Police using spam calls with ISD code +92 to implicate Sikh leader under Unlawful Activities (P) Act

Ludhiana (September 27, 2012): The matter of detention of Daljit Singh Bittu, former president of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani has taken another turn. Today police produced Daljit Singh in the court of Ludhiana magistrate Mr. Ashish Thathai and demanded further custody to investigate the calls from phone numbers starting with +92, ISD code of Pakistan. Police alleged that Daljit Singh was in constant contact with others in Pakistan as they have found a number of calls from ISD code (+92) of Pakistan. SHO Nirmal Singh of Division No. 5 police station insisted that they need further custody of Daljit Singh to investigate his links with Paksitan.

Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, Advo. Gurmeet Singh Rattu and Advo. Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, who represented Daljit Singh in the court today, informed that Police produced a list of around 30 to 40 calls from ISD code +92 on Daljit Singh’s mobile number. Most of these calls were “missed calls” and only two or three of them were “received calls” or “call backs” and that too for very limited period of duration.

Daljit Singh’s counsels told the court that this list does not mean anything because it is a widely known and officially acknowledged fact that these fake calls with ISD code +92 are linked with lottery scams or spam callers.

“We told the court that even BSNL Offices had issued alerts to subscribers — particularly about the numbers starting with +92, #90 or #09 — saying that calling the number back after a missed call may make a user susceptible to SIM card cloning.” informed Advocate Harpal Singh.

Similar alert was also issued by AirTel, a company whose number was in used with Daljit Singh, and other telecom companies.

Even Daljit Singh personally told the court that he accidentally picked such a call and there was an automated message that his number had won some lottery. “As I had never applied for such a lottery, I realised that it was a fake call and I disconnected it” Daljit Singh reportedly told the Court.

Despite our all opposition and arguments the Magistrate has extended the custody of Daljit Singh for two more days till 29th of September, he told media.

He alleged that Daljit Singh was being unduly harassed by Punjab police due to political reasons.

“This is an attempt to crush the dissenting political ideology of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani” added Advocate Cheema, who is also Senior-Vice President of Panch Pardhani.

Meanwhile, it is further learnt that Daljit Singh complained custodial torture. Counsels of Daljit Singh today informed that court that he was subjected to physical and mental torture by the police during police custody.

“We have moved an application to get Daljit Singh examined by a board of medical officers and doctor and further urged the court to take necessary steps to prevent Bhai Daljit Singh’s custodial torture” Advocate J. S. Manjhpur informed.

“The court has admitted the matter and issued notices to the relevant authorities” he added. It is notable that was Daljit Singh booked for “waging war against the State” and various other offences under Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (P) Act, Arms Act and Explosives Act. It is learnt that Arms Act and Explosive Act was lashed on Daljit Singh without any recovery. Police has termed the books and magazines duly published under law as “anti-national” literature to lash UA(P)A in this case.

(1) AirTel’s alters regarding fake calls from ISD code +92 reads as:

“We would like to issue a general advisory to caution Indian telecom customers who are being arbitrarily targeted by calls fraudulently claiming the recipient customer as being a Prize/Lottery Winner.

In these types of phone frauds, the customer returns a missed call to a +92 or +375 country code and inadvertently reaches a fraudster pretending to be representative of airtel or another Indian mobile operator and informs the customer of having won some lottery/prize money. The fraudster then attempts to trick the customer into divulging sensitive personal information and to pay a commission to receive the winnings. Such commission is usually asked to be paid via an international DTH operator’s recharge vouchers”.

Next time if you get a missed call starting with +92; #90 or #09, don’t show the courtesy of calling back. BSNL has issued alerts to subscribers — particularly about the series mentioned above — saying that calling the number back after a missed call may make a user susceptible to SIM card cloning. (3) News report as regards Vodafone Alert:

Vodafone has cautioned its customers against unidentified calls originating from Pakistan. “At Vodafone we care for your security. If you receive a missed call from an unidentified number starting with +92, do not call back or divulge any personal details,” reads an SMS sent out to Vodafone customers. (+92 is Pakistan’s international direct dialing code).

Surprisingly when Panthic Singhs from all over Punjab were picked up during the Rajoana strike a few months ago, it is worth noting that Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma and some other prominent Sants(Baba Hari Singh Randhawa) who have links with the Akalis were not arrested, while Panthic Sants like Daduwal were arrested and let go only after Singhs cooled down.

well done for noting which sant is panthic minded and who has been arrested. Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma at present and for many weeks, has been at Sri Darbar Sahib helping with the construction of the 84 remembrance Gurdwara.

