To be fair, a few thugs did come out and take advantage who were not black cats. They previously were thugs and used the guise of kharkoo Singhs to do robberies, but not really killings.

Most of the killings were orchestrated by indian police/central government. They got hindus to grow out beards and wear turbans and go into villages and commit atrocities All of these things are on record and can be cited if anyone would like them.

Central government effectively turned this into a hindu-Sikh conflict, when in fact it was a Sikh (overall Punjabi) civil rights movement and autonomy/freedom movement against corruption.

They call a Sikh biased but when a Hindu writes about "Hindu-genocide of Punjab at the hands of Sikhs," with no solid proof backing him up than that is total fact. World's largest hypocrisy, and world's largest hypocrites.

This is exactly why people should promote the book "The Gallant Defender". It is written by a HINDU magistrate and totally clears Sant ji's name of all of the allegations against him and lays the blame for 84 squarely at the feet of the government. So this book carries that magic combination that usually convinces even stupid people: a Hindu writer, of high position (that reflects the ability to delve deep into an issue), and something to lose by speaking the truth.

The book was banned for sometime, not sure of its status now. You can find the entire book online for free by googling its name. Please spread knowledge of this book to educate people.
