  2. Important to remember throughout Sikh history our Guru Sahibs have shown us the way how to survive events that may challenge the kaum. Guru Hargobind Sahib’s first sermon must be heard again today and applies just as much now as it did when he first gave it. Guru Arjan Dev had been brutally tortured and embraced martyrdom, becoming an example for the Panth. The Sikhs were grief-struck and felt a sense of despair. The small Panth of Guru Nanak had been targeted by the mighty power of the Mughals. Guru Hargobind Sahib, became the next Guru as per the orders of his father. In front of all the gathered Sikhs, Baba Buddha jee put the two swords of meeri and peeri on Guru Hargobind Sahib. Guru Sahib was dressed like and emperor and there was a kalgi (aigrette) on his dastaar. The Dhadis, Bhai Abdullah and Bhai Nath Mal, at the hukam of Guru Hargobind Sahib sang a vaar filled with bir ras. Then, Guru Hargobind Sahib rose and gave his first sermon to the Sikhs: “Today the offerings that are beloved to me are good weapons and good youth. If you want my happiness, then exercise your bodies, wrestle, play gatka, go into the jungles to hunt and learn to ride horses. Weakness is now a crime to the Nation that cannot be forgiven for anyone. You will take up the sword and I now wear the sword so that the swords of tyranny and oppression will stop forever. You have all come from far and wide today. The cool tranquillity has been stolen from not just your heart and my heart, but from the entire world. Our swords will not rest until we bring this oppression to an end. Make day and night one. Go into the villages and light the inferno of revolution. Tell the people that we need their youth. Only that is a good youth that sacrifices itself for the cause of the Nation. We need sacred hearts and pure minds. Enshrine Waheguru in your hearts. We fear death because we have not experienced true life. We feel worry because we have not enjoyed a taste of life. We feel fear because our destination and goal seems so far off. But if you challenge death, death will flee from you. If you learn to walk with your heads held high then worry will depart. If you are determined to walk, the destination will not be so far away. Have faith in Vahiguru and all fears will vanish. If fear has left you then even death will seem like bliss.” Guru jee continued, “Do not think that you are too few. You are all like springs. Oceans flow out of these very springs. There are hundreds of thousands of springs like you in our Nation. When you come together and flow forward, you will create a flood. A small and insignificant piece of wood, when made into a match, can light the entire jungle on fire. But you are humans! And furthermore, those humans whose heart has just now been scorched on hot iron plates [reference to shahidi of Guru Arjan Dev jee]. Addressing the poets in the Sangat, Guru Sahib said, “See, God has given you the gift of poetry. When nations are built, you are the foundations. Stop all these other untimely songs and work to bring the Nation out of this deep dark pit. Tell those stories which will make the people willing to lose their skin like they would be willing to change their clothes. Fill the people of our Nation with the spirit and fervour to be like moths so they will sacrifice themselves in the flames of our cause. Our blood has become cold. Tell us stories of Shahidi and become the furnaces that will boil our blood. Give us the passion to make the trampled Punjab and our crushed Nation rise to its feet once again.” Speaking to the Dhadis, Guru Sahib said, “Now is the time that your instruments should call out a challenge. Your notes should stir the Nation. The beat of your dhads should awaken the people and the bells on your bows should make hearts fill with the zeal of sacrifice.” We must hear Guru Sahib’s message again today and rise to the challenge.

  5. lol this guy is a mug he thinks we gonna accept him as a sikh just cos he got singh in his username. This guy with his hindustani gang go on youtube, chatrooms and other forums abusing Sikhs and trying to cause problems between Sikhs and Pakistani muslims by posing as both so that the hate is created for both communities, these hindustani extremists are clever but not clever enough Sikhs are on top of them and we know how to create problems for them too . They think we are stupid but I know what they are up to as I and others monitor their little pathetic hindustani gang and their online tactics. They had even created a sikh-hindu forum where they stated that hindus were Sikhs and they wrote alot of blasphemous statements about Sikhi.

