What good for is Gambling? What benefits it got? Will it give you Satisfaction?

No, it is just "Maya" worldly goods, nothing from these will stay with you in the end . This The first lines Of Jap Ji Sahib tell us:

Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯ nām karṯā purakẖ nirbẖa▫o nirvair akāl mūraṯ ajūnī saibẖaʼn gur parsāḏ.

One Universal Creator God. The Name Is Truth. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying, Beyond Birth, Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace ~

Chant And Meditate:

Āḏ sacẖ jugāḏ sacẖ.

True In The Primal Beginning. True Throughout The Ages.

Hai bẖī sacẖ Nānak hosī bẖī sacẖ. ||1||

True Here And Now. O Nanak, Forever And Ever True. ||1||

By thinking, He cannot be reduced to thought, even by thinking hundreds of thousands of times.

Cẖupai cẖup na hova▫ī je lā▫e rahā liv ṯār.

By remaining silent, inner silence is not obtained, even by remaining lovingly absorbed deep within.

The hunger of the hungry is not appeased, even by piling up loads of worldly goods.

Hundreds of thousands of clever tricks, but not even one of them will go along with you in the end.

Kiv sacẖi▫ārā ho▫ī▫ai kiv kūrhai ṯutai pāl.

So how can you become truthful? And how can the veil of illusion be torn away?

Hukam rajā▫ī cẖalṇā Nānak likẖi▫ā nāl. ||1||

O Nanak, it is written that you shall obey the Hukam of His Command, and walk in the Way of His Will. ||1||

I need help becuz 1 of my close buddy has a gambling addiction, plus hes getting me into it too ! Wutts some good advice and what does sikhi have to say about gambling ?

Thanks in advance

Best advice is to sttick to roulette and use method of cumulative betting. If your rich and have the bankroll you will always win !!

Seriously it's a problem not to be laughed at.

We can't give you any real advice on how he can deal with it here, but there are plenty of helplines and websites to help run by professionals.

Gambling is playing with your money. If it's hard earned then that makes the playing worse.

If it's his parents money that he's using then that itself is morally wrong.

He needs to realise he WILL lose and come out worse. No gambler ever comes out better, even if they think they can beat the system.

The bani tells us that money earned lawfully and rightly should be shared among us. To be playing with it, so as to make a fast buck is not a correct and moral way of earning.

He needs to get out of this problem until it's too late. Most gamblers only realise they had a problem when it's too late and not much can be done at that stage.

  • 3 weeks later...

It takes about 2 weeks to break a habbit see if he can stop doing it for a month, it will be instinctive one way is by actually loosing your cash and seeing the homeless who gambled everything away, also calculating the actual chance of winning in many instances and chances are you are going to loose more than you win that's how the industry keeps going it's profit based.

If it's the rewarding part of it that makes it worth while start doing things which are more rewarding like painting, art, building, construction, plumbing something where you can look back and be pleased with the work you did or start by getting a job realising how hard it is to even earn a penny let alot wasting it away with silly gambling. If he is really getting you into it than for your own sake you need a new friend and start spending more time with them or focus on your studies, career or work in driving yourself forward there, gambling ain't worth it- lives are lost, families are lost. It's too much hassle with no reward, more to lose then win.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
