  1. Gurfateh Sangat Jeo, As motorcyclewale Veerji said Sant Ji gave this speech on 20th Sep, 1983 at Diwan Hall, Manji Sahib. Here is complete transcript of the speech: The comment about 'killing 5000 hindus' was not made to provoke attacks against Hindus. Sant Ji were merely replying to an earlier comment made by Indira, something on the lines of 'Sikhs are only handful in number, and when the time comes it would no problem to 'control' them'. What Sant Ji were implying was that Sikhs do not provoke violence against anyone, but if continuous attacks against them are launched again and again, both phsycially and verbally, then Sikhs wont sit quiet. Read/listen to Sant Ji's explanation as to why he used these words: Sant Ji: "Why was the word 'Hindu' used? I do not have any animosity against Hindus. If that was the case then I would not have rescued Hindu's daughter from Jalalabad. Hindu Hukam Chand's daughter was forcefully abducted by a Hindu youth. He (Hukam Chand) came on the stage and screamed and wept in front of a gathering of 10 thousand, and said: "Sant Ji, you are sevadar of Damdami Taksaal. In puratan times Sikhs would rescue abducted Hindu girls. A hindu has abducted my young daughter...". If I had any bias in my heart, Id have said to him, "Get off the stage and tell this to Hindus." But no, because a Sikh's duty is: Nanak Naam Chardi Kalaa, Tere Bhaane Sarbat Da Bhalaa I followed this very principle. I was speaking on stage at 12:00 noon, at Jalalabad, near Fazilka. I said to him, your daughter will come back home before 5pm, but only if what you said is true, and that there is no other reason. And, Mahinder Singh Sayeean Wale was given this duty by daas..., Khalsa Ji, the girl was rescued and sent to that Hindu's home at 4:45pm. There is one shopkeeper named Kailash Chander nearby, his shop had caught fire. Shopkeeper's Union enticed him to name Bhindranwala behind the arson, but he did not. Two Sikhs, and one Hindu, 3 of them came to see me in my room. He started crying. I said, "What is the matter? Why are you crying?" He said, "Ji, my shop has been burnt." I said, "Ask what you want." He said, "If you could give me 100 rupees, that will give me a reason to ask for donations." He was given 500 rupees. A copy of Ramayan caught fire in Kapurthala, the leader of that place was given 5 thousand rupees by Damdami Taksaal. Two hindus got Shaheed on 4th in the 'Raah Roko' work. 10 thousand rupees were given by Akali Dal and Shromani Committee. Then, why do they (Indira, press) say I cause divisions?" Therefore, as Veers above rightly said please listen/read the whole speech and you shall find the real reason behind this misquote. Dhanvaad!

  2. sant ji did in fact say this, but here is the entire speech, theres 5 parts total. it would help if you listen to all 5 parts to better understand the bigger picture, because if we just take out bits and parts of such speeches and not get a full understanding of the entire situtation, we will think sant ji against hindus or is in favor of killing hindus. but sant ji does a very gud job himself of why he said this. the 5000 hindu part is in part 2, at around 8 minutes into it. this speech is taking place at manji sahib divan hall, darbar sahib. but in the end, no sant ji didnt kill 5000 hindus, or didnt need to i guess. cuz the situation was resolved very quickly after sant ji told everyone he would do this. its all explained in the speechs below.

