Is this a good Kirpan to buy or is it too much of a fashion statement?

I am looking to buy a decent kirpan and not too expensive and also i want to buy a kara what is the best to buy?

WJKK WJKF. First of all the words "fashion" should never be used with kirpan or kara and if dose then you are wearing them for all the wrong reasons.

I don't want it for fashion i just think it looks like one but then again i never wore a kirpan and want to start wearing one and get used to it so is there anybody that can recommend me where i can get one from and on the internet since i am in USA and we don't have shops here in which i can go get one?

But if you want agood reasonable priced kirpan and kara check out sikhstuff on http://sikhstuff.com/category.php?id_category=9they are based in Amritsar.

But I’m sure that there are Singhs in the USA who can findyou a kara/kirpan, just ask the local sangat!

The kirpan is supposedly high quality. Very expensive though.

If you have that money to spend, buying that katana would be well worth it. Chinese smiths with good skills make these swords, the catch is they work in conditions of like 10 cents an hour..

The katana is of equal, if not higher quality than the small Sri Sahib that you linked made by Jot Singh Khalsa...

just general info - this is what we were told when preparing for amrit di daat... i think it applies to everyone: kara kachera kirpan khanga and dastar should never be worn second hand if you are amritdhari. further, at the time of your amrit sanchar all these should be new. and ideally obtained form gursikh places or from sadhsangat. punjabi preditor i would advise that if you dont have access to sangat you find some sangat that can assist you accordingly.

What about prathan shaster (Sri Sahib)? Where did the maryada come from? I can understand the rest, but if you clean steel with some mitti or anything really it is good as new.

What is the average size kirpan people wear mostly? What type of kara people usually wear? The reason i am asking here and not the local sangat is because local sangat usually wears Gold Kara's or Platinum Kara's and most don't wear kirpans they usually make a religious thing into a fashion statement and i want to avoid that.

Daas would say that the average size kirpan people wearis around 5inchs, and I also heard that anything smaller than 3inch is not classed as a kirpan. (Sangat jee please correct me if I'm wrong) Just make sure that your kirpan is sharp, good quality and sarbloh (iron) after all it is guru jees gift to us! But please don't get egoistical that my kirpan is better than yours.

Kara should just be sarbloh and make sure there is no Bani written on the kara as that is beadbi.

Gold and Platinum?!?! Waheguru!!! :doh: what about the amritdhari Sikhs in your area do they wear them too?
