Centre to discuss Blue Star memorial with Punjab

Thursday, October, 04 2012 - 16:11

NEW DELHI: The controversial issue of building a memorial at the Golden Temple premises for those who were killed by the Army in Operation Blue Star has been proposed to be taken up for discussion by a team of Ministry of Home Affairs with those concerned in Punjab, the sources have revealed.

Home ministry is considering sending a team to the state to learn about the views of the various sides concerned with the matter, it has been learnt.

Following an attack on Lt Gen (Retd) Kuldip Singh Brar in London and his subsequent criticism of the proposed memorial which is currently under-construction at the Golden Temple complex, the debate on the building of a memorial has got renewed.

After his return to India, Brar, who spearheaded Operation Blue Star to flush out the terrorists holed up in the Temple complex, raised objections on the Punjab government’s intentions in allowing the building of a memorial for those who were killed in the Operation. He had also questioned Centre’s silence on the matter saying a state subject is not a state subject when it affects national security and unity.

if the indian govt get away with interering in this matter, they will be able to do anything in the Gurdwaras. It our business and our business only.

One way we MUST counter this, is for every possible Gurdwara in the western world to have their own 84 remembrance memorial.

It would be a good thing because even here people are forgettting about 1984.

Great idea.

Great idea. Can we actually bring this before our gurdwara committees somehow?

I think this is a very doable thing, and if the PR is done properly, then we can invite news people to the inauguration of the memorials.

Maybe we could start of designing some sort of universal logo about 84 in the same manner as the 300 Saal Guru De Naal logo. Each and every Gurdwara should display it outside. It should be clear and something that becomes familiar. Obvious and easy to remember.

Once other people start to see it, theres a chance they might think what is this 84 thing about and decide to find out. But that also means we need to have all the relevant material available should some one want to find out more. There should be an offical website for it, a dot org if thats possible.

Just a small idea to get the ball rolling on educating people.

Anybody on here majored in Architecture?

Can you tell us what is feesable, and what is not?

Do you guys think it's a good idea to have a design contest, here on Sikh Sangat?

This way we can have a massive brainstorm and come up with ideas and concepts that would work best.

It's better if we go to our committees with a plan already in place. If not, then they may start fighting each other over design ideas, and then this will never get off the ground.

Like this comment if anyone is interested.