  6. Darbar Sahib maryada has been heavily influenced by Udaasi and Nirmala Semperdais which had tendencies to lean towards Hindu (Sanatan) traditions in which women are looked down as being inferior or not "complete." This is NOT the Sikh tradition. Many historians regard Bebe Nanaki Ji as being the FIRST SIKH since it was her who recognized the Supreme Divinity of Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Ji. So if a woman can the first Sikh, why can not she be sevadar or a Jathedar at our Takhts or Gurdwaras? During Guru Amardas Sahib Ji's time when the Manji and Pirree system existed, out the highly respected 22 Gursikhs that held Manjis - a GurSikh Bibi was one of them : Bibi Sachan Sach. Out the 146 Pirrees held, 35% of them were held by highly devout Sikh Bibis. If Guru Sahib installed Bibis for this highest of sevas, there is no reason they can not do seva at Sri Dabar Sahib.

  7. From another msg board.. When Daas first heard about the appointment of Sumedh Saini as the new DGP of Police in Punjab by Badal, it brought back old memories of what we had to go through because of this dusht. Daas then thought of sharing this personal story with the forum members. I typed it but never felt like posting it. What will it achieve? Forum members will read it and then what. What do we gain by sharing all this? Who is really bothered? 21st century Sikhs are busy fighting among themselves on issues which have no relevance. Then others are happy that Badal is again back in government because he did a lot of development in Punjab. Then there are questions what is the alternatives as Bhai Kulbir Singh put it in another thread who do you vote for. So does typing all this painful experience is worth? Not sure. Daas leaves it to you all to decide that along with building up your jeevan through kamai what stand you need to take on Panthic front. Following is not a made up story. This is a personal experience of Daas’s family and every single word is true. Please note daas has changed the years/locations etc for reasons you all know: It was in early 90’s when the movement of Sikh homeland was at its peak. This was the time either just before or around when dusht Beantaa was chief minister of Punjab and KPS Gill was the DGP. Sumedh Saini was the SSP at that time. This was either Our father had gone to attend Kirtan samagam. One day suddenly we heard our doorbell ringing and as my mother opened the door there were policemen in plain clothes with machine guns and rifles. As far as daas can remember there were 6-7 vehicles full of them. All of them entered the home. Some went upstairs and remaining stayed downstairs. They started ripping apart every single corner of the house looking through the stuff. Two of them grabbed me to interrogate. Their head was interrogating my mother and sister, who was just 15 years old. They were looking for our father. Anyway this went on for nearly 3-4 hours. They picked up contact diaries, photo albums and whatever else they wanted and left. My youngest brother was 7 at the time. This all happened without any legal search warrants or without any valid reason. Even when they left we were completely in dark about why they had come. Next day we got phone call from our Babaji that my father had been picked up by some policemen along with another naujwaan Jatha singh. No one knew where they were taken. Next 7 days were like never ending days of our life when we had no clue where my father was. Then on the 8th day we finally got news that he was released. He travelled back from Chandigarh to home and reached us in the evening. As soon as he entered the home he could barely walk. His body was bruised. Earlier his beard was very long and it used to go beyond the navel point. But when he came back that day it was only few inches. It wasn’t cut but it looked like that hair had been pulled and broken. More than 85% of the beard hair had been removed. After saanjh of fateh he was served langar by our mother. Then we all sat with him surrounding him from all sides. What he told us in next 2-3 hours is something that daas can never forget throughout his life. Whatever is written after this is in his own words… “We were picked up by some plain clothes policemen from Punjab police and thrown in a Maruti Gypsy with black cloth tied to our eyes. Throughout the way they kept abusing us and kicking and hitting us. We don’t know how long it took to reach the interrogation center. When we reached there were no signs of police station of anything like that. It was in a remote place built like an industrial shed. As soon as we saw it we realised it was one of the CIA interrogation centres run by KPS Gill’s force. We were taken in handcuffed. When we reached there we were made to sit on the floor which was ice cold. Then the DSP Sita Ram came. As soon as he came he started slapping us and abusing us. He asked his constables to take of our kakaars and clothes. I kept fighting them as long as I could to stop them from taking of my kakaars. There were around 15 of them, kicking me with boots, slapping me… Then one of them slapped so hard that blood started coming out of my ear and I could not hear anything from that side. Eventually they managed to overpower and ripped all the clothes and took off kakaars as well. Even the kachera was not left on the body. For next 7 days we were like this without clothes. This was done to every singh they brough in to the place. Before starting on further tortures investigations this was their first step to humiliate and break the person by defying all modesty. Once they had taken