  3. Taken from Gyani Amar Singh Ji's book of Sodi Paatshah. During the time period of Guru Amar Das Ji, the city of Govindwal was flourishing. Sangat would come especially to do Guru Ji's darshan. During this time, Bhai Jetha Ji (who later became Guru Ram Das Ji) , came to Baasarke, to live with his maternal grandparents. Bhai Jetha Ji was born in 1534 in Lahore to Mata Daya Kaur & Hardas Ji. However his parents passed away while he was very young. He then came to stay with his maternal grandparents at Basarke. When he heard about Govindwal & the praises of Guru Amar Das Ji, he left Basarke and came to stay in Govindwal. Just before Bhai Jetha Ji left for Govindwal, a very significant incident took place that changed the course of his life. His Naniji had bestowed on him the responsibility of selling 'ghungreeyaa' (boiled grains). One day as he left home to sell 'ghungreeyaa' , he met some holy men on the way. They asked him for 'ghungreeyaa' as they were very hungry. Bhai Jetha Ji sat down and offered them a handful of the same, thinking they will be satisfied with that. However, the holy men were not satisfied and asked him for more. Bhai Jetha Ji was so selfless & humble that he gave all the ghungreeyaa he had to the holy men. Bhai Jetha Ji's Naniji had given him the grains in the morning, thinking he would bring home some earning. When he returned home, Naniji asked him how much he had earned, to which Bhai Jetha Ji replied "Kuch vi nahi". He narrated the entire incident to her but she couldn't believe him. Bhai Jetha Ji was very hurt with Naniji's words & so he left for Govindwal. Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Ramkalee dee Vaar : ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥ Salok mėhlā 5. As Lahore was easily accessible from Govindwal, many travelers en-route to Lahore would pass by Govindwal. Bhai Jetha Ji was very happy here to see the sangat. The sound of kirtan from the Guru's Darbar filled his heart with happiness & peace. Twice a day he would pay respects at the Guru's Darbar, while he sold 'ghungreeyaa' in the day. It is believed that when Bhai Jetha Ji called out to passers by, "Ghungreeyaa leh lo", in his sweet, melodious voice, they would stop by just to listen to him. Guru Amar Das Ji had two daughters; Bibi Dani Ji & Bibi Bhani Ji. Bibi Dani Ji was married while Bibi Bhani Ji was to get married. Guru Sahib jaanee jaan sann. He would sit quietly engrossed in the thoughts of Akaal Purakh. However his wife, Bibi Bhani Ji's mother was very concerned about her daughter's future. One day while Bhai Jetha Ji was passing by the Guru Darbar and calling out "Ghungreeyaa leh lo", Bibi Dani Ji's mother asked Guru Sahib that their daughter was of marriageable age & they must find a suitable match for her. Guru Sahib Ji, jaanee jaan sann. He asked Mata Ji, "Kidda ko larkaa honaa chaheeda hai?" Mata Ji had seen Bhai Jetha Ji a few times selling 'ghungreeyaa'. However today she looked at him with much love & admiration. Bhai Jetha Ji had such noor & bakshish on his face that Mata Ji couldn't help admiring him. She told Guru Sahib, "Jidda ko munda ghungreeyaa vechar vaala hai, eho jeha hi koyi hove, taa theek hai." On hearing this Guru Amar Das Ji laughed and said, "Bholeeye! Eho jehaa taa kudrat ne eho hee paida kitaa hai, hor kitho hovega?" Mata Ji was taken aback with Guru Sahib's words. She said "Maharaj! Mera matlab hai ki edda koh munda hovey." Guru Sahib again said, "Oh bholeeye! hun kyu bharam karni hai? Iss jehaa eho hi hai." Mata Ji became apprehensive now thinking, how could Guru Sahib give his daughter's hand to Bhai Jetha Ji! Guru Amar Das Ji sent a sewak to call Bhai Jetha Ji. On arriving at the Guru's darbar, Bhai Jetha Ji kept the basket of ghungreeyaa on the floor, bowed before Guru Ji and sat down. Gyani Amar Singh Ji [the writer of this sakhi], wonders there was a time when Bhai Jetha Ji did Guru Amar Das Ji's darshan from a distance and today Guru Sahib gave him the opportunity to do his darshan so closely. With his head bowed in humility, Bhai Jetha Ji asked "Ji Satguru Ji, iss nimaare layee ki hukkam hai?" Guru Sahib replied, " Saada taa koyee hukkam nahi, par iss teri mata ji nu tere naal kam pai gaya si." Guru Ji then looked at Mata Ji and asked, "Ki salaah hai? Iss vargaa taa eho jeha hi hai." Mata Ji replied "Aap maalak ho, jivey theek samjhde ho, uve hi theek hai. Mein tuhaadi hukkam-adoolee dee aviggyaa nahi kar sakdi, na mein tuhadeeyaa door-darshi gallaa bare koyi andaaza hi laa sakdi haa, iss layi aap theek hi aakh rahe hovoge." After listening to Mata Ji's words, Guru Amar Das Ji asked Bhai Jetha Ji about his family & where he lived. Bhai Jetha Ji with utmost humility and respect answered all questions of Guru Sahib, and kept on repeating, "Paatshah! Mein ta yateem haa, gareeb haa, nitaara haa, par tuhade aasre te ithe Govindwal vich hi jeewan-nirbaah kar reha haa." Nimaareyaa de maarn, nitaareyaa de taarn, nioteyaa di oat, niaasreyaa de aasre, nigatteyaa di gatt, nipatteyaa di patt, te nidhiniyaa di dhir baran wale Guru Amar Das Ji , smiled after listening to Bhai Jetha Ji and said, " Assaa tera yateempura khatam kar dera hai, tennu apnaa puttar barah lehraa hai." After saying these sacred words, Guru Amar Das Ji sent Bhai Jetha Ji to Lahore and told him that he would like his daughter wedded to him. Guru Sahib also asked Bhai Jetha Ji to now go and prepare for the wedding, and later if he wished he could return to stay with Guru Sahib. Kirtan ~~~ P.S. The above is a small attempt at translating from Gyani Amar Singh Ji's book on Sodi Paatshah which is written in Gurmukhi. There may be numerous mistakes while doing so, bhull chuk mauf karna ji. :waheguru:

  4. Ok, we all know Vasakhi is our biggest festival or at least is should be! I think it's a major responsibility of Gurdwaras to ensure the weekend following Vasakhi (if not the entire week) is solely dedicated to Vasakhi and ensure the entire Sikh congregation are focussed on this. It offends me somewhat that bookings are accepted for weddings during this auspicious weekend, which in some Gurdwara's ends up taking prominence over everything else. Again, it boils down to committees looking at the healthy income stream rather than their moral obligation to Sikhi. It wouldn't bother me if it was a Gursikh wedding but 95% of them will be about getting the lava done and then legging it to the reception party to get absolutely trolleyed! It's just one weekend! Can't we encourage Amrit Sanchar's, Kirtan Samagams, Dadhi Vaara, Gatka Demos etc instead of being hijacked by impatient wedding guests desperate to get out of the Gurdwara in time to make the party... I have had my rant!

  5. Subaig Singh vs Edvardas Petrusis MMA Semi-professional fight (2 x 5 minutes) It was impossible to hear tonight’s MC Alistair Weir over the roar from the crowd when Subiag Singh entered the cage. Subaig always brings plenty of followers to his fights and this evening was no different. A slightly cautious start at first, but Subaig landed a couple of good punches and kicks making Edvardas look unsteady on his feet. Subaig lands another good punch to the face and seizes upon this opportunity by pinning Edvardas down on the cage floor before delivering a further barrage of punches. The blood can be seen clearly on his face however in a remarkable turn of events, Edvardas manages to regain control of the situation and has Subaig pinned down on the floor in a headlock. Although he seems to have the advantage, it is difficult for Edvardas to capitalise on it as he is putting all his energy into keeping Subaig where he is. The two are essentially dragging each other around the cage as Subaig tries to get into a better position and Edvardas tries to stop him. Eventually, Subaig’s perseverance pays off and he manoeuvres into a better position which allows him to land some punches on Edvardas’s face. With Edvardas reeling, Subaig moves round and goes for a rear naked choke. The referee for this bout was Judo Jim Wallhead. Winner: Subaig Singh Loser: Edvardas Petrusis Method: Rear Naked Choke Round 1 – 4 mins 16 secs

  8. I remember once hearing one of his speeches where Sant Jarnail Singh Ji said something along the lines of "I will kill 5000 Hindus". Now I know nothing about what he was talking about, anyway, I want to know if anyone can locate that video for me so I can see it again. Also it would be great if someone could explain what he said and put it into context for me. Thanks a lot

  9. hanji, sant ji said this to get the attention of the government who at the time was not listening any other way. sant ji used another expression "hath othe launa chahida ae jithe peer hove" meaning you should touch and care for that part of the body for where you are hurt. so sant ji did just that, the govrnment only cared for hindus, and only felt pain for the hindus so sant ji made sure he touched that part of the governments pain, the hindus. so when the government heard that 5000 hindus would be killed within 1 hour if the buses were not let go, everybody had a heart attack. and so shorty after sant jis statement, the buses were freed out of police custody.

  17. Pretty sure this is not the right attitude to have. If it was up to you, we'd probably not wear kirpans at all in a few years. If you simply sit back and let this happen, it will never stop. Slowly, they will start banning them everywhere because there's no-one challenging it. How is it not a big issue? Your panj kakaar are meant to be part of your roop. They're not supposed to be parted from your body; not something that can be compromised. If we start choosing where to wear and not wear them, they will lose their significance. To avoid trouble, the kirpan should be kept gupt in public places.

  20. We should send a delegation of Sikhs to meet the management. The person who kicked him out was probably a school leaver who doesn't know what day of the week it is, let alone the laws governing our 5K's. Sit down with the management, show them recent cases, they would want to avoid a adverse media attention with holiday season approaching.

  22. . The church was not taken down after the independence. I think, it was taken down much earlier. I have read some where that this church was built around 1885, but was turned into a clock tower by the the the backer of the construction himself, within a few years after it was built. And later it was taken down. He (the builder/ backer) was an English high ranking administrative officer and he was keen about spreading Christianity in Punjab. The legend says that as the church was being built he started to become sick. So some good soul advised him that he should not have built this church as a challenge to Darbar Sahib. So after some thought and after consulting his backers, he decided to abandon his original plans to make it into a grand church. (This is what my understanding is. Could someone search the history and find out what really happened?) .

