Do We Need A Mediator To Understand Gurbani

i HUMBLY disagree with harsharan 000.,the Brahminicals in connivance with the ruling class (kshatriyas )conspired to keep the knowledge away from the ruling class .It has been evident from the tales of ramayana & mahabharata (shambook and the likes ) where the so called shudras were not tolerated for trying to attain moksha . it was said that it the people who are not considered fit for bhakti &moksha ( vaishyas & shudras)should not even listen to the gyan , and if found to be doing same their ears be filled with molten lead .

Our gurus very kindly made the same Gyan available to us in the language which could be understood by us all . Only we should spare some time to read & understand . For any shabad just start with the lines with Rahao (having central idea of the shabad )and try to understand the full shabad keeping the rahao tuk in mind , every thing becomes clear by trying one , two or three times .

Dear brother Jasvendrasingh, first of all, you have the full right to disagree with me.

Now let us pause for a while, and see from the other side, have we ever asked ourselves, what is the purpose of the Bani, left by our Guru Sahibans?

Well, though the answer is very clear, it is a practical manual instruction, for God realization. It is not epic text books like Ramayana or Mahabharata, or Geeta, or Vedas or Bible, or Koran...just to name a few.

But, let us ask ourselves, sincerely..... how many of us do we follow what is said in the Bani? We may recite it like parrots all the 24 hours... we may know by heart each "tuk of the Bani, each and every single word written in it.... That is nothing great in it.

The thing is, forget the whole Bani, which could be asking much maybe, but if we had understood just the begining with the "mool mantra" , our lives had been going now in the direction of Akal Purukh, but alas, sorry, we are very much manmukhs yet.

We are very much entangled in those things which are bonds around our necks, and for which we are very much proud also, to the extent that we are ready to die and kill....

What for? None of them shall we carry with us there, neither shall we need them there. The only wealth, which we can take with us as per the Bani, is the wealth of Nam...but for that, nobody cares, and behaves, like they are going to stay here forever.

Sadhoos, babas, priests, devis, devtas also can not even understand the pure paviter Bani...had they understood by themselves, they would had gained freedom, and would had been with Akal Purukh by now.

You see, only they will understand, whom He wants to understand, because only they will then follow implicitly as Sat Bachan, the Bani.

They will love and adore the Bani, they will not care, for what the world, society or community will say by slandering them ....they will find all means to achieve what is said in the Bani.

The purity, the Truth, the bliss reffered in the Bani, is not gained just by mere reading, or even understanding, but by putting into action, what is written in it.

And in simple words, it says:"Ik Onkar, Satgur Parsad"

This is the essence of the whole of the Bani, the essence of the teachings of any true Gurmukh of any time, of any place.

As these Gurmukhs do not come to create any new religion nor dharam...for them Satnam is the only Truth, Satnam is the only religion, which is realized by His Gurparsad of Nam. This is Gurmat.

May Wahiguru bless us all with His daya meher, so that we may become fit, to understand and follow the Bani.

Dear jasvendrasingh jee,

Well, it all depends on who likes, needs or does not mind comments. These type of comments, by themselves do no harm to anybody.

Each and everyone is free on taking it or not.

This is a free world. Nobody should force anything on anybody, nor expect even to be accepted by all ...this is what I have seen and learnt from life after a long interaction with the characterless human beings ...who do not even spare the mahapurukhs....

The thing is, as you say, that there is no need to comments if one does not reach anywhere by reading or listening to so many sants...

That is true, because mere words, mere intentions, do not take anyone anywhere, as long as you do not act upon what you hear and learn.

Just by saying food or listening water, water ....will not quench your hunger neither your thirst...until you yourself, do not eat that food from the plate, or drink the water from your glass ...and this applies not only with you, or me, but with each and every soul who wants transformation, who wants the realization of the divine.

It is practice of action that counts. It is practice of Nam that counts alone.

All our Guru Sahibans, and all the true Gurmukhs from all over, stressed on Nam bhakti alone.

Read the Bani from any Ang, from left to right, from up to down, or viceversa ..... it is only mahima of Nam that one finds.

And then let us look at ourselves, how many of us sincerely follow this Gurmat implicitly. I think "kotan meh kot", some "virley jeevas", some wadbhagee only....

