Dear Sangat Ji

My understanding is that it is not acceptable in Sikhi for Sri Guru Granth Sahib to be bought to a house for an anand karaj ceremony and then for there to be a party (with meat and alcohol) at the same residence.

Such a wedding is planned for mid-September at a residence near West London.

If this is an issue, do you recommend that I raise it with the family?

Vaheguru Vaheguru. That is ridiculous! What blessings will the family receive from Guru Ji's visit? The Gurdwara Sahib committee should say listen, Guru Ji will come if you never bring alcohol and meat into the house again!

Anyway, this is totally wrong!!

If the matter persists and no solution is obtained, kindlymessage Daas the date of the Paath, the Gurdwara Sahib name and the address of the home.

You can't really control what happens in someone's private residence, but the giani and ragi jatha performing the Anand Karaj should be held responsible for ensuring the family are made aware of the beadbi. Also the local Gurdwara committee need to get off their backsides and take a lead in ensuring satkaar in their area. What you don't want is a protest outside someone's private residence because the Police may treat that as intimidation.

There is nothing wrong in doing Anand Karaj at home, but the Gurdwara that gives the saroop should pay a pre-program visit to give the house a once-over.

This may be a different topic, but our local gurdwara refuses to perform Anand Karaj for anyone who doesnt have a wedding certificate. This kind of action leads to people having the saroop and doing Anand Karaj in their own homes.

I was planning on having an anand karaj in a marquee in a park.

However it is against AKAL TAKHT 2006 sandesh for an anand Karaj to take place outside Gurdwara. (google this)

Please raise immediately with Gurdwara.

I would suggest raising this issue with the family in question but make sure you have resources present that back what you say and also approach the matter with them with pyare & not anger etc. Explain to them why what they have planned is wrong etc do it in a calm and approachable manner. If they don't listen then get gurdwara committee involved and alerted about the situation. It might be that the family aren't aware that they are doing wrong (as daft it sounds). If these methods fail only then get others involved as it could just be a matter of the family not been educated enough to know this is wrong etc. But at all times if you talk to them keep calm&talk pyare naal. Best of luck je. Ps: what I have suggested is only how I would personally approach such matter so mafi if I have said anything wrong. Guru kirpa.

Anand Karaj can only be at a Gurdwara

Can anyone put up the SriAkal Takht SAhib sandesh, i would like to read it again.

re doing weddings at gurdwaras only, this was a move to stop Guru Saroop going to party halls, or palaces or clubs etc, where previously suchamta was not encouraged. This is understandable, but i know of a Sikh couple who had to do Anand Karaj at home cos the local gurdwara wouldnt ablige them.

It doesn't matter where maharaj is, in a marquee or at a home, that place becomes a gurdwara. So you people are saying you cannot get married at home only in a gurdwara, but as long as you are in hazoori of maharaj, you are in a gurdwara,( gurughar, gurus home etc.)

Therefore it is NOT ok under ANY circumstances to bring meat alocohol or have a 'party' in such a place. If you bring maharaj into your home consider you are bringing the king of kings the emporor of emoprors, the lord of the universe into your home, your home should become a sachkandh itself meaning you must keep the highest level of sucham.

If you want a 'wedding' with a party with alcohol and meat consider why you are being married in fornt of maharaj at all, you clearly have no respect for maharaj's asools and rehit so what makes you think it ok for you to do parkarama of maharaj. I would reccomend getting married in a registry office or a church.

If you have any sense of moraltiy, you should bring up this issue with the family and if the do not take notice inform singhs who can only resort to physically removing maharaj from such kaljug.

    • If relationship with Guru is strong, then kanga is done twice a day, and turban should never be taken off or put on like a hat, there is a lot wrong with that as it is against rehit! maryada is to take off every layer of turban/pagh/dumalla individually, and tie fresh turban each time!
    • the whole 'your husband/wife is chosen for you'/sanjog thing is real, it's just that a lot of people end up marrying the wrong person. they did not end up with the person that was meant for them. my friend, you should marry someone who you feel a connection with and love. there are millions of sikh girls, i'm sure you can find someone who aligns with your sensibilities and who you can truthfully say that you love. sikhi does not say anything against love marriages. you can also be in a loveless arranged marriage which is a safe option b/c both families are more inclined to keep the union intact. i was one of those people who was like meh, i guess i'll just get arranged to some sikh. well i finally started dating for the first time this year and i'm getting married to someone that i love and cannot even imagine leaving. i think it's better to have lost & lost than never loved at all. unfortunately, a lot of people confuse love w/ looks & lust. a lot of men go for the fittest girl they can find and think they won the jackpot or something. in reality, your partner should be like an extremely loved best friend. there's a reason why it's a fact that the most stable and long-lasting relationships started as friendships.  i also think a lot of women are petty and divorce over small reasons, but there's other terrible things like high cheating rates as well. that's why the divorce rate in the west is high. be careful out there.
    • andrew tate praises sikhi too & likes sikhs. his brother also donated to sikh families iirc. they just like any "alpha" religion and tbh islam is the most "alpha" in their eyes. islam is very good at promoting that image. but imo a real alpha man doesn't command respect by beating up his wive(s) or forcing them to wear a burqa. a real man will have his woman listen to him w/o raising a hand or his voice, and command respect by being respectful. he leads by example and integrity. that's true masculinity. you get the idea. + yes, it's definitely true that islam is growing rapidly and making massive inroads. strength in numbers + belief will do that. but rlly it's just because of the birth rate. a lot of them are muslim b/c it's their "identity" just like how a lot of young sikhs will say they're "culturally sikh" or whatever. there just aren't billions of sikhs who lambast their identity everywhere and have strict and linear rules like in islam. besides, the reality is that islam and its followers are some of the most morally bankrupt. you can see all the weird trans rules in iran, bacche baazi in afghanistan, visiting brothels, watching p*rn, p*dophilia what goes on behind the scenes in countries like uae & qatar, etc, and come to your conclusions. you can google all the stats yourself and see which countries do the most of these ^.
    • stop associating with hinduism, that's the absolutely worst thing you can do as a sikh. not sure if you noticed but the entire world looks down upon and spits at india & hindus, literally no one respects them and considers them weak and cowardly. literally 1+ billion of them but not perceived as a strong religion commandeering respect.
    • you wrote a whole lot but told us nothing. what exactly did you do wrong to make you feel this way?
