  1. I know how you mean more than you could ever know. You're not alone with these thoughts. I divert my attention from these so-called Sikhs to the one's of the past. I read of their morals, their bravery, their wisdom, knowledge, their never-say-die attitude.... These individuals and events aren't from mythological eras lost in the annals of time and legend but relatively (in the big scheme of things) recent history that we can just about still touch with our fingertips and experience ourselves if we wish to. Keep your own house in order. That's what I'm attempting to do. Then let the rest happen as it will.

  4. I think its fantastic that we have 2 Sikh faith tv channels based in the UK that are seen worldwide its just sad that they have to struggle financially in such a wealthy country. The main reason for me is choice as one minute I can be watching gurbani keertan from Italy then the next I swap channels to watch a live sikhi talk show from Derby. I pray waheguru shows me the day that there is an entire network of Sikh faith channels that are based in every country where there are large Sikh communities and are broadcasting in Punjabi/English and especially the local language. I know times are hard and money is tight and it would make sense to have one channel that has no money worries but then you are reliant on the viewer to wait until a programme comes on which they understand and don't switch over to something else ie grandad won't watch yoga in English and young kid won't watch Punjabi discussion on desi politics. Even with 2 channels I was still frustrated as Sikh Channel was flying around the world Live at such a speed today from India to Derby to Wolverhampton that there was not enough time to view each sufficiently for me as soon as I started enjoying the programme it changed to something else - talk about armchair airmiles!

  5. Funnily enough I think those Sikhs who do wish to represent the Sikh population for P.R. purposes in terms of clarifying Sikh issues to the media, etc., are probably scared off by the jathebandis and associated politics. Not everyone has the stomach to withstand slander, especially from the very people who you wish to help! I suppose a lot of good Sikhs who aren't affiliated to one group or the other have been dissuaded from following this kind of path because they simply don't want the hassle.

  6. ... rather than several Gurdwaray in a Pind or here in the West? As far as I know even Gurdwara are only meant to be named "Local Area" Gurdwara rather than after any individual (no matter how supreme the individual was ... if I can even use that word) as Guru Sahib reminded us never to deflect from rememberance of God first and foremost. Can the youth in the West force such a change within 5 years? How can we do it? By perhaps flooding local memberships to force Gurdwaray to merge through weight of Sangat opinion? SGPC must have said something about this (or have they shockingly remained silent?) A joint Nagar Kirtan but memberships that restrict a person from being a member (on the basis of both parents not being such & such) sickens me. Without unity on such a basic principle, the crooked disunity+discrimination managements are trying to kill the Panth from within far worse than what Indira did in 1984 or even the 300,000 Sikhs the Punjabi's from Nankana Sahib side killed in 1947. The empty Gurdwara sites would be used for the community for sports/elderly/TEFL etc and/or sold to push charitable aims like how Khalsa Aid, Sukrit Trust etc to name but two are doing their best to help Sikh and non-Sikhs alike where need is greatest

  8. You will find bad and good everywhere, that does not mean we judge them. Even if some of them are proud they may have a good heart. We are all imperfect and we are aiming to become perfect ie possess compassionate, loving, caring, sweet speech etc through Naam and Gurbani. God is the Inner-knower of all hearts; God dwells in every place. So who should we call evil? Behold the Word of the Shabad, and lovingly dwell upon it. He calls others bad and good, as long as he is in duality. The Gurmukh understands the One and Only Lord; He is absorbed in the One Lord. ||7|| We should just focus on ourselves and to make ourselves pure. We could only judge another if we think we are perfect. We should always assume we ourselves are imperfect with faults and that we need to make ourselves virtuous. Here, this is how we should view ourselves - ਬਾਬਾ ਮੈ ਕੁਚੀਲੁ ਕਾਚਉ ਮਤਿਹੀਨ ॥ O Baba, I am filthy, shallow and totally without understanding. Without the Naam, no one is anything; the Perfect Guru has made my intellect perfect. I am full of faults, and I have no virtue at all. Without virtues, how can I go home? Through the Word of the Shabad, intuitive peace wells up; without good destiny, the wealth is not obtained. Those whose minds are not filled with the Naam are bound and gagged, and suffer in pain. ||2|| In the above shabad you will notice it says without good fortune we will not be able to obtain the richness and wealth of Naam. Thus, we will not obtain peace in our mind and life. Therefore, we have to patiently and continuously try hard with a daily practice of Naam and Gurbani at Amritvela (2am-6am), in the evening and try to remember Vaheguru all day. At one point the peace will come and so will the experience of Naam.

