the attackers on both sides. I agree that no side should be fighting over such a thing, Sikhs shouldn't fight over themselves. Instead they should try to reason with each other in an educated manner.

What would be a good thing is to simply make all Sikhs and non-Sikhs (perhaps through the media) know that you will not condone such activity no matter what side you are on.

It's a flat out embarrassment.

Even if its not about Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji, why such animosity between brothers?? Its shameful for the entire community! Just read the last paragraph of the article, it reiterates the sikh zehar center kirpan issue..

Yeah, what some individuals don't understand is that their very, very immature and poor choices will effect policy regarding the Kirpan in Canada (brampton).

Some serious chardi kalaa unification is needed there. sad.gif

Here is post by someone from http://www.sikhawareness.com//index.php?showtopic=12711&pid=113213&st=0entry113213 shedding some light on this matter:

I don't know any of the committee members personally, but here are some things I know .

* committee members keep goonda teams ready to fight in case of any attempt by opposing committee to forcibly take control of Gurudwara. These goondas are though from Sikh background but have no interest in Sikhi, they just need some place to fight. Reminded me of Mahant Narainu keeping hired help.

* there are two opposing groups in committee. One group had a member who was caught on the camera stealing from Golak (there is a youtube video). That thief is still in committee, shows that rest of the members are also chor.

Opposing committe also has a member who was accused of rape by a woman, but nobody seems to care. They are more interested in power grab and golak money.

* a statement by some guy Ruby that this being director here is equivalent to investment of half million. This guy was present with his goonda team to assist his friends take control of another Gurudwara (Rexdale Gurughar) few weeks back.

They all are admin cut masands. They deserve to be thrown alive in Karahas of boiling oil.

It seems very odd that after all the negative attention toward all Sikhs from the incident a short time ago, anyone with an interest in Sikhi would actually plan for a fight by bringing weapons.

Can someone reconcile how it is possible for Sikhs to do this? Something is missing from the story.

May be its time to acknowledge rather than living in denial that we got our own idiotic/amritdhari mob bunch just like any other communities have there. No point passing a buck and creating conspiracy theories.. we can create them afterwards and ponder up on it. But at this time, we need Canadian Sikh body to condemn this action and we must also condemn it. If we kept silence and live in denial, khalsa ji time is not very far where these goons will hijack our dharam and kill each other just like sunni and shia kill each other and our temples would be shut and our youths would be either atheist and sullah getting sunnat by some mullah.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