off everything, they started kicking us and beating us with canes and it went on till we were unconscious. I don’t remember how long I was unconscious but it might have been few hours as by the time I came back to senses the sun was rising and it was next morning. As soon as they found that I was opening my eyes, two of them pulled me by hair and dragged me out to another room. This is where they had atleast 7-8 other singhs tied up with chains and roped to different corners. Some of them were being given electric shocks, others were being put on the pataa (an electric motorised machine which has leather flaps tied to it and it revolves and hits you very hard ripping apart the skin. I was thrown on the floor and two of them holded my hands and two legs. Then they brought a wooden plank and put it on my thighs. Two very heavy policemen stood on both sides and started moving it like a see-saw. During all the time they kept abusing me in filthy language, saying abusive words about Guru Sahib, about amritdharis. For these two days I was not even once asked or told why I was in this place. After having endured all this pain, the next part was electic shocks. They started with ears and then went on to give shock on other parts of the body till I passed out. Every time they moved me from one location to other, they used to drag me by either hairs or beard. We didn’t had any food or water for all these days. Then on fourth day I was told “Chal teri peshi hai saahab de kol” (Come it’s you appearance in-front of the Sahib). I was passed through a number of courtyards and taken to an open area which was paved with rough stone slabs. The scene there was unbearable to watch. They had drums full of human excretion filled with urine and toilet. Singhs were thrown on the floor and the choora will throw the drum full of the dirt on the singh. Then two of them will hold the legs or arms and drag from one side to the other on that rough concrete floor. Amazingly while this was done singhs were still shouting jaikaare and doing naam abhyaas loudly. Others who had not done abhyaas before in life were unable to bear the pain and were screaming in pain. When all of this was done I was thrown on one corner. Then someone came later and put 2-3 buckets of ice cold water on me to remove the dirt. The water was so cold it will give more pain on the fresh wounds. But by that time my body was getting used to this daily torture and I wan’t feeling anything. Then I was taken to the room where the darbar of Sumedh Saini was in progress. My turn came and saini asked me, “Fer akal aayi ke nahin tenu” (So are you back to senses?). I asked him about what? He said “Tu vadda khalistani banya firda hain.” I said when did I said anything about khalistaan. He shouted back with abuses and said “Tu jehde apne kanjraan nu Milan gaya si jail vich”. Then I realised why I was there. Few weeks back Jatha singhs had organised a visit to the jails to supply the singhs arrested with warm clothes and blankets. I was among the singhs who was given this seva. We were denied meeting with any prisoners but as I had to sign the register before entering the prison with Name and Address, they must have used it to track who is trying to look after the singhs in prisons. I told him I just went there as a humble sikh of Guru Sahib. As soon as I said Guru sahib he started shouting abuses and using filthy language about Dashmesh pita. Then told me in the end “Jaake keh daeen apne yaraan nu ki din thode hi han, kale kale nu ethe leaake maaroonga, paani mangan joge vi nahin rehne.” (Go and tell your friends that I will bring them all here one by one and kill them in a way they won’t even ask for water). Then he ordered his men to take me away and do sewa (torture) for few more days before disposing me. The next two days were the repeat of what had happened in last 5 days. On the 7th day I was told that Saini is willing to release me if I can give him the names of kharku singhs. I refused saying that I don’t know any kharkus and I am a central government employee and he will have to release me one day. I don’t know what happened next as he went away. I was taken in a dark room and they tied black cloth on my eyes and covered the face with a rucksack. I was driven out of the place and thrown in a field. Only words I heard after that were “Oye order taan tenu maaran da hoya hai par teri chitti daarhi dekhke pata nahin kyon taras aa gaya menu, jaa bhajj jaa” (Oye order is to kill you but looking at your white beard I feel mercy for you.) I was left in the field in the dark with my hands tied to my back. I somehow managed to drag to a tubewell and stayed there all night without any clothes and next morning I was picked up by the farm owner who helped me get out of there.”

  8. Yup pretty awe inspiring can you imagine this? Just imagine for a moment that the 5ft guru sahib ji has been brutally tortured and martyred and now its your turn as spiritual leader of a new God ordained path and you know your in the cross-airs of the mighty moghul empire and all its forces what do you do? Do you convert to the rulers own faith? Do you change your religion to appease the ruler or do you stand up and fight in the face of impossible odds. Guru Sahib has shown us that we always must fight never bow our heads down to any rulers who harm our kaum and deen because when you fight you will come out victorious, in life or death, you win as you have not compromised your sikh faith. In any situations in your life you may face you can use this sakhi this example of fighting spirit to draw strength from.