  10. LOL - what an <banned word filter activated>!!!! I totally loathe this notion that all religions are equal...what a load of BS. If all religions are equal then we must accept that the Prophets of all religions are equal. Just study the life of Prophet Muhammed and compare it with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee Maharaaj. How many concubines (sex slaves) did Prohet Muhammed have (all war booties)? How old was Prophet Muhammed when he married his last wife a 6yr old girl called Aiysha...he was 45yrs old. How old was he when he consummated (had sex) his marriage with his child bride Aiysha...she was only 9yrs old (not even started puberty) & he was 48yrs old. Why did he convince his step-son to divorce his wife...because Prophet Muhammed himself wanted to marry the wife of his own step-son. i mean the list is just endless... And then you have some Sikhs saying ALL religions are equal and by default they're saying that Prophet Muhammed is on par/on the same level as Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee Maharaaj...seriously?!?

  11. When you are liberated, you lift the illusion of Maya (the material world). You become detached. You don't desire anything, you don't fear anything or anyone. You see life as a game to be played. Things that used to bother you become insignificant. They don't matter. You don't need to prove yourself to anyone. You don't need validation from anyone. We can test the effects of Maya scientifically. Ask two people to drink from the same cup of tea. One person will say it is sweet. The other person will say it is bitter. Who is right? You can't prove either of their statements to be true, because their observations are relative. Truth cannot be relative. By definition, truth is universal. God is truth. Attachment to material things will take you farther from the truth and therefore farther from God. "Aadh sach, jugadh sach, hai bhee sach. Nanak hosee bhee sach" - He was true in the beginning, true through the ages, He is true now. Nanak, He will always be true. An analogy I can draw is the process of getting older and maturing. Think back to when you were a child. Remember all the things that used to bother you. The problems that you thought you had, now seem trivial. I can't give you a checklist to see if you are jeevan mukht. When you know, you just know. Or maybe you never realize it. I don't know. This is just my 2 cents. I would say always look for the truth yourself. Don't believe the ramblings of a fool you meet on the internet. I'm just trying to figure it out like everyone else.

  12. what country?? economics and law are probably better subjects to study for a politician. best thing to do is volunteer in your community get more known to the people, start up organisations charities etc sikh and non sikh... so when your ready you will already have a base of 100s or 1,000s of supporters to help you.. help out at the Gurdwara and get to know the sangat, also the other religious places of worship Also help out at the party you choose, in elections and attend their conferences etc...ulitimatley they will decide if you run for them I dont think work experience and placement matter as much as being well known and having support from the community, people that study politics and get a placement in some politicians office normally end up working there forever anyway if your in UK i would say Conservative Canada NDP or maybe Conservative US Democratic India .... Make your own party

  13. Do you know what it is to be jeven mukth, what would the signs be? As for the question Gurbani says yes you can be Jevan Mukt, gurbani calls it living Dead. jeevath marai marai fun jeevai thaa mokhanthar paaeae | But if he remains dead while yet alive, then by so dying, he truly lives; thus, he attains liberation.

  14. I feel a lot of blood was shed for Khalistan, a lot of mothers lost their sons and their pain is something we cannot comprehend. So to sit thousands of miles away and advocate any type of violent struggle is completely irresponsible. Unless you are directly on the front lines, we have no right to send our Punjabi brothers into a blood bath. Having said that, independance should always remain in our heart, and seen as an ultimate goal. However, it is probably number 100 on the list of things that should be accomplished first. Lets start with problems we can realistically solve right now, such as drug abuse, respect for our unborn sisters, fake baba's and deras, corruption, education, employment, infrastructure etc. Many of these issues are directly related to the current Punjab gov't, and have little to do with the central gov't. Having a few family members who are proud sikhs and employed by the Punjab police, I have had several conversations in which a lot of these problems have been explained to me. And issues such as drug abuse and its elimination is directly related to the Punjab sarkar turning a blind eye. Same can be said for the 9000 fake dera's across punjab. Lets focus on getting our own house in order first, which would take years on its own. A great start would be competent leadership and ridding Punjab of the bloodsucker Badal.

