in jaap sahib there are chands.

there are different chands as per different chaals.

each chaal/chand, has a certiam number of matras inside it. e.g. chaupi chund is 16 plus/minus 1 matra.

dohera is 13 and 11 per line.

bhujang pryaat chund has 10 matra, and rasaaval chund has 10 matra.

Q1.

how are these chunds different and how can u tell if the chunds are different, if they have the same matras?

there are a number of other chunds that fall in this catagory.. i.e. have different names, but have the same number of matras. e.g dojak chand and chaupi both have 16 matras :/

Q2.

how are chunds assigned names in the first place?

thanks for anyone hu can help..

plus, please recoment me good books..

i only have a little book called roop deep pingal teeka by bhai bachan singh.. and he explains it in a weird way :/

thanks jioz

Each chand has a certain pattern. By the way, I believe that They have 12 syllables.

Check this, X means to emphasize

This might seem off on your computer since I am using a phone.

Bhujang Prayat Chand:

O X O O X O O X O O X O

Na mst ng A roope. Na mst ng A bhoope

I could be wrong on the pattern for this one

Rasaval Chand:

O O O O X O O O O O X O

Na mo na rk Na sai sa dav ng pr ka say

wen u count, u count all the symbols (inc the adak) apart from the bindi, sihaari, aunkar and half letters. then u will find that e.g. bhujang prayaat has 10 yeach (or 20 as per chaal). same goes for chaupi. this is how one finds discrepencies in the printing of gutke (NOT discrepncies in bani, ONLY as per printing).

it jus occured to me, how would one know the diference in chund having counted all the matras.. e.g. 16 for chaupi as well as dojak chand.

else, could somone plzz explain how to understand the standard way of explaining the chund in books?

they come up with naming systems like ragan, bhagan, charan, lachan etc.. there are about 15 or 16 of these..

atache is a pic from mahan kosh..

plz ava look

lachan is highlighted.

and the second is the highlighted "S" stuffs. i know that this is the chaal of the chund, but i cant understand how they mean..

it myt be hard to type and explain to me over typing..

:/
