I Want To Wear A Dastar

What do you do when you want to wear a dastaar but your mum doesn't? Both my parents are Amrit-dhari but mum doesn't wear a dastar (please dont make this a debate about which amrit is better now). I dont want it to seem as though I'm telling her she's wrong (indirectly) by wearing a dastar once I take Amrit. My mum's a very strong person who's always wanting the best for me and usually makes a lot of the big decisions for me too. Now if I take Amrit and wear a dastar, she will without a doubt feel as though she's doing something wrong or I'm too religious  and I don't want to hurt her feelings. I haven't discussed this ambition with her because I'm still trying …

Hi Guys I am a New Zealander who have been living in Delhi for the past 8 years since I married A Punjabi Sikh woman whom I met at the University of Auckland. Her family is composed of my wife our son, her brother, his wife and two sons, and parents and all of us live in the same house. Until 6 years ago, none were very religious and all of them cut their hair and none of them wore turbans. The first transformation came when my Mother-in-law started wearing the 5 k's and doing daily nitnam, She eventually convinced my father-in-law to get baptised and now he wears a turban. .Then shortly after my brother-in-law and his wife and two sons got baptised with all four of the…

I was married already 2 times, is it wrong what i am doing? 1 2

I am a sikh girl and i was married already 2 times. I couldnt stay with my first husband because he abused me and hit me. He was very violent. As you folks know, when someone was already married once, its hard to find a good husband the second time. So i got another time a husband who abused me and also drank much alcohol. I couldnt stay in that family, it was very hard, i got hit every day. Also both didnt loved me. So i am divorced and that too also 2 times already. What do you think? Should i have stayed with him even if they were abusive? Because in sikhi you can marry only once right? Or was it the right thing i did?

My cousins Chacha took amrit not long ago. Just over the weekend we had a wedding, and I told him I wanted to take amrit. His response has still shocked me till now “you are still so young and you have been blessed with good looks, go enjoy your life for a few more years and then take amrit. You have really nice eyes and a jaw line, DONT WASTE IT” what the F**k. It really put me off sikhi, to know that amritdharis think this. I would have expected this from a mona, not a singh that japs naam!!!!!! My family have reluctantly stopped me from taking Amrit! It’s always “oh your still so young”, “your so good looking, you won’t look nice with a dastar”, “you won’t do good…

This morning I woke up praying. Like i was literally half asleep and then all of a sudden i started saying the ardaas and doing simran. It was really weird. What do you think this means. Im not really religious so i dont really pray in the morning but the way it all happened was just so strange. Do you think this has any significant meaning. I habe heard that it could be a blessing or even death sign. What do you think ??

Gurfateh to all. I am sorry if this comes across as negative, but I would really like to know if there are others that feel the same. Firstly, I myself am a bana wearing, rehat following amritdhari so I don't have any negative intentions behind this topic. I just feel these days that gursikhs are extremely into showing off and using Sikhi as a way to feel better about themselves and show off. When I say using Sikhi I mean things like keertan, rehat, bana, seva etc. I come across individuals who on the surface are doing everything right yet when you speak to them you say very few gurmat values, such as true love and humility. Instead I see lots of ego, lots of showing …

I'd like a Sikh Friend
by Guest Sharon- 5 replies

Hi, I'm 26 female from West Midlands. I was not raised in a religious family but I'm interested in learning about Sikhi. I speak little Punjabi. I don't have any friends and I would like to find a Sikh friend. I'm not very close to my family, my dad and brother ignore me and my mother passes away. My dad got remarried and his wife doesn't talk to me. It would be nice to have good company so I thought I'd ask if anyone would like to be friends and chat.
