I'm thinking of going to Harmandir Sahib tomorrow or the day after by myself on bus but I wanted to check whether i'd be able to get the rooms that are allotted for NRIs without having to bribe the people who deal with handing out rooms or have contacts to call them to give it. Has anyone recently gone to Sachkhand and stayed there, if so please do share your experience and process of obtaining a room there. ty

Just here to encourage all the sikhsangat.com to start a youtube channel to record some videos or any animations we can make. To start producing audio and video publications we have christian and muslim youtube channels how about videos which we can film, such as debates, forums. Things we see on sikh channel, sangat tv we can film our own things which can be the amature productions we see even christian channels have amature christian youtube videos those which are good enough get aired. We have cameras digital phones, iphone. I encourage all of you to open your own channel to get the sabat soorat sikhi saroop for the whole world to see. We can make comedies, we can do parachar. We can film even local gatherings and so forth?

I don't think alluding to the fact that she married out of race/faith is the reason for the split. People from the same faith/race who get married end up divorcing each other for various reasons. You cannot say that ONLY marrying inside your own faith/race will lead to happiness any more than you can say that marrying outside of it will spell doom. She got married to someone, it didn't work and they sadly got a divorce. End of.

The title is possibly a little misleading, I'm not advertising an ebay auction (if the mods and sangat dont mind i may do shortly). Just wanted an opinion from veer n pehn ji's. I have a relative in punjab in who is a pretty brilliant artist (in my view), he sells some of his sikhi related artwork in the local town for pittance and this is generally his way of feeding the family. I was thinking of listing some of oil paintings and sketches on ebay as I'm sure if there are plenty of people like me out there that would like high quality work such his for very reasonable prices - at the same time he'll make a more comfortable living. Before I go ahead and list some of his images on ebay I wanted to know if I'm likely to face any kind of a backlash or if theres even a market for artwork? His artwork is generally of gurdware or modified reproductions of the images of guru's in the mainstream.

Though I hate Sarna Delhi congress agent but i have to give them praise for doing much better service for visitors. Delhi gurdwara Saran/niwas system is very nice and heard same from many different people. My relatives in India who are well connected visits amritsar once in a while and they never able to get any room.. They never use names/safarish for anything. One time late night they didn't get any room and were walking away to make other arrangement.... An old sewadar at the outer gate suggested that Sita Niwas hotel is next door.. They replied in calm manner, guru ramdas jee deh gharoon kad keh, hun sanu Sita niwas bejo. It won't be surprised if these front desk niwas sewadars or sgpc members get paid monthly from local businesses such as Mahan thug 'chatter Singh jivan Singh hotel' and others...

A virtual-panj-pyare device. It would be like having the advice and counsel of the panj pyare at any time. Because one of the reasons for having panj pyare is to decide on issues, and to compromise and break ties(therefore the odd number five, one can always break the tie). Because we have lost the ability to compromise, and think there is only one way,and for any issue we have extremists, moderates, and liberals. Take the issue of Dasam Granth. Some believe it is Dasam Guru Granth because it is Guru's bani and should be given same status as Guru Granth Sahib ji, some believe that only some banis were written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and other banis weren't, others believe that no banis were written by Guru Ji. So like the Sarbat Khalsa did in 1930's when they compiled the Rehit Maryada, they only wrote the minimum requirements, what most people agreed on, and left it to individual choice to go beyond the minimum requirements. So type in the problem the extremist view, liberalist view and the virtual-Panj Pyare will decide on a moderate, minimum requirement compromise. This will lead to constructive debate and will hopefully elimiinate the harsh words and fights. On the Dasam Granth issue the virtual device will take in the extremist,moderate, and liberal view and will decide on let's say that noone is allowed to doubt on the Nitnem banis:Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasaad Savaiye, Chapaui Sahib, or Ardaas, but the rest is to individual choice. Of course many will not like this moderate view because it still promotes nindaks but at least it will stop bad parchaar that effects Amrit and Ardaas. Also it will help us decide trivial matters such as what to do with issues like Jay Leno's remark about the Golden Temple. Many people wanted him to apolozise and wanted to protest, while others said it was a joke stop being so fanatic and paranoid, and we shouldn't say/do anything because the Indian Govt got involved and are trying to use it to ruin our image and win votes. Maybe it could be a app where everybody shares therir viewpoint on recent issues and the app could come up with a compromise? We need to learn compromise. All great nations use compromise as the most democratic and effective way as it allows people to work together to solve problems.

Keeping kesh is a responsibility as an Amritdhari. Not everyone is willing to accept the sacrifice. Agree that biggest problem/barrier is the Western lifestyle - portrayed in magazines, films, TV etc. Second biggest problem is lack of education - from parents, from Gurdwaras, from fellow Sikhs. Yet do not look down on those who have cut their hair but still choose to matha tek to the Guru. They may not be Amritdhari, but they are still souls who have remained within the broad fold of Sikhi.

You learn a language to communicate and understand how different culture and society works. Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji Maharaj knew many different languages are you suggesting now he learned them just for economic profit? Your argument is completely illogical. Satguru has given us the instuctions to learn about other cultures and religions, so we don't stay ignorant. And for that we learn languages. Also Satguru instructed us to make an honest living, so there is nothing wrong with making a profit. Sikhs don't practice what the Jains do. There is clear instuctions on why we learn languages and make a honest living by Satguru. So yeah, if you don't follow these instuctions, then your not practicing as Satguru told you. I asked anyone to provide me one Shabad from Gurbani that says you can dance, but you can't present one; because it doesn't exist. I can provide you Hukams and Gurbani that tells us to study other religions and make an honest living. Listen to Aarti next time very carefully, Bhagat Dhanna Jatt very specifically ask Maharaj for few things, but he only ask so then he can continue on worshipping God. Lastly my actions don't represent or stand for Rehat Maryada or Sikhi. IF i was making economic profit for enjoyment of worldly things and you want to dance because it gives you worldly enjoyment, does that make us both wrong or both right? Like the cliche goes, two wrongs don't make a right. IF you want to pick at someone's actions and representing Rehat Maryada, then speak about Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa. If your attached to dancing, then by all means go do what you want, but don't call it a practice which Satguru approves. You would really benefit from reading ang 350, where Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji Maharaj says even using dancing as a form of worship to God is wrong.
