What Happened To Chandigarh Airport Going International?

Amritsar Airport was named as international airport some three decades ago and still got only couple of intl flights.

Why would they need 2 international airports especially since there is already huge difference between Punjab's capital: Chandigarh, compared to Amritsar.

i am from amritsar. its a big disappointment that there are only few direct flights going there. it doesnt seem like international but domestic

Badals undermined Amritsar Airport in favour of Chandigarh. However real objective was to increase land prices in the Chandigarh area. There are also new domestic airports in Batindha and Pathankot that have zero flights.

Air India says that the Amritsar flight is its most profitable often totally full. You struggle to get a ticket at peak times for Amritsar on all flights. A few extra flights have been introduced at Amritsar recently including one to Malaysia but not promoted.
