What are some of the weaknesses sikh parants have when raising kids and what are the best ways to fix those weaknesses

How many kids lack knowledge on sikhi

What are some negative aspects of punjabi culture that parants teach kids

What about the gender bias a lot of parants favor the girl over the boy

And do you think a lot of punjabis pursuit of money have left kids neglected and how do they learn to balance their ambitions with raising their children

What do you think is the biggest challenge sikh parants face and what can be done to help

From a singhnees prospective here goes:

1) Desi parents seem to live there life through their kids. In other words they push their kids a bit too much at times. Eg. Most parents seem to want their child to become a doctor or something "big" because they probably couldn't become one. This leads to nothing more than a "A*" been enough. If you get a "A" that's not good enough why didn't you get a A*? Its like parents of our culture don't understand that they should praise their children based on the childs ability not on the higher the grade. Getting a "C" could be one childs main aim but anothers ability could be reachable to a "A". This pushes kids away from parents during teenage years I think (gcse age) if the child is a average achiever but their cousins/siblings are higher achievers because then the comparisons start. Eg. Oh she got a "A" why did you only get a "B"?.

2) Parents favouring boy over girl is one of the biggest faults in our society. Its like the boy is allowed to do as he pleases but if the girl even wants to go out with friends etc its made into a big deal. Obviously this will cause the girl to distance herself in the long run. As a result she might look outside the household for the affection etc she wants from her folks.

3) The desi thinking of the girl having to do the housework whilst the boy does nothing is also a fault in our parents because it pushes the child away and our parents don't ever seem to accept that they might be in the wrong.

4) If the parents are going to treat the kids as above then the kids are most likely to rebel and therefore won't go gurdwara sahib; listen to their parents about Sikhi but saying that most folks seems to have got culture and religion mixed into 1 when that's not the case. Religion and culture are two different things.

Mafi for sounding bias; just pointing out stuff from observation. Guru kirpa :D

One major weakness, in my opinion, is the way they raise kids in the west to be adults that don't know how to spell parenting.

Seems trivial, but if you consider how their Hindu peers win every international spelling competition going and their muslim peers, even though they are of supposed low educational standard, are able to stand on speakers corner and quote the likes of Nietzsche and Descartes at will.......We are generally, without doubt, the thickos of the bunch.
