Head Granthi's driver held for rash driving

Relatives of Harwinder Singh, who died in the accident, arguing with a police officer.

Amritsar, Punjab: Harmandar Sahib Head Granthi Jaswinder Singh's driver Sarabjit Singh was arrested for rash and negligent driving that led to the death of a motorcyclist on Friday.

Jaswinder Singh's red-beaconed white Innova knocked down bike rider Harinder Singh near Plah Saheb on the Ajnala road on Friday morning. The Head Granthi was on his way to attend a function at a gurdwara when the mishap occurred.

In the afternoon, when the Head Granthi was returning from the religious function, the victim's relatives stopped the car and registered their protest.

"It was his moral responsibility to help Harinder and take him to hospital. However, the Head Granthi did not even step out of the car and proceeded to attend the function," the relatives alleged. Harinder is survived by wife and a son.

Police Commissioner Varinder Kumar confirmed that Sarabjit had been booked and arrested. Despite repeated attempts, the Head Granthi could not be contacted.

I don't think highly of the state system appointed "Head Granthi" Jaswinder Singh anyway after his Bhangra dancing video last year..... these people think they are worthy of the same mahan sewa taken on by such great Mahapurshs' like Baba Buddha Ji and Bhai Mani Singh Ji Shaheed.....we have got it so wrong with todays leadership....