  24. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Guru Roop Sangat Jeo, I was reading some articles by Bhagat Pooran Singh Ji when I came across these beautiful bachans that deeply moved me, perhaps because of their association with Bhagat Ji's own life, so thought I share the joy with you all The original text is in Gurmukhi, hope this translation does not take away the essence of Bhagat Ji's original words. Some Bachans on importance of Kes and Dastaar Sriman Bhagat Pooran Singh Ji I was born and raised in a Snatan Hindu family. All the monay people of our village used to wear turbans on their heads, and almost all Khatris and Brahmins kept long beards. My Hindu father Lala Sibboo Mall also kept long beard and used to tie a huge turban on his head. Before India’s partition, a prominent doctor of Lahore Dr. Beli Ram would walk around the streets advocating keeping of long beard for protection from throat infections during winter months. I adopted the Sikh faith at the age of nineteen; that is when I started keeping Kes on my head. Before that my appearance was that of any other Hindu boy. I was born and raised in a village where the surrounding land was full of fields, and in fields one also finds Beri (a type of small fruit commonly found in Punjab’s countryside) trees. People often throw pebbles and stones to knock down these fruits from the high branches. Once I was sitting under one of the tress when suddenly a loose stone hit me in the head, which caused a huge gash near my forehead. Although I use to wear turban even in those days, maybe I was not wearing one on that day. Or perhaps I was, but barely a single layer of cloth covers the centre of the head, which is almost same as not having anything on head at all. It is the knotted Kes in the middle of the head that provide good protection against heavy objects. The following incident is from year 1989: I was walking near Ghanta Ghar, Sri Darbar Sahib when suddenly, from a height of 50 feet, a double brick fell from Ghanta Ghar’s deordi and landed barely a foot away from me. If I was one foot closer, the brick would have surely struck me in the head, and I would not have survived. But with God’s grace I was saved that day. From that day onwards I started wearing Nihang Singh style tall dumalla, and people have starting assuming I am a Nihang Singh. In war, weapons of all sorts hit you, and in ordinary day-to-day life, people get attacked by sticks and the like, that is why adorning Dastaar on the head is very important. Dhanvaad for reading jeo!

Guru Gobind Singh Jee came out the tent with his sword APPARENTLY dripping in blood? - Tent - everyone has differences in opinion wether tent was used or wether the event occured in public - not a big issue tho. Steel bowel - incorrect - in future the term sarbloh - pure iron is better why is the photographer in here??? just to put a downer on it, guru gobind singh meant well but it didnt work? Bibi Guru Kaur spoke well - apart from oum mantar chanting Why could they speak of abhiyaas simran, rehat, even what the daily routine of gursikhs is etc Why does the lady speaking say - sikh holy book?

  31. Maybe, you're mistakenly projecting your own (and your friends) thinking on others? Plus are you really that simple that you haven't twigged onto how such 'surveys' are really used as a propaganda tool. They say there are "lies, d@mn lies and statistics", don't fall for them. No Sikh I know thinks like you mention - apart from the odd low IQ, desperate for social acceptance type and when people do meet that type, they usually laugh at him/her disdainfully as someone with serious identity confusion issues. A 'try too hard' if you like. Whilst living where you do (where it seems whites are a minority?) might give you a skewed impression that whites like the type of sycophancy you're espousing, truth is, no one really respects a55 kissers. It's like a 'butler' mentality. Whilst they may tell you what you want to hear to keep you on a leash, truthfully no man can truly respect another subservient man. Too many brothers have serious 'mental ghulaam' issues towards goray. They need to see things more critically and astutely instead of making us look like joey-boys.

  32. I don't think there was any concrete plan by british to take over darbar sahib. That lightning incident happened during Mahraja Ranjit Singh time.. It was evening time during monsoon season with heavy thunderstorms, one lightning/bijla came down to the darbarsahib main diwan hall thru window but didn't struck anything.. stayed for few seconds and exited thru other door.. (description of this happening is mentioned in plaque on top of the door before entering diwan hall. Kar sewa of darbar sahib sarovar happens after every 100 years. Due to state sponsored BlueStar attack on darbar sahib, kar sewa was ordered in 1984 (we all know that sewa of this sarovar was much needed because sarovar got filled with innocent sikh sangat's blood and bodies during the massacre led attack by army. Kar sewa in 2004 was done in order to install filter sponsored by Tut Brothers of California. However, it turned out (from opinions of sewadars of darbar sahib) that those filters didn't bring much change...

  34. what symbol or sign represents khalistan better then a weapon? after all "shastrn ke adeen hai raj" the ak is fine(which on that shirt looks totally awesome on that shirt) but if we afraid people will call us extreme or get a negative impression, then maybe a huge kirpan/khanda or something could replace it. budt then still there will be people who look at kirpans and such with a negative view. since everything is advanced these days, shastrs too got advanced.... the ak is not bad at all, just viewed bad by those who dont understand the need of such things in life.....] but with the majority of people's views these days, you do have a valid point pyara bhaji.....
