I just wanted to get your guys opinion on how you feel being a Sikh in the 21st Century? What do you feel you can bring to people around you? Also, how would you describe Sikhi to a non-Sikh in a few minutes, without prior thinking? :D

Sikh Intermarriage 1 2 3 4

Hi Everybody, I am twenty four years old and a Sikh woman. I was born into Sikhism, but I am not amrit shakh or baptized. I believe in God, in being a good person, in love and not in hate...in equality. I think Sikhism is a beautiful religion but the truth is I do have trimmed long hair (so it is not unshorn) and I eat meat, I have dated three people...I'm not a "perfect" Sikh, but I love my family and we are very close - and my grandparents' generation - my grandparents on both sides of my family have always been extremely religious, and a very well known and respected traditional Sikh punjabi family in my community. Two of my grandparents often speak at the gurdwar…

Sikh is a race, not just a religion 1 2 3

There is a difference between believing the Sikh religion and calling yourself a Sikh. I believe that Sikh is an ethnogroup of Punjabis who have at least 100 years of sikh ancestry, have Sikh principles and beliefs, and practiced it culturally. Sikh ancestry is your father, mother, grandmothers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, great-grandmothers, etc. are Punjabi Sikh. I believe that people from a different background who convert to sikhism should not call themselves Sikh but they should instead say they practice it. If the convert practices it truthfully for a long time and are known in the community, you will be still considered as a practicing Sikh. You are a practic…

Hi guys I just saw the film jurassic world and I was wondering if any of you Sikhs were kidnapped by a mad scientist who injected you with a mutagenic formula that transformed into a half human- half Asiatic lion man, how would that make you feel?

Guru roop sadh sangat ji, please accept my fateh, WJKK, WJKF Daas wud like to share some important issues he is facing in his personal life and hopes the sangat can help daas find a way out. I am 27, married and currently a patit in my Sikhi. I am facing some internal battles at present and I'm finding it hard to find a way out. I wud describe myself as a very western orientated Sikh in that I luv my way of dressing and music. Recently I started cutting my beard coz i didn't feel comfortable with it (I used to tie it but still it wud fall down or give me hassle (as I honestly felt). And all the time I found my mind pre-occupied with thinking 'oh is it in place', 'i…

Sikh Male - Made Mistakes While Younger 1 2

hi all I am a Canadian keshdhari (not amritdhari) Sikh guy who didn't really understand Sikhi on a deeper level prior to recently. I kept the look but didn't know much. This summer I made a point to learn as much as I could and I have been feeling guilty since. Last year I dated a girl (not Sikh) and while it wasn't based around lust (she was a great person, humanitarian) I feel terrible about things that happened. We did not have sex, but we were intimate and very close with each other physically. I no longer associate with this girl in this manner, and just have an occasional short platonic conversation. I've come to the point in my life where I regret this now. I wa…

Sikh Marrying Mixed Sikh 1 2 3
by Guest Sikh- 21 replies

Is it okay for a Sikh to marry a mixed Sikh? The person is half white but was raised as a Sikh and is a strong believer in Sikhism. Our Rehit says that a Sikh must marry a Sikh, but does it say anything about mixed race?

I have learned that today a Sikh girl is to get married to a Bhuddist at Belvedere Gurdwara in secret.. I am deeply saddened to learn this, given the Akal Takht's Hukamnama which banned such practices from occrurring. The wedding was due to take place at Barking Gurdwara, but was cancelled due to mass protests by Sikhs. The bride and the Bride's family seemed to apparently accept the position and outwardley represented that the wedding ceremony was called off. However in secret, they planned another wedding on a Friday at Guru Nanak Darbar, Belvedere, in the hope that on a Friday, the activity will go unnoticed. This is completely unaccpetable and goes against Sikh p…

Me and my family are all Canadian citizens and live in Ontario. I am also asking my local sangat as well but I would like to your suggestions as well. Thank you. Vjkkvjkf
