Should Matha Tekhna be done for parents or just for SGGS

Full matha teekna is only reserved for Sri guru Granth sahib ji.

However there is similar tradition called "piarey pehna" (touching feet) not same as matha taekna but sometime western born/brought ppl confuse between these two things. Piarey paena is a malwa tradition... where younger generation shows humble respect towards elder person by touching a knee and elder person givesa small thapi (pat). I have a habit of doing this as I lived in malwa region for few years.

Mattha tekna (bowing) is exclusively done to Guru Granth Sahibji.

Rest all like bowing even before pictures of Sikkh Gurus, elders, rubbing nose against walls & platforms held sacred are all contrary to Gurmat.

Check you out, Malwa traditionalist. 'Pairi pena' is an indian tradition. I have hindu friends who also touch the feet of their elders. Now it is just knees though. I am from Doaba and we also have the same thing. We also do pairi pena.

You are right that bowing is reserved for Guru ji only and peri pena is for elders.

Doabay does that too? I wasn't aware of that... I know pairey paina is not too popular in majha region.

All of India has this. In hindi they say "Paye Lagoo" or something.

And the Bombay people......and the Calcutta people....and the Madras people.....and the Gujarati people.......and the doaba people.....and the majha people etc etc ?

Its the historical culture and tradition of all of us, with its roots firmly implanted in Hindu culture. THAT.....is why I have never done it, never do and never will. I was very little when my parents told me not to bother with it as it means nothing to us Sikhs others than showing others and giving impression to others that you respect your elders. I was taught that the best thing for us Sikhs is to actually do things that give respect to your elders rather than meaningless rituals and gestures. Its a tradition and culture which is totally compatible with Hinduism but is totally incompatible with Sikhism.

100% bro NO ONE does this in our family, but i noticed it in panjabi film (especially in Harbhajan Maan films), and i asked my thaiya ji wat "pehri pehn" means, he says its 2 show respect 2 ur elders by touchin there feet, and added its bakwaas. Then i realised that as sikhs we dont bow our heads infront of NO ONE, not even ur parents, ONLY infront of our Guru. Thats Why When the 2 smaller sahibzadas were executed in sirhind, when they approached a small flap/swinging door leading to wazir khans court, u have 2 bend down 2 get inside/thru the flap. But the sahibzadas realised this would mean they were bowing their heads 2 him, n instead they went in backwards, with their backsides showing first!!