The rest of us are bound with many, many other things .... It is not being discussed here, if they are good or bad, or necessary, or anything alike...

Only the base teachings of Gurmat are being highlighted, which is sole love and devotion at the Lotus Feet of Wahiguru Akal Purukh alone.

But as Wahiguru is Nirankara, how to please Him and manifest Him within us?

Well, for that the Bani says: Har Simran meh Prabh aap Nirankara. Means, in spite of Wahiguru being formless, colourless, He has hidden Himself in His simran.... Again the Bani says: Jin Har japeeya seh Har hoeeya, means, whosoever meditates on Him by his Simran, becomes Him.

You see, the Bani constantly repeats, that by doing the practice of His simran only, can we become Him. The Bani does not say, eat this, drink this, wear this, go here, do this so many times, read this , light this .....nothing of these things.....this is all man made, though these things have been presented to us in a subtle way as our very own sikh identity... we have thus been deluded, to the extent we do not reason and try to see any logic, but we even fight with those who do not act like us, we see them as strangers, as intruders, as enemies in our community.

On the other side, those who have supported and devloped all this paraphernalia, are taken as heros ...

This world is made like that... where the truth is taken as poison, and the poison is taken as amrit... This is not only within our own sikh community, but it has been happening from Aad Jugad with all the humans of any age, of any time, country or creed ...there is no cure for it.

Unless He Himself wants to make you believe in His Bani.

Millions of us read the Bani regularly with faith, and follow our traditions, but tell me, how many of us do understand what is written in it?

The Bani is so pure, so high, that even if one single Shabad of it, goes inside you, it is suffice to change one´s whole point of view, it is suffice to bring that change for betterment in oneself...because it is now when one is really walking towards Wahiguru.

It is not bad to remind each other, hey what are you doing here? Do not waste your time, your life...

Do something useful(Nam Simran) to return to our Father´s house.

He is awaiting with His arms wide open, for whosoever wants to return, by understanding and practicing what the Bani says...

And the Bani simply says: Saas saas simroh Gobind. You need not do anything else, apart from this spiritual practice of His Simran.

As all other things, will engage one in karmas, and they maybe good karmas even, but it is only His Simran, which frees us from all bondages.

Others are left, until they get tired and exhausted from this illusory creation .... where only pain, misery, falsehood or untruth prevails.

If you are attuned with your intuitive divine guidance consciousness/inner voice within (very rare to find) which guides you through in experience (during sehaj patt, gurbani vichar not conceptually or intellectually but actual gurbani contemplation in experience) then you don't need a mediator (its very rare) but if you are not then you need mediator which is meant to help to go introvert and explore gurbani within experience.

Another inspiring post Harsharan jee ! :biggrin2:

My benti to all the young and upcoming sikhs is to please do naam simran and jap whatever you can even if it's just a few minutes a day.

Just like the fields can't flourish without water, we also can't flourish as spiritual risers and raise our consciousness without japping his name.

WaheGuru WaheGuru WaheGuru Waheguru WaheGuru WaheGuru

Correctly stated !

I would just like to add that one may read and learn as much as possible by self analysis and contemplation and have some good level of knowledge. However, I believe that when one starts doing all practically and with contemplation of every breath, then for the majority there will come the necessity for association with the right Sangat and a guide that is usually someone who has progressed on the same path and has the gian from all varying angles.

