Gujratis are not respected anywhere. When they were moving to Bombay in large numbers back in 70s, they were highly disliked by that state natives (marathis). They were known as community who will sell anything for business. Modi is an example of that era. Gujratis in America are also highly disliked by everyone because of their nature of being shrewd business folks. 

One thing is that they help each other. They have their own lending which is quite good and the reason why them being the largest motel ownership in us. They do not discriminate among themselves likely we do.

This isn't a large sample group but we only had one airmen on my base than was visibly indian in descent, and a Gujrati. He used to have to hear the worst ignorant taliban blah blah stuff and I'd school the other airmen on hey... you're not even violating our conduct standards to bust this dudes stones accurately. 

Fast forward it turned out brown jokes aside, he shared a lot of their views and assimilated just fine. Better than I did.
