see that's the thing the illusion of desire to stick together is managed from up North ... the Dravidians want to be seperate whereever they have setlled , most of the troops in the Indian army are being used to suppress individual states to maintain the tenuous illusion rather than protect external borders . Mizoram Manipur, Bengal, Assam, Punjab , Kashmir and so many others are constantly under control

If it is North Indian Hindus.

Who are the precise set of North Indian Hindus that desire to keep things together?

Is it the U.P. bunch or Gujerati or Rajastani. 

My thinking is that if there are states that may want to breakaway,  it won't come from the oppressed impoverished ones, it will come from the more prosperous ones who will realise that being part of India is like an albatross around their necks holding them back that they will want to go their own way.

actually its the oppressed ones who are being kept in backwards mentality that want freedom from the control and lootmaar of politicians from UP, Gujrat, Rajasthan, MP. If you look up operation 'Green Hunt' its cover story is naxalite elimination but is actually removal of tribal adivasis opposing the exploitation of the forest for mineral mining . Operation Green hunt 2 is on now where Modi is planning to asset strip the forest and selling mining rights to the highest bidder that 's what these two parties have been doing either ripping of antiquities)congress' sonia is well known for doing this or natural resources .

Even if these states broke away there will be new loot mars though probably more local.

The best that the trials can hope for is some degree of autonomy.