    • We have lamp (or Jyot) the pure unscented candle for a reason. Traditionally, Patis used candle light (jyot), so they could read SGGS in darkness. Light, elec didn't exist. Dhoop is used to attract the "Good spirits" but also keep freshness where Maharaj will be.  Interestingly and coincidentally I heard Sakhi a few dsys ago. During Dasa Pitha's time these souls were roaming the Earth and even Sangat noticed. Maharaj asked them "y u here?" They replied during recitation of SGGS and making Degh they didn't bother lighting candle. THAT WAS THEE ONLY REASON NO GATI WAS GIVEN TO THEM!!!  AUTHENTICITY NOT CHECKED I heard once on YT like 2 days ago.  If u apply dhoop in one room of your house twice a week u will notice a difference esp in the smell and freshness of that room.
    • Sangat ji, With the hot weather as per Guru's Hukm, how can we look after our kes?  First of all the beard! Working in Construction, factory and any other heated environment I UNDERSTAND! At my workplace it's over 32 degree celcius and sometimes we have to lift 20kg ALL! DAY! My tips, regularly shampoo the beard during ishnan. APPLY OIL! The technique of applying oil is by rubbing it thoroughly in the roots. Pay attention to the noise esp on the chin. You will hear this "crosh crosh" noise. Keep rubbing oil until u can't hear it no more! This means the oil has blended in properly.  Second tip on beard, keep an extra kanga in your pocket. Every two, three hours give your beard a proper comb down to get rid of any sweat or stickiness. SECOND BENEFIT! Do this all 12 months every single day your beard will look like it's been professionally groomed. TRY IT! People will ask you "What gel u use? How can yer beard be naturally like that?" You can say all I use is coconut oil or whaeva oil but just comb the beard every 2-3 hours for a minute.  As for the kes, morning time get rid of all the gronjra (or knots - forgotten English word), in the morning. However, during evening comb down make sure you get rid of small remaining gronjra and comb yer hair nice and straight. You will feel soooo so relaxed. Yes our hair will go unnoticed due to Dastar, but our hair demands time and self grooming! So proper combing down, spending a good 15-20 mins most evenings is an absolute MUST!  Most evenings I let my hair down and cover hair with my parna for 2-3 hours so it gets to relax from the tying up.  FINAL TIP! We are Sikhs so we keep fighting and remember this! The tradition of Dastar and uncut hair started in India, where the weather is twice as hot. Everytime we bring this thought in the mind, Guru ji will bless us and make us feel cooled down by a notch.  Fateh.
    • Been so much nindya and attacking Shastarvidiya since the 2000s, however if we look at gatka now it's still mostly as poor and poorly taught as it was back then, still morris dancing moves and still behzti moves in BBC shows about sikhi and vaisakhi. If people were going to attack shastarvidiya, wouldn't have made sense to improve gatka instead and make it more effective? Additionally, the Nihang Singh presence has improved greatly now, and the cracks within the the SGPC and affiliated jatha jathebandis are showing more greatly as panth becomes more knowledgable with dasam bani and itihas day-by-day, so much gyaan which was lost within panjabi sikhs during colonial times. In the 2000s, the groups were able to talk down this bani and  gyaan by associating it with  RSS and hindus, brahminwaad etc. Not working so well now is it? However with gyaan it would be also good for us to try and preserve our martial arts and keertan vidiya as well! More and more crazy keertan videos are coming out from jatha members that are being made fun of and making sangat annoyed and upset, on tiktok and instagram reels.

Being from Punjab, almost every Sardaarji i know (amritdhari or not) sleeps/showers with their hair uncovered. I don't think Guru Sahib asked us to wear Dastar to sleep and I don't think it is in SRM.   The idea of "keski being worn to sleep" is cos in Bollywood films (Bachna Ae Haseeno) Sikh characters usually tie a gol parna when sleeping since the actor's usually Hindu. So they gotta cover his head somehow or he'd have cut hair. Same reason Diljit wore a pagg to bed in the El Sueno vid. Only time they didn't do that was in Gadar with Sunny Deol which just looked odd tbh   What in the world? What sikh or even a decent human would base their knowledge of their culture or religion on a movie industry, that too Bollywood?  Believe me, no sikh ever said, I must cover my head becasue an actor did so in a movie. I've been doing it all wrong, I must start covering mh head because the sikh in that movie did.  Just because every panjabi and sardaar you know, does something, also doesn't make it right..  Follow the guru. And if you have a medical condition, then exemptions can be made.  Just admit it, because of my medical condition, I am not able to follow this rehit. Why are you getting everyone else to drop to your level?
    • Wasn't Guru Arjan Dev's martyrdom on amd always commemorated on 6th June? How come it was 30th May?  Just like 6th June 84, where the likes of Terrorists like Indira Gandhi chose to attack Darbar Sahib where many many innocent Sikhs would suffer, as they went to commemorate Martyrdom of Maharaj.
