Chinese Swords Beware !

It's better to buy bladed Indian Shastars direct from India. Dont trust chinese made Shastars. Poor quality. If you have the money buy it from the Nihangs. The Singhs at Ratowal also make some good quality Shastars.

Ratoval is a pretty decent place...The prices are honest...

Just because they're Chinese it doesn't mean they're inferior quality to other blades worldwide.

A chinese Katana for 200-500 dollars would be battle ready and 10000x better than anything offered from India.

It's ironic that India exports the best steel, but they don't offer top of the line shastar anymore.

The only better katana than a 200-500 well made Chinese katana is a tamishigiri quality katana made out of tamahagane by a real katana maker from Japan which ranges anywhere from 10,000-50,000 USD.

Taksali kirpans and the Amritsar Nihang kirpans are good for what they're meant for, but they are very very basic means of making them. They are nothing special in terms of metallurgy and neither is the steel quality.

For Chinese katanas it all depends on who you buy from. Some will be cheap mass quality and some will be decent and some will be good quality. Nothing will match tamishigiri quality katanas from Japan.
