The Akal Takht chief, Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, today asked "Sikhs occupying high posts" to introspect in the light of the court verdict acquitting Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a riots case.

In a statement, the Jathedar said; " Sikhs, who are at the helm of affairs, and have deliberately shut their eyes, should wake up to the reality and put an end to the injustice meted out to the community."

He also directed the Punjab Government, the SGPC and the DSGMC to take the battle up to the apex court and bring the guilty to book. He termed the court verdict as "grave injustice" to the Sikh community.

Activists of the Sikh Students' Federation (Mehta) held a protest march against the court verdict. The protesters, led by the federation's district unit chief Amarbir Singh Dhot, burnt the effigy of the UPA chairperson.

Addressing the protesters, Dhot alleged successive Congress governments at the Centre had shielded the perpetrators of the anti-Sikh riots and rewarded them with important posts.

Did anyone watch the Sikh Channel yesterday? There were these two Gurdwara pardhans interviewed, one was from Ealing Sikh Centre and the other one was from Hounslow Gurdwara. They gave some good facts and their views were interesting up to a point until the interviewer asked why isn't Manmohan Singh doing anything on the Sajjan Kumar issue? Then they totally did an about face and claimed-;

1. Manmohan Singh has no power, he will get blocked by his cabinet if he does anything to help the Sikhs

2. He is the PM of all of India, not just the Sikhs (this is totally laughable)

The interviewer then asked why then does he not resign. The instant retort was-;

1. What will Sikhs get out of him resigning

2. Him being PM is giving the Sikhs a high profile around the world

This shows that the Gurdwara pardhans are not on the same page as the Sangat. I have yet to come across a Sikh who has defended MMS. Most would not be bothered if the Indian govt removed him. What the Pardhans do not realise is that just as him being PM may give Sikhs a high profile, him being the PM also makes the human rights abuse of Sikhs more difficult for us to present to govts abroad because they invariable say, but the PM is a Sikh.

If MMS suddenly gets his ankh back and somehow threatens to resign unless a SIT like in the Gujerat riots case is set for the victims of 1984, it would cause a serious embarrassment for the Indian system. The stock market would likely lose 300 points in a few minutes as foreign companies reassess whether they should invest in India.

one thing we have to understand is manmohan singh is not a sikh he is a congress party secularist atheist believer. He knows if he gives up the immoral unethical indian political system he and his family wont have the same power and luxarious lifestyle they have the same thing is with the badals and captain amrindar singh. The akal takht jathedhar is inept but trys his best only when enough pressure is applied to make him take a stand otherwise he is under the control of cowardly crooked sly politicians like punjabs badal and sgpc cheif makker

What sikhs need to understand is a REAL sikh leader is one who has suffered in his/her life and takes action for the benefit for the Sikh community. Manmohan singh can if he wanted to make a speech and say his conscious does not permit him to continue as PM of india with such injustice against a minority community that im from. But no he doesn't and it is clear he is not a Sikh he just does his bit to show he is a Sikh to keep the heat of sonia gandhi (foreign born Italian) until her son is able to take her place.

We need to ensure all our energies now goes towards credible Sikh leaders who talk and fight for azaadi thats only way Sikhs stand a chance out of the mafia run corrupt indian system

Spot-on. Manmohan Singh has done great things for India (his economic reforms which ended the Licence Raj for one which, you could argue, precipitated the economic growth India is enjoying). But as a Sikh his record is sadly lacking. I'm not surprised.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