  9. I think this thread needs to be closed hsingh is some hindustani fascist or pakistani islamo-fascist virtually every thread he has opened has been tryng to negative and usually pakistani this pakistani that why are sikh girls this why are sikh girls that. He needs to worry about his own buddhist / hindu or muslim community and not make up things which are not true wasting sangats time discussing things already discussed hundred times over now. If he did a forum search he would see how many topics come up and all usually end in closure but he is a non-sikh to me so i will treat him with the contempt he is showing the members on the forum here.

  10. So it's okay for one group to bang on about their own rural caste but once the underdogs start doing it it becomes 'politically and religiously uncomfortable' - you can't see any hypocrisy in that?

  11. OK. I wear a pug and sometimes my ears feel alittle sore but nothing major. Over the past 2 years, after 4 or 5 hours of wearing a pug my ears start to feel very painful (usually the right ear), the pain gets worse when i push against the part of my pug that is covering my ears. Also, the area 2 inches above my ear starts to feel painful - as if something or someone is apply intense pressure against a small area of my skull and my eyes start to feel tired and sore. The pain goes away as soon as I take my pug of - although the whole area is still sore and it hurts when i touch it. Sometimes at work it gets so bad that i go into the changing rooms and redo my pug and that usually helps. Has anyone else had something similar. I know the fault is with the way is tie my pug as it doesn't happen to my dad. this doesn't happen all of the time maybe 40 - 50% of the time but its causing me considerable pain. any idea as to what i could do to stop the pain or what i might be doing wrong?

  13. I have been wondering about this for a long time. Do we have freewill in our lives or are we ruled by destiny? Is every thing pre-planned by HIM or do we have the power to control and direct our lives? What does Adi Granth say about it? Please do reply. Thanks

  14. I have always wondered why did ancient chinese people kept long hair especially the warriors they seem to have topknot guthi's as its interesting how they kept their hair uncut similar to how our Khalsa's are ment to. "And this is an answer I found thought id share In Chinese traditional society, people believe hair is part of the body and is bestowed from their parents. To show the reverence and gratitude of the birth given by whom, ancient Chinese normally keep their body from unnecessary harm and don't cut hair. So even men have long hair in the past, it's the fashion of Qin Dynasty to twist hair at back of head, then cover and fasten it by using headpiece such as a bandanna. That's the reason why the warriors seem to have knots in their hair."

  15. Guys, both side opinions are right and pretty much align with Gurmat (saint-sipahi ideology)...so stop belittling each other. One side beliefs saving bhai sahib ji from inhumane form of capital punishment- hanging someone until person chokes to death. Anyway on broader context, its about saving bhai sahib ji - an human being not on a argument that make sikhs look like wussies but on a argument, its about saving an human life on death row, fits right in Saint context of Sikhi. Second side believes let bhai sahib ji attain shaheedi as he wished for it, nothing wrong with that opinion either, fits right in Sipahi context of Sikhi. Thats why sangat seems divided which they shouldn't, diversity does not equal to division automatically, diversity is beauty of sikhi..everyone should be proud. If panth can have bhramgyani shaheed sahibzadas attaining shaheedi while fighting enemy in battle field, and have bhramgyani bhai kahniya ji treating wounds of same enemies- on practical level, then why can't sikhs look at things from different googles (saint goggles) and (sipahi goggles). At the end it all boils down to - if asked bhai sahib that if he prefers shahedi in battle ground than having shaheedi hanged. I am sure he would without any hesitation say- in battle ground. So while both opinion of sangat are right and fully aligned with sant and sipahi context of sikhi. We should be all (for shaheedi or for saving human life), sign the petition to saving him from hanged until death.

  22. Can't 100% gaurantee this but I have read articles. Basically after partition many Sikhs found themselves to be the only Sikh family around for kilometers. So after peace pervailed the local muslims tried to convert the 'kafirs'. Many were forced to convert or lose the whole families lives. This is what I heard first hand from a family member who went on yatra to Pakistan. A sikh family in Nanakana Sahib broke all ties with his sisters family as they had converted to Islam decades ago.
