WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH One day a fisherman was lying on a beautiful beach, with his fishing pole propped up in the sand and his solitary line cast out into the sparkling blue surf. He was enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun and the prospect of catching a fish. About that time, a businessman came walking down the beach, trying to relieve some of the stress of his workday. He noticed the fisherman sitting on the beach and decided to find out why this fisherman was fishing instead of working harder to make a living for himself and his family. "You aren't going to catch many fish that way," said the businessman to the fisherman. "You should be work…

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH There's a story about the California gold rush that tells of two brothers who sold all they had and went prospecting for gold. They discovered a vein of the shining ore, staked a claim, and proceeded to get down to the serious business of getting the gold ore out of the mine. All went well at first, but then a strange thing happened. The vein of gold ore disappeared! They had come to the end of the rainbow, and the pot of gold was no longer there. The brothers continued to pick away, but without succes. Finally, they gave up in disgust. They sold their equipment and claim rights for a few hundred dollars, and took the train ba…

Sangat Ji I have been troubled with the following issues for some time and despite relating these to Granthis, Gianis and other Sikh scholars I have never been able to obtain a proper reply. How much of our daily life do we actually control? Is everything one does pre-destined due to our karam(past deeds), why do we act good/bad? If it due to our past deeds then God has already decided/chosen who is to obtain salvation or not? can we change our karam for the better or worse? Some examples: A thief steals and most of his life is spent in and out of prison. Was it written for him to behave dishonestly and steal? Lets say after a few years this thief had changed for th…

One day an expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration those students will never forget. As he stood in front of the group of high powered overachievers he said, "Okay, time for a quiz." Then he pulled out a one-gallon, wide-mouthed jar and set it on the table in front of him. Then he produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar. When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "Is this jar full?" Everyone in the class said, "Yes." Then he said, "Really?" He reached under the table and pulled ou…

they say that at night, the hyena cries into the night as it stares into the stars, but the question is why does it cry? the story goes that god gave his darshans to all the animals, and said to his animals he wanted them to decorate his skies with the animal images. the animals had decided to throw these stars into the air, making accurate portrayals of themselves. the hyena, thinking he was smart decided to throw this stars as far as he could, but he did not throw these stars to make his own images, but decided to scatter them high in the air. the hyena thought he was so smart in doing so. but when it came to the last star, he realised that what he had done was the mo…

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH While Guru Ji was at Panjokhara and mediating on God, a Sikh came and told him of a proud Brahman who was in the neighbourhood. The Brahman had asked the Guru’s name and learned that it was Satguru Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji. Hearing this the Brahman became very angry and said, ‘The poet of the Bhagavat Gita, whom no one can equal, called God merely Krishan, and the Guru calls himself Sri Har Krishan, as if he thinks himself superior to Krishan. If he be such a Guru let him come and translate the Gita with me’. Guru Ji replied to this Sikh, ‘ The eyes of understanding are very good, but the cataract of pride so blindeth t…

The Wolves Within An old Grandfather said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a schoolmate who had done him an injustice, "Let me tell you a story. I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do. But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times." He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside me; one is good an does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him and does not take offense when no offence was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right …

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH I was parked in front of the mall wiping off my car. I had just come from the car wash and was waiting for my wife to get out of work. Coming my way from across the parking lot was what society would consider a bum. From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no money. There are times when you feel generous but there are other times that you just don't want to be bothered. This was one of those "don't want to be bothered times." "I hope he doesn't ask me for any money," I thought. He didn't. He came and sat on the curb in front of the bus stop but he didn't look like he could have e…

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour a day to drain the fluids from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed next to the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the oth…

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH A young man applied for a job as a farmhand. When the farmer asked for his qualifications, he said, "I can sleep when the wind blows." This puzzled the farmer. But he liked the young man, and hired him. A few days later, the farmer and his wife were awakened in the night by a violent storm. They quickly began to check things out to see if all was secure. They found that the shutters of the farmhouse had been securely fastened. A good supply of logs had been set next to the fireplace. The young man slept soundly. The farmer and his wife then inspected their property. They found that the farm tools had been placed in the stora…