If it does not sink in still, nobody is stopping panthic bodies abroad to go to india- enligthen the sants from sant samaj..i am sure they will appreciate our "enlightenment".

Rights Organization moves US Embassy over Barapind's "Police Torture"

Jalandhar: The issue of arrest and alleged torture of SGPC member and SAD (Panch Pardhani) President Kulbir Singh Barapind in Punjab police custody has now reached to US Embassy in India.

Rights organizations Ensaaf has contacted the US Embassy in Delhi holding that it has an ongoing obligation to monitor Barapind's safety under the terms of his extraditionto India. "The Embassy is aware of its ongoing commitment and is inquiring into the situation," said Ensaaf co-director Sukhman Dhami adding " the organization received credible information about his torture".

It may be mentioned here that on Wednesday Barapind's counsel moved an application in a Phillaur court alleging that he revealed that he was given electric shocks so he should be examined by a board of doctors. The application is pending for an order.

"Ensaaf represented Barapind in his application for relief from extradition under the Convention Against Torture. Despite presenting significant evidence that Barapind was more likely than not to be tortured, the U.S. extradited him after obtaining diplomatic assurances from India that it would not torture Barapind," the rights organizations said in a statement.

He was booked and arrested last week under Explosives Act, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, Sedition, Conspiracy and Arms act even as no explosives could be recovered from him. He was linked to a four month old recovery of RDX three days after his arrest after police failed to find any new explosives. Even the claim of recovering seditious literature from him has also come under question mark as the literature labelled as seditious is freely available and no publication has been proscribed.

Barapind was extradited from US in 2006 and a US court which allowed his extradition permitted his trial only in three case and he was acquitted in all the three.

Bittu using Canada links to revive terrorism: Police

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Police, under pressure from human rights watch group over the dramatic arrest of a Ludhiana-based radical Sikh leader Daljit Singh alias Bittu, has defended his custody through an FIR which mentions his plans to revive terrorist activities in the country.

Daljit Singh, former president Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani), was arrested from his residence in Gurdev Nagar in Ludhiana on September 21 along with Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) president Kulbir Singh Barapind.

"The representatives of Bittu and Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) met at Surrey in Canada in the second week of September, where they planned to revive terrorist activities in the country," reads the FIR, a copy of which is with TOI.

Bittu and Barapind had earlier been slapped with sedition charges. Their arrests had caused a concern among various human rights groups and other panthic organizations in the state.

The FIR, which has been filed by Inspector Nirmal Singh, however does not mention any seizure of explosive material at Bittu's residence. While pointing out his relations with the wanted leaders in Punjab, including those from BKI, Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) and Khalistan Tiger Force, it also does not mention the methods of communication used.

"Since January 2011, activists and supporters of BKI and KZF settled abroad have sent more than Rs 1 crores to Daljit Singh's associates through hawala channels and he has made several sleeper cells of terrorist across the country," it reads further. "There is creditable information that he has made plans along with Wadhawa Singh of BKI, Ranjit Singh aka Neeta of KZF and Jagtar Singh Tara of KTF to revive terrorist activities and assist some of the inmates lodged in Nabha jail to escape," the FIR adds.

BKI chief Wadhawa Singh is believed to be hiding in Pakistan. KTF supremo Tara is wanted by investigation agencies after his escape from Model Burail Jail here in January 2004.

But what has Baba Harnam Singh done in this case and all the rest? You cannot pick and choose in Sikhism on making a stand on injustice. There is a pattern developing on which sikhs and organisations make a stand against injustice.

no but you can do it in different ways, as 5th Guru showed us by peacefully accepting shaheedi, whereas 6th Guru showed us by taking the sword. Repeated for 9th and 10th Guru.

All the Sikh Guru Sahibs made an equal stand against injustice at all times, strange you are splitting some of the Gurus Sahibs out.

We have attrocities going on against Sikhs on a frequent basis and organisations that would have straight away come out and condemened such actions are staying quiet as they are being controlled by Indian political organisations. Many have siad the only reason why these attrocities keep happening is that the Sikhs instead of thinking about the Panth are sorting out their own deals, whether its political, financial or both.

No arrests , shooting dead of youth, appointment of mass killers of Sikhs would take place if all the Jathebandhis came out and denounced what is happening.

Do we have an update on the 84 memorial, design, what will be included, will it display properly what happened?
