Gurbani on meat

you think Guru Tegh Bahadur ji would approve?

cow is not worshipped, but it is respected by sikhs.  Maharaja Ranjit Singh banned cow slaughter and the kukas also revolted against cow slaughter.

you drink its milk, then you turn around to kill it and its offspring?

you want to kill an animal just because you hate a group?

you're not "Akali fauj".  go learn what "dharam" and "daya" means.

any sikh that eats beef is a disgrace.

I have nothing against cows , but why not extend your daya and dharam to other animals as well.

Most people in punjab and most sikhs I reckon drink Buffallo milk , not cow milk. So why not respect buffalo as well ?

or even goat for that matter . Some babies drink goat milk also . So why jhatka it ??

Cow (and I guess buffalo too)  is sacred in hinduism because it is synonymous with vedas. Sanskrit word 'Go' could mean cow/vedas/earth depending on context

This is pure comedy.  Singhs are lions in the aspect of fighting.  If you look at who is the hunter in the lion family it is not the lion.  The hunter is the lioness.  Lions control their area and protect the family from attack.  First learn why Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji called Singhs lions then apply the analogy.

Guru Gobind Singh ji said Khalsa Panth is Guru too.

The panth made Sikh Rehat Maryada in 1945.

No one is allowed to change it. Same way no one should change the 4 Bujjer Kurehits.

AKJ changed the Maryada and so did Damdami Taksaal.

This is wrong.

The Akal Takht, the panth maryada says no halal meat. Thats what it should be.

No one is allowed to change that.

Unfortunately Sikhs have now fallen victim to budh mat, brahmin mat, jain mat.

Meat is allowed in sikhism but not Halal.

How ever the Gurdwara must accommodate all so thats why it is veg.

I am a Gursikh who follows the Akal Takht Maryada and occasionally i do eat jatka meat.

Sant Maskeen ji had a beautiful katha about this

Heres the link please watch it, and stop with the nonsense, Guru Nanak dev ji said only fools argue over a diet. Dont mix Jain, brahmin and hindu religion in with Sikhi.

Guru hunted and ate meat.

There is life in saag too said Guru Nanak Dev ji.

Just make sure the meat your getting is Organic Farm raised, NOT MASS BUTCHER FACTORY.

The animal must live a humane life, and must not be ritualistically killed.

People the diet is a personal choice.

We have our Guru Granth sahib ji and our Khalsa panth. We are not allowed to change maryada. The Panth made. That includes the 4 Bujjer Kurehit

Shame on anyone who did .

Only FOOLS argue over a diet.

Listen to Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj

And listen to this youtube clip of Sant Maskeen ji katha.

It's from living in America and coming into contact with vegans that I realized the importance of respecting cows. You see, here in America, the most disgusting and sad places are places where animals are grown like dairy farms, pig, duck, chicken farms. The animals are kept in cages, with no room to move, and their bodily waste accumulates around them.  They develop diseases but instead of washing them, they are fed a ton of antibiotics and hormones. And they are grown so fat, they can no longer stand or support their weight. Then they are taken for slaughter. But as vegetarians, we don't really have to worry about the karma of places like this...except we do. Dairy farms are the worst. The cows must be impregnated again and again to keep producing quality milk and if the child is male, it is sent to slaughter houses. And the cows become really week from years of milk giving until they collapse. Then they are sent to slaughterhouses for meat for dog food etc.

And as milk drinkers, we are part of this sad cycle. It is the whole reason for keeping cows in captivity and impregnating them. As long as the dairy industry exists, beef will be made and sold as male offspring have to be used up somehow.

You guys are lucky in India, you get your milk from cows which are not harmed. so less bad karma. Our ancestors or lets say the pandits, were wise. The only animal we domesticate and use in India is the cow and bull. So to make sure we don't get any bad karma, they told the peasants to treat the cow as a goddess. And to this day, that belief has helped cows not get killed. People protested selling cows to Pakistan, people let them roam free on roads rather then send them to slaughter houses. And this is for the benefit of us all. Ofc, people are bad too. They let the cows go free when they become too old for milk. The cow that served them the whole life is abandoned. Also, male children of cows are stolen from the cow and also let on the street.

I think the reason buffalos and goats aren't as respected is because they are not domesticated. And can survive on their own in the wild and have terrible tempers and are not as defenseless as cows.

We need to do more to support the cow and other domesticated animals. I know people who want to start a humane dairy, but there is one problem. What do we do about the male children of the cow? Bulls are no longer needed in agriculture. And it will get expensive to just house and feed them.

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji did not stick his neck out for Hindus.  He stuck his neck out because a group of people were being slaughtered because of their beliefs. That could have been any group, it just so happened at that time it was Kashmiri pandits. So, in the correct context, you have no point.  Massaging a pandits legs will get you no points in God's book, but you will continue to do it because you are blind.  I can just see your head spinning as you read the word "book".  I wonder which way you will twist this word now.

If my post about cow jhatka is read in context of previous post made by pro hindu posters, then it's well understood the comment was made to ignite a fire that challenges their ideas.

A goat also gives milk to its offspring and humans for consumption.  So why is it that the goat is allowed to be chopped up by some Sikhs for food?  Are these people a disgrace? The goats blood is used in a ritual, while the cow is respected?  Seems to me the pandit just didn't get his legs massaged from you, he gave you the house special.  What about the people who close their eyes to how their veggies came to the market?  Some poor person was exposed to chemicals over a long period  of time and will get a illness that will eventually kill him.  Is a cow's life more valuable than goats and a poor human?

But you are God,  you get to choose what you value and don't.   The rules are made up as you are pulled and pushed by your pandit.

Why use the word hate?  I know because you're an emotional mess and that's your way of trying to label someone as bad.  Well after reading the above post you will not be calling me bad, but more colorful swear words will be coming out of your mouth because your God and everyone else tells you what to do.

According to Bachitar Natak (Dasam Granth), he did sacrifice for Hindus.  Guru Gobind Singh referred to "Tilak Janju Rakha"- Tilak (signs Brahmins wear on their heads) and Janju (sacred thread they wear), "Rakha" means protection.  So who are you to talk to me about "Guru's book"?

You're were not "challenging" anyone.  you were just being nasty.

Do you drink goats milk?  Then don't chop goats up either.  Same with buffalo.  If you're not interested in vegetables- don't eat them (i wouldn't recommend that though).  maybe people should stop using toxic pesticides?  either way, this reasoning you present makes no sense.

i do extend my "dharam" and "daya" to other animals, i'm vegetarian.  **He** mentioned cows, not me.  people in panjab do not eat buffalo meat.  and i don't "jhatka" goats.

but this is all besides the point.  all these points aren't you mention aren't even relevant.  why do you deliberately play stupid?

he mentioned cows to be hateful to hindus, and you know it.

hi thanks for your intelligent post

actually sadly India is one of the biggest exporters of leather and beef (albeit from buffalos).  i don't reside in India, but i have seen cows covered in soot, foraging for food in dirty streets.

one of the most prominent people to stand up for animal rights is, bizarrely, Maneka Gandhi (who is from a sikh family but married Indira's other son Sanjiv).

another slightly off topic point- when you look at photos from panjab around partition, you see white cows and oxen, you don't see many buffalos.  why?

In suraj prakash Guru Nanak Dev Ji visits the abode of rakshas that ate meat of animals & humans. Before being blessed, they had to promise not to kill or eat meat ever again. Then they desired to feed Guru ji, so went off into the forest and collected fruits which Guru Ji accepted.
