OK...here are some point:

1. Meat-issue, something clear on it...most sikhs are confused over eating meat or not.

2. Authority of Dasam Granth in relation with Sri Guru Granth Sahib

3. Something clear on Raag Mala

4. Have som codes for eating Langar, and Gurdwara etiqutte that was designed on this site by Gurpreet Bhainji

5. Equal status to Bibian, as per the Seva issue is concerned

6. Something clear on Sehajdharis, if they can vote or not.

7. Gurdwara management rule: Only Amritdhari Sikhs, women and men, should be in the commt. and everyone must follow the Rehat.

8. Edit the Ardas, to add something on 1984...after 'jinnah Gurdwareh-Gurdama no Panth to Vishorea geya heh'

9. The Rehat gives us Five Banis Paath, however many groups do more...so i am not sure if that is to be added, but doing more Paath should be considered good.

that is it for me....will think of more afterwards.

Equal status for all without any reservation based on the caste system (which is against the teachings of our Guru) in any Sikh elections. The SGPC has reservation seats for certain castes.

yeah Stop Singh, that point should be added!

however, isn't that step for the uplisftment of "backward castes"...i mean we don't believe in caste, but the social structure in india/punjab has such people...and isn't it good that sgpc has that rule, so that those people can also join sgpc.

No I do not think so. People should be selected on merit and not just becasue they belong to a certain so called caste. This goes against the teachings of our Guru and should be stopped. It really does nothing for uplift. It actually restricts democracy as people are stopped from standing and representing the people.

By allowing these reservation seats the SGPC is going against the teachings of our Guru.

right, we have agreed that we want the akal takhat maryada redrafted, right?

do we want the sarbat khalsa to be contacted on all this? do we want them to all agree there should be one maryada?

my point is, is there anyone here, willing to set up a petition to the jathedar for doing so?

anyone here?

at all?

you point is acceptable, Stop Singh. i agree.

Kandola, if i have listed some points, that does not mean everyone agrees with that.

The only suitable way to work on this is by asking SGPC, DSGMC and other comt.s in America, UK, etc...to form an International unit working on Sikh Rehat, comprising of all Gianis, Vidvaans, reseach scholars, on one side and Sants, Mahapursh, Sampardaik representatives, on the other side.

After that every Jathebandi/scholar/institution that is related to Sikhi and in concerned about the Rehat, should hand in what they mean is the points to be added in the Rehat.

The Rehat Unit should work for some time, and give answars to every question...and finally submit a Rehat draft to Akal Takht, alongwith the other Takhts, so that all representatives of Sarbat Khalsa are present, and it is sanctioned by them.

To say that the whole Sarbat Khalsa should be present, is nothing more than a dream. Also in the old ages of Sarbat Khalsa, the Sardars, Misal Chiefs, the representatives of Panthic groups used to attend. so that is the way to go.

and your point is?

anyway.

a draft letter

Dear jathedar,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa

Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Bhai Sahib, with all due respects ji. Guru Gobind Singh said that the panth would be strong if with one voice.

its clear and simple that if we are united, we stand, if divided we fall.

Bhai Sahib, the akal takhat is the highest authority of all sikhs. however, with many jathebandhiss being formed we carry on fighting and at this rate we will never get khalsa raj.

as a result bhai sahib. i humbly request you to do the following.

1. contact the sarbat khalsa.

2. redraft a new rehat maryada that is acceptable by all jathas.

that way, the jathebandhis will still do parchaar in their own way, as well as promote the akal takhat maryada instead of promoting their own.

that way bhai sahib, the panth will be stronger, more united and the world will be a better place. Khalsa Raj will come once the panth unites under Sri Akal takhat Sahib.

I hope you listen to my ardas ji

bhol chukke muaff

Das

well sangato, thats the first draft, add anything else you want to.

i think make two changes.

however, with many jaths being formed such as AKJ, we carry on fighting and at this rate we will never get khalsa raj.
take out "AKJ". just say many jathebandis have rehat maryada different than Akal Takhat Sahib. also it sounds like you are saying AKJ and many jathas fight all the time but that is not true. people who fight label themselves as "AKJ" or "Taksal" which brings bad name to the jathebandis. otherwise these "fights" would've started since the time of Bhai Randhir Singh Ji which makes pretty clear that it is our ego that makes us fight because we always want to be "right".
that way, the jaths will still do parchaar in their own way, as well as promote the akal takhat maryada instead of promoting their own.

now i think promoting their own maryada is a way to do parchaar their own way. no? this sounds like these jathebandis came up with their own version of rehat maryada. but why? why would they want to have different rehat maryada than Akal Takhat Sahib? Sikhs very well know that many changes were made to rehat maryada at Akal Takhat Sahib. As agents and mahants took over they changed it. British wanted it that way. my p

oint is please do not call it "their own" maryada. change it to something else.

Rehat maryada should be one. I talked to many people from different jathebandis, Akal Takhat Sahib, SGPC but nothing done and nothing will be done as long as agents have control. in 1996 SGPC and Sikhs wanted to make one rehat maryada. many jathebandis were in on it too but too bad SGPC elections came and after the elections everyone forgot. Guru Ji's Bhana. I don't expect anything to happen but who knows. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

kandola jee

to illustrate my point i will tell you a sakhi

there was a very chardee kalaa gursikh who was approached by a very prominent politician

the politician told the chardee kalaa gursikh that "bhai sahib jee we will do all that is in our power to solve the problems of the panth. we will help the sikh community of punjab - bhai sahib jee we are with you on this fully. we will do all that is in our power."

the chardee kalaa gursikh said, "have you done your nitnem this morning?"

the politician's face became very red and he had to admit that he hadn't

the point of the story is not just that we should do our nitnem

but the more basic things - we should not be breaking the four kurehits

we should at least keep the basic rehit that we will not break the four kurehits

then we have some right to make lead movements for panthic change.

before that i don't think we really have a right

The basics of all different rehit maryada are the same... Some tend to put more emphasis on one thing, some on others. What's wrong? Nothing, as long as we don't go out and point fingers at other rehatvaan Singhs or Kaurs because their maryada is different from ours. The only thing wrong about the marayada is NOT following it. All Panthik rehit maryada's stress strictly on not cutting kesh, doing simran and path and not using drugs. So perhaps if someone wants to bring everyone under the fold of Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib, he/she needs to start adopting the basics of the rehit maryada first.

And as instructed to us: Avar Updeshe Aaap Na Kare, Avat Javat Janme Mare...

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