  15. Jeevan mukhti is liberation of the soul from the circle of birth and death. It is achieved by making your mind attuned to the naam. Sant is just a title conferred upon someone. Adding Sant in front of your name does not make you a jeevan mukht. Although, Sants probably spend more time than the average person, meditating on naam. Becoming jeevan mukht is not a common thing. If someone was jeevan mukht, I doubt they would declare it. I don't know if I've ever met one, to be honest. I'm still trying to get there myself.

  17. Inaccurate analysis regarding the Sikh Council. The are many areas that the Sikh Council addresses that the Federation doesnt take a lead role in and others where the Federation takes the leading role and the Sikh Council takes a back seat. Campaigning for an independent Sikh homeland and tackling human rights abuses are the niche and forte of the Federation whereas Sikh Council is a collective of jathebandian and communities representing the broad cross section of the Sikh community so that collective campaigning and collective decision making can take place regarding issues that affect all Sikhs, regardless of political affiliation or jathebandi, ie wearing of kirpans in schools. Just because the Sikh federation is a highly active and vocal organisation that organises its own campaigns does not mean that the Sikh council is puppet of the Federation by any stretch. This is a very inaccurate and somewhat mischievous statement to make. If you need clarification for this then go and ask the head representatives of AKJ, Ramgharia community, Bhatra community and Ravidassia community to see if they are fully involved and represented in the Sikh Council or not. Do you think that these same groups would whole-heartedly support an openly Khalistani organisation such as the Federation? I think not. The Sikh Council and Federation work together and alongside each other, and on pivotal issues, the Federation forms one of the associated member jathebandia that makes up the Sikh Council, ie part of the UK Sikh panth. I hope that is clear.

  18. They are loads of intelligent articulate sikhs, professionals who excel in their own fields whether its law, international law, medicine, history politics, business, finance etc. They understand the art of communication and how to play the media game and win people. But you will see lots of these type of people have either tried and failed or have known close friends who have fallen victim. Who wants to face the slander and the internal politics. Look at what happended at those emergency meetings that took place in Southall and France a couple of weeks ago. They start of with good intentions and there are some knowedgebale people there. But then you get our khalistani leaders who cant wait to have a dig at some other jathebandi and then it disintegrates into chaos. Is this all we have learnt in the last 27 yrs. You are 100% right the jathebandia are the modern day dera's who have got big gurdwara's behind them and can fill a couple of coaches to take to a rally. But once we are there we fail to convey our message because the leaders we put in front of the cameras dont have a clue. A prime example is the Sikh Council UK which was started with good intentions as a supreme body to be the voice of the UK sikhs. Unfortunately it has just become another voice for the Sikh Federation. An example of the calibre of people we need are the likes of Dr Gurnam Singh, Harinder Singh (SIKHRI), Dr Sukhpreet Singh Udhoke who are young, knowledgeble and can debate a point in a calm constructive manner. (Before I get the haters let me clarify I gave those names as examples as everyone is familar with them, I may not agree with all their beliefs that was not the point of using their names). Please dont twist this topic into a anti-SIKHRI or anti-Udhoke debate.

  19. along with shastar vidya and the dasam granth, raag vidya (science of music) was banned by the british, as this was what gave sikhs the warrior power, and if removed, the sikhs would forget their identity and source of power. Also this is why there is no dasam granth inside Golden Temple, as they were removed, yet inside Non-Panjab Gurdwara Takhts (Patna Sahib -Bihar and Hazoor Sahib-Nanded) There is dasam granth, as the british never bothered with sikhs there. now if you look at kirtan done at the gurdwara, have u seen raagis playing the following instruments, Saranda? Taus? Dilruba? NO, thats because the british banned them, and force fed us that incredibly boring instrument, vajaa (harmonium), which is a french instrument, not hindustani. Saranda was an instrument invented by guru arjan dev ji, dilruba/taus was invented by guru gobind singh, and now what do we have to show for their inventions, nothing! Raag Vidya was practiced especialy by Khalsa sikhs and sufis, now that Sufis have gon to pakistan, we have lost the knowledge and authenticity of the technique. Just like how we have lost genuine raag vidya, we have lost SHASTAR VIDYA, and now theres controversy over dasam granth. Had the british never meddled, then there wud b no conspiracies and doubts about whats original, genuine etc. Luckily there are some groups/ppl who are trying to bring back raag vidya traditional instruments - watch the first two videos especially, lovly jubbly! especially watch the Rabab/Saranda video, at 4:02 listen to wat Professor Surinder Singh Says